Julius Kramer had an exciting encounter with a big grey wolf last Sunday afternoon when the animal turned and attacked him after he had discharged his last shell in it. With its mouth wide open and making savage efforts to fasten its gleaming fangs into his body the wolf dashed toward him. Julius turned his empty gun into a club and struck the wolf a powerful blow on the head, killing it instantly, at the same time breaking the gun. The encounter marked the dispatch of the first three wolves killed during a wolf–hunt arranged by Leonard Koch and Ed Fischer which covered the territory between the hill road and the bottom road between Wynot and Hartington. Later Henry Klug shot another and finally Michael Bonertz brot down the largest of the three, a big yellow fellow. The roundup took place near the big flag pole in Koch’s pasture and Leonard earned the title of “Colonel” by the capable manner in which he auctioned off the pelts. All three bot by Wynot parties. *LAST PARAGRAPH OF ARTICLE NOT LEGIBLE.
