Permission granted by ====================================================================== Cedar County News, 3/4/1954 Pioneer Lady Dies Thursday Mrs. Lena Tvedt, 90, is Buried at Paragon Maskell- Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church here Monday afternoon for Mrs. Lena Amalie Tvedt, one of Cedar county’s oldest residents, who died February 25 at her home in Maskell. Rev. C M Grikndland and Rev. O L Levorson of Hartington officiated at the last rites and burial was Paragon cemetery east of Hartington under the direction of Smith funeral Home. Pallbearers were Glen, Darrell, Raymond, Carleton, Harry and Areden Nelson. Mrs. Tvedt is survived by two daughters, H. Louise of Maskell and Mrs. L.S. Nelson of Mineapolis; one son Carl W. Tvedt of San Fernando, Calif., six half brothers, Elmer and Alfred Nelson of Maskell, Minor Nelson of Newcastle, Ole G. Nelson of Wayne, Albert Nelson of Long Beach, Calif., and Melvin Nelson of Newcastle, and two half sisters, Mrs. Charles Mallory of Sioux City, and Mrs. Sam Packwood of Newcastle. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus N Graverholt, Lena Amalie was born September 8, 1863, at Setskog, Holand Hemnes, Norway. After the death of her mother she came to the United States with her father in 1869. The family settled near Red Wing, Minn., and later in Florence, near Omaha. In 1870 her father obtained a homestead south of Maskell. On February 6, 1879, she was married to Rev. Nels G Tvedt of Gayville, SD. They lived there about a half a year and then moved to the Paragon community east of Hartington. In 1915 the family moved to Maskell. Rev. Tvedt died in 1921. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Norway and confirmed in Lime Creek Evangilical Lutheran Church south of Maskell. The Ladies Aid of Maskell gave her the first life membership in the Women’s Missionary Federation. Relatives and Friends from a distance who attended the funeral were Carl Tvedt of San Fernando, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. L S Nelson of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Ole G Nelson of Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Erickson and daughters of Randolph, Mr. and Mrs. William Heier of Winside, Mrs. Effie Booth of Yankton, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith of Wakonda, SD., Roy Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Nelson and Gabriel Nelson of Vermillion, Mr. and Mrs. Arden Nelson of Ponca, and Carl and Gladys Nelson of Tulare, SD.
