AND MRS. JOE SCHMIDT HONORED BY CHILDREN SUNDAY AFTERNOON Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schmidt of Menominee were guests Sunday when their children gave them a party in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. The afternoon was spent in playing cards, horseshoe games and a ballgame among the grandchildren. At 6:oo o’clock, a three course dinner was served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Potts and family, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Witte and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vornhagen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hoesing and family, Lou Hoesing, and Frank Shoelenberger. The celebration took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt. Before her marriage, Mrs. Schmidt was Miss Annie Spors. The were married in West Profsen, Germany and after two years there, came to America, coming directly to St. Helena, where they worked for pioneer families before beginning farming for themselves. Shortly after they had rented a farm and seem well started in the business so that their dreams of years was to come true, fire destroyed everything on the place. They then went on to Menominee, where they homesteaded the farm which they now live with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Schmidt. Success came to them on their homestead, which they improved and which they converted into one of the best paying farms in northern Cedar County. While on this homestead, Mr and Mrs. Martin Schmidt at St. Helena helped build the Menominee parish of which they still belong. Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt have eight children. They are Martin of Crofton, Mrs. Mike Lichty of Wessington, SD., Mrs. Henry Vornhagen of Fordyce, Will of St. Helena, Mrs. Peter Witte of Menominee, Theodore of the old home place, Mrs. Barney Kane of Des Moines, and Mrs. Frank Potts of Fordyce. Mr. Schmidt is 84 years old, he is fond of outdoor games and exercises. Mrs. Schmidt who is about the same number of years, helps keep a big garden neat and cooks three meals a day.
