Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS – 10-26-1916 Landmark Is Burned One of the oldest buildings in St. Helena Destroyed A large barn said by the old settlers to be one of the oldest buildings in St. Helena was destroyed by fire about noon Monday. The building was owned by Herman Bruening. A valuable two-year horse belonging to his son Adolph was lost in the fire. The building was one of the landmarks of the pioneer days of the former county seat, and is said to have been one of the very first buildings erected in those days of promise for the little city. It is said that the fire originated from boys playing with matches.
