Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS – August 13, 1925 Potatoe Thieves Run Down Owners Frank Kuchta, of near Crofton Knows Who was Stealing his Tubers Made desperate by fear of capture, potatoe thieves ran down Frank Kuchta widely known farmer near Crofton late Sunday night when he caught them in the act of stealing his tubers, and crushed him under their car an an effort to escape detection. Mr. Kuchta was knocked down by the machine which passed over his body, crushing his ankle, fracturing a collar bone and inflicting painful bruises on his body. But Mr. Kuchta says that his suspicions as to identity of the thieves were confirmed and he is planning to make the act most expensive for them as soon as he can give the subject attention. Mr. Kuchta has been missing potatoes from his field for some time and finally lay in wait Sunday evening for the thieves. They finally approached and loaded up their car which had been identified by Mr. Kuchta who stood out in front of it in an effort to save his crop. The thieves are now in line for punishment for violation of several laws, one of which is leaving an injued person without any aid whatever. Mr. Kuchta’s family soon came to his assistance but surgical aid was necessary because of his seriousness of his injuries.
