This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS FEB 1, 1923 MASKELL STATE BANK CLOSES LAST MONDAY “FROZEN” LOANS ARE SAID TO HAVE CAUSED THE TROUBLE FORCING IT TO CLOSE "Frozen” loans and former affliations with the Newcastle bank which went under some time ago caused the Maskell State Bank to close its doors last Monday morning, State Bank Examiner P.L. Zuelow taking the steps necessary for that action. Such action has been anticipated for some time by men familiar with banking affairs, as the failed Newcastle bank, and the Maskell bank were closely allied. A number of poorly secured loans were held by Maskell Bank and were largely responsible for its failure. The deposits of the bank are said to have totalled $200,000 and it was capitalized at $20,000. Officers of the Maskell bank are A.H. Maskell, president, J.P. Whitemore, vice president, T.H. Elliott, cashier and O.N. Lukken, assistant cashier.
