This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp ====================================================================== WYNOT TRIBUNE JUNE 23, 1938 WYNOT PIONEER IS HONORED ON THURSDAY MISS EMMA STRENZKE FETED ON 80TH BIRTHDAY wynot - Miss Emma Strenzke one of the few remaining early settlers of this community, observed her 80th birthdaY anniversary Thursday, June 16, at her home in St. James. Mentally alert and physically active despite her age, Miss Strenzke's keen mind recalls many of the people and the happenings of the early days and enjoys recalling early incidents for the benefit of her many friends. With Miss Strenzke on her birthday were her three sisters and her brother, Mrs. Louise Nissen, and Miss Albertine Strenzke of Vermillion and Mrs. Edith Kopping and Theodore Strenzke of Wynot. Miss Strenzke's birthplace was Prairie-du-Chien, Wis., She came from there to Cedar County with her parents in 1876 and lived on the Joe Riff farm for one year and then settled in St. James where they built their home in which Miss Strenzke has lived since--over 60 years. Her friends enjoyed visiting with her as she is a good conversationalist and keeps informed on the news and events of the times. JONES HARDWARE STORE CLOSED AFTER 15 YEARS wynot - The A.W. Jones hardware store, doing business in Wynot for the past 15 years closed last week when Mr. Jones finished selling his stock. Mr. Jones bought the business in 1923 from O.M. Konegni and since that time he and his son T.O. Jones have been associated together in the hardware and undertaking business until last year when T.O. moved to Hartington and A.W. continued the hardware business alone. Mr. Jones, who is one of the early settlers of this section, will retire from business and devote more of his time to overseeing the farming operations of his place north of town. AUXILIARY HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING OF OFFICERS Wynot - At the annual meeting of the ladies auxiliary of the cemetery association held last Friday the election of officers resulted as followed: Re-elected were Mrs. B.C. Brunick, president, Mrs. Lillian Bagge, vice president and Mrs. Henry Juergens, treasurer, Mrs. Elmer Keegen was the newly elected secretary. Plans for the year were discussed and it was voted to hold another bazaar in connection with the annual dinner and program on Memorial Day next year.
