Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS Jan. 24, 1924 Pioneer of the County Buried at Old Home William Sparks who died in Yankton, buried at Aten Last Sunday William Sparks, who for many years was a resident of Cedar county, but who lately has been living at Yankton, passed away at his home in Yankton on Wednesday morning of last week and was buried last Sunday afternoon at his old home of Aten in Cedar county. Mr. Sparks was born in Indiana in 1850 being 73 years old at the time of his death. While but a year old, he moved with his parents to Bodne, Iowa, living there until 1885, when he came to Cedar County. Since that time he has lived either in Cedar county or across the river. He was first married in 1871 to Frances Holbrook, and four children survive that union; they being Albert C. and Andrew Sparks of Yankton, and Rose and Chester Sparks of Walthill, NE. Late ‘90’s he married Annie Harvie; their children, Mabel Kendell, Emmanual, CA., Clifford and Clara of Yankton, sisters Mrs. George Heitz, Aten, Mrs. C.H. Barnes, Ogden, IA., brother John, Burwell, NE., Al, Vining, Okla. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at Aten Congregational Church with Rev. Evans, Crofton Congregation Church in charge.
