Permission granted by Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News Hartington Herald is no longer in print. ====================================================================== Hartington Herald, 9/24/1931 Bride of Month dies Suddenly Mrs. Martin Nelson, 35, Passes away Wednesday, Funeral held Monday The sudden death of Mrs. Martin Nelson, a bride of a month, which occurred Wednesday evening was a stunning blow to relatives and friends of the couple. Mrs. Nelson had been ill over a week with peritonitis which was followed by pneumonia. Charlotte Eggers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Eggers, was born at Dennison, Iowa, June 10, born at Dennison, IA, June 10, 1896. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her parents moved to Monticello, Iowa where she was reared for eight years. They moved to Crofton where she attended the Crofton schools and lived until her marriage with Arthur Hoshaw, at the age of 23 years. The family moved to Yankton, SD in October, 1925 Mr. Hoshaw was killed in an auto accident. After her husband’s death, Mrs. Hoshaw and children, Edna and Duane returned to the Eggers home at Crofton. On August 18, Mrs. Hoshaw was married to Martin Nelson at the Wynot Lutheran Church. They established their home in Hartington and were very happy in their plans for the future. On September 9, Mrs. Nelson was taken ill with peritonitis. Her condition was serious from the beginning and everything was done to save her life, but it was of no avail and the end came Wednesday. Mrs. Nelson leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Martin Nelson, her two children, Edna and Duane, her mother, Mrs. Minnie Eggers, of Crofton, her twin sister Mrs. Lillie Renn, Crofton; and sisters, Mrs. Henry Bohlken and Mrs. Andrew Lindberg, Prescott, Wis., Mrs. Isaac Schneider, Monticello, IA., Mrs. Ernest Sawatzke of Crofton and brothers Henry, Will, and Ernest Eggers of Prescott, Wis., Fred of Crofton, Chris Eggers of Vetal, SD and John and Louis of Monticello, Iowa. Her father preceded her in death two years ago. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Nelson home and 2 0’clock from the Trinity Lutheran Church at Hartington with the pastor, rev. H.R. Gregerson, officiating. Interment was made in the Crofton cemetery. The pallbearers were N.J. Olsen, O.N. Olsen, Raymond Countryman, Wm. Sawatzke, Ray Renn, and Ernest Sawatzke.
