Olsen, 74, Hartington, died Sept. 1, 2007, at his residence. Memorial Services are being planned at a later date. Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, is in charge of arrangements. Frank LaVaughn Olsen was born March 15, 1933, in Hartington, to William and Alice (Strathman) Olsen. He grew up in the Hartington area and attended grade school at Paragon. He graduated from Hartington High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge from the Navy he attended college in California and then moved home after a year. Frank began farming with his father and continued until around 1969. He then worked as a truck mechanic in Yankton, S.D., for 7-8 years. Frank worked for Thieszen Construction, Norfolk, for a couple years, then began working for Gill Construction, Jackson, until he retired in 2002. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, and the Hartington VFW Post #5283. He bowled for the VFW team many years ago. Frank is survived by his wife, Joan, Hartington; two daughters and spouses, Suzanne and Brian Lane, Renton, Wash., and Vicky and Todd Lovell, Fairbanks, Alaska; one son, Steven Olsen, Hartington; two grandchildren, Rane and Kendall Lovell, Fairbanks, Alaska; and one brother, LeRoy Olsen, Sioux City, Iowa.
