Stratman passed away at home there last Wednesday Death came early Wednesday morning to Mrs. Helen D. Stratman, 72, one of the real pioneers of northern Cedar county, at her home in St. Helena, following a long illness. Born at St. Martin’s a suburb of Milwaukee, Wis., Sept 8, 1857 she accompanied her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Huenekins, thrifty Holland emigrants flood on the Missouri. Taking up their new home on the prairie near what is now Menominee, built the first house in that vicinity, the structure later becoming the parish rectory when a small church was established. In spite of the pioneer surroundings their daughter has been educated in music, and the following year went to the the thriving county seat town of St. Helena in response to the demand for her services as a musical instructor. Then she met John Stratman with whom she was united in marriage on May 22, 1882. The young couple starting housekeeping in St. Helena where they were active in the community life. Mr. Startman died April 29, 1920. Mrs. Stratman is survived by three sons, Ivo F. and Edgar J. both of St. Helena and Arthur H. of Koaka, SD., and two daughters Miss Lora Stratman and Lucina, who is now a Sister Maurlis at at St. Rose Convent, LaCrosse, Wisc., and by two brothers, Henry Huennekins, Crofton and Dr. J H Huenekins of Milwaukee, Wis, and one sister Mrs. Fred Gobel of Crofton. The funeral will be held at 9:30 a M on Friday morning from the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Helena, Rev. C. Stratman conducting the service. Burial will be in the St. Helena Cemetery.
