HONORED AT PARTY ON 76TH BIRTHDAY MRS. JOHN HAARHUES OF HARTINGTON OBSERVES EVENT FRIDAY "One's never to old to enjoy a birthday party" is the opinion of Mrs. John Haarhues of near Hartington who observed her 76th birthday last Friday and was the honored guest at a party given by her daughter Mrs. C. Hoefer and her granddaughter, Mrs. Ray Jordan. In good health, Mrs. Haarhues enjoyed every moment of the evening which was spent in visiting and playing cards and concluded with the serving of refreshments. Very much alive to the pleasantries of life she enjoyed the gifts she received and was naively delighted to be remembered with them. During the past two years celebrations have been coming thick and fast for the Haarhues family. On September 15, 1929 the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, marking 50 years of a happy married life, 35 of which have been spent in Cedar County. Before the Haarhues moved to their home "East Lawn" in Hartington 10 years ago they lived on what is now the H. Anderson farm 14 miles from Hartington. Their three-acre residence in town blooms brightly with flowers and is a model of neatness of homeowners. Mrs. Haarhues was born in Germany and came to America in April 1879, with Mr. Haarhues. the couple were married that fall in the little country church near Scribner, coming to Cedar County 16 years later. Guests at the birthday party were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moeller and family, Donald Paulson of Des Moines, Fred Hoefer and Thomas Peterson of Hartington.
