A number of friends called at the Peck home during the day. Mr. Peck, who has been quite ill, is able to be up a short time every day and it was on this account that no large celebration was made of the event. Julia Wohlman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Wohlman was born April 18, 1886 in Milwaukee Wis. When she was a young woman of 17 years, she came with her parents and brothers and sisters to Nebraska, traveling by team and wagon. The tiring trip took the family three weeks before they landed at their destination of St. James, which was in the year 1872. They first made their home on the farm of friends. Mr. Wohlman now resides. When the Wohlmans arrived in this country, the land was all prairie. Mr. Peck was born in NY state on Feb. 6, 1847 and will be 84 years of age next month. The Peck family came to Nebraska in 1870, also traveling with a team and wagon. They first settled on a farm northeast of Coleridge. On January 10, 1881, Julia Wohlman was married to Nelson Peck at St. James. The couple then made their home in Coleridge vicinity farming various pieces of land until the purchase of a farm in that locality. They resided on the farm for about five or six years and about 21 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Peck moved to Coleridge where they have since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Peck have experienced all the hardships that the early pioneers endured losing their crop to the grasshoppers in 1876. Mrs. Peck, who is 74 years old, is very active and does all her housework alone. She has been a resident of this county for 59 years. Mr. and Mrs. Peck have eight children: Mrs. Ella Jones of Geddes SD, Fred Peck, Herman Peck who is at home, Truman Peck of geddes SD, Eugene Peck of Coleridge, Henry Peck who is farming the home place, Mrs. Minnie McMann, Mrs. Frank Specht.
