Born at McGregor, Iowa, Mrs. Bruening accompanied her parents and four brothers to St. Helena where she has made her home ever since. She was 11 years old at the time and well remembers the trip with a 4 team of oxen. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Schrempp. She was married in 1857 to Herman Bruening who operated a blacksmith shop in St. Helena until the county seat was changed after which they moved to a farm. Later they moved to a house near St. Helena church, where Mrs. Bruening still resides with her daughter, Theresa. Mr. Bruening died in 1931. There are seven children living, Mrs. Mary hieman, Quinn, SD., Carl, Adolph, Joe and Theresa, St. Helena, Leo of Norfolk, and Fred of Hartington. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Klug St. Helena has two other entries for the Golden Circle in the person of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Klug. Mrs. Klug, whose maiden name was Mary Wuebben was born in a dug-out on the Joe Wuebben place April 4, 1868, and has lived near there every since that time. Her residence in the county has thus been 64 years. Mr. Klug was born on the place now owned by Henry Wuebben, August 24, 1861, making his residence in the county a record of 71 years. The two were married Nov. 21, 1893, at St. Helena by Rev. Father Schoof, and have farmed since then. Mr. Klug has lived on the same farm for 66 years, but the couple later moved to St. Helena. They have seven children, Mrs. Henry Jensen, Fordye, Ferd, Joe and Mrs. Fred Wieseler, St. Helena, Rose, Platte Center, and Mrs. Robert Schove, St. Helena.
