Korth ====================================================================== WILLIAM SOOST Funeral services were held at the Home for Funerals in Norfolk on Sunday for William Soost, 84, of Norfolk, former Magnet resident, who succumbed Wednesday August 2 in a Norfolk hospital. He had been hospitalized since July 9th, when he suffered a hip fracture. William Soost was born in Westphalia, Germany August 9, 1866 and when 16 years of age he came with his parents to Davenport, IA. A few years later he was married there to Adella Leuenhagen on December 1, 1888. In 1895 they moved to a farm two miles northeast of Magnet, where they resided until 1902, when they moved to Magnet. Mr. Soost served on the school board and on the first town board of Magnet. He was a commissioner of the Cedar County for six years, state senator for two years and he had an interest in the Magnet State bank before retiring and moving to Norfolk in 1920. Mr. and Mrs. Soost celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary last December 1st. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. L.F. Beckenhauer of Norfolk and Mrs. Roy Stober of Randolph; three sons Fred of Magnet, Ed of Bloomfield, Henry of Washougal, Wash.; brother Henry of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
