This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by CAROL TRAMP February 2002 ====================================================================== WYNOT TRIBUNE FEB. 16, 1938 (Mrs. Henry Juergens, editor) MARY STRATMAN FETED ON 84TH BIRTHDAY WYNOT- In honor of Mrs. Mary Stratman's 84th birthday anniversary which was on St. Valentine's Day a group of relatives and friends gathered at her home Sunday afternoon. The time was spent socially and a lovely supper which the guests brought with them was served. Among out of town relatives present were Mr. and Mrs. Mike Koch and family of Fordyce, Mrs. George Wiesner of Ethan, SD, Mrs. Jacob Frein of Phillip, SD. The three ladies are daughters of Mrs. Stratman. Also several grandchildren, Ignatious, Norbert and Albert Stratman of Fordyce and Miss Veronica Stratman of Mitchell, SD. Rev. Otto Zillig of Menominee, her former pastor was also present, as well as a group of neighbors and friends. Besides her son Anton, at home. Mrs. Stratman has one other, Albin of Wessington, SD. Mrs. Stratman who is a member of the Golden Circle of Cedar County Pioneers has lived in this section of Cedar County for 57 years. She came to America from Germany, her birthplace, in 1880 with her mother and five brothers shortly after the death of her father. They lived in the east for one year then came to Cedar county and settled on a homestead ner St.Helena. In 1915 Mrs. Stratman and her son Anton moved where they have since resided. Mrs. Stratman came to Cedar County in 1881 after the big flood that spring. She crossed the Missouri River in a skiff and landed at St. Helena which was at that time the county seat. Mrs. Stratman greatly enjoyed the visit with her old friends Sunday and she also received brithday greetings from friends who called on Monday.
