1-25-1907  – St. James Items
St. James Hotel for sale, cheap if taken at once. Inquire, Mrs. Clara Fracks.


2-28-1907
A large crowd of Hartington people attended the Wynot Lot Sale yesterday. 


5-29-1907  - St. James Items
Wynot has taken quite a boom lately, several new buildings are the course of construction. 

Joe Koch has sold out his business in Murdo, SD and is thinking of locating in Wynot. Hoe 
has a level head and an eye for business.


6-29-1907 – St. James Items
Wynot is growing like weeds, yes weeds and all!

Mr. Cable Will give a dance at his hotel next Monday night. Come and have a good time.


7-4-1907
The dance at Cable house in Wynot Monday night was the best had in the city. There was a good 
crowd in attendance and everyone had a good time. Thanks Cable and come again. 

8-1-1907
Some of the railroad contractors have finished their work her and are moved to other fields.  
The masons have been laying brick on the Konegi State Building in Wynot. 


8-8-1907 – St. James Items
Everybody gets busy over in Wynot these days. George Lammers is moving some store building to 
Wynot this week.


8-15-1907 – St. James Items
Alex Schulte has moved his drug store to Wynot and will remodel soon and have it ready for business.


9-19-1907 - St. James Items
The Sioux City Fair and Schutzenfest has passed, next comes the Jubilee for Wynot.


9-26-1907 – St. James Items
The telegraph lines are extending into Wynot.


10-3-1907 – St. James Items
The dance at Wynot on Friday night was well attended and fine time was had by all present. Oyster 
supper at Cable house. 


3-28-1907 
The New town of Wynot begin to grow. 

St. James is on the boom, standing room only. 

Dave Anderson of Newcastle, was visiting friends at the St. James hotel. He says Wynot is a fine fish pond. 
The river has resumed  its normal condition after four weeks of flood and the settlers are going back to 
their homes again. 


9-29-1907 
We are happy to announce that a railroad to St.James is a reality. That the people of this community have at 
last realized their long looked for expectations. The track was laid  into Wynot Wednesday and the road will 
be completed and regular trains running in a short time.

That Whistle sounds good to me.

For round trip tickets call at Sweet’s lumber office and buy a bill of lumber for that house.


Fall 1907
Sale of lots at Wynot
New town to be started on the Omaha Extension

The town lot sale held at the new town of Wynot in the northeastern part of Cedar county Wednesday was well 
attended and there was quite a demand for business and residence lots in the new town. About thirty business 
lots were sold ranging form $.00 for the choice lots of $75.  Residence lots for  from $40 to $60. the Chicago, 
St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad will be extended from Newcastle to St. James or rather Wynot, which is 
the name of the new town this summer and it expected  for the new town will be operation before the first of 
next year. The lot sale for the new town of Maskell near the west line of Dixon County, was held Thursday and 
while the demand for the lots was not as great as at Wynot, there were quite a number sold at fancy prices. 


2-14-1907
Mr. Chamberlain who recently moved from here to Irene SD has decided to come back to Nebraska. He has invested at 
Wynot and will open a blacksmith shop in the new town. Mrs. Chamberlain is visiting in the Perry Home at present. 


10-31-1907 
The first passenger train went out from Wynot Monday morning.  
F. Asbre shipped out one load of hogs and cattle from Wynot on Tuesday.
The Old Happy Corner building pulled out of town for Wynot Monday. Don’t know what kind of a corner it will find there.


10-10-1907
There is a large force of railroad men working in Wynot this week, building the depot and section house laying side 
track, ect.  

Art Whirry, the house mover from Canada, had Jeff Brewer’s house on wheels Weds. Morning ready to start for Wynot. 

Newell Brothers are moving their implement stock to Wynot. 


11-12-1907
We stated in our last week scrap book that John Goodwin was working for Wynot dairy line. Now we are ready to take 
water on that proposition. It’s the Bell line for we saw the bell strapped to the hind axle of his dray.

The Millie and Sheffer hardware stock will soon be moved to Wynot

Contractor Nelson and Stiles are pursuing their work on the brick building in Wynot this fine weather.


11-12-1907
Everybody is busy in Wynot these days pushing the construction of their buildings to completion. Wynot is a very wet town 
now with two saloons running at full blast on one side and an artisian well through the center. 


11-7-1907 
The Cook Meat Market took a slide over to the new town last week. What next, Mr. Wherry?
All there is left on our once famous “Happy Corner” is the corner. 






WYNOT TRIBUNE

12-05-1907 
The Cable house of Wynot has changed hands this week. A gentleman from Sioux City will have charge. 

There will be a newspaper started in Wynot in a few days. The machinery is  all in  and will soon be in place. 


12-12-1907
the first issue of the Wynot Tribune was just laid on our des, and is a bright and newsy sheet, which bespeaks a prosperous 
future for its publisher, H.a. McCormick.

T.N. Jones is building a large flour and feed store in Wynot.


12-27-1907
The dance at Woodman Hall last Friday evening was well attended and a pleasant time is reported. 

Manager Ed Klopping expects to have his new telephone exchange installed and in operation by the 15th of January.

H.C. Kirkpatrick and family left Tuesday for their new home at Wynot. They have a new house ready to move into and think they 
will enjoy living in the new town which bids fair to be a very pretty place. They take with them the best wishes of many Emerson 
friends. (Emerson enterprise)

J.S. Emerson has a large force of men at work packing and moving his immense stock of merchandise from St. James to his fine new 
store building in Wynot. IT will take today and tomorrow and probably longer to complete the work and until such time as he is 
straightened in his new quarter he will not make city delivery of goods in Wynot and St. James. The St. James post office will 
remain at the old stand with Mr. C.C. Newell in charge. 

Ed Klopping has let the contract to J.L. Grantham for furnishing and putting in the Wynot line of the Ames Creek Telephone company. 

At a meeting of the St. James Telephone company last Monday evening it was decided to turn the management of the company over to 
Elmer Klopping providing he has his local exchange in operation by January 15.
