These two scales are about the same age and are perhaps close to 70 years old. One is a counter scale and the other is a presciption scale. Both belonged to Mr. Schulte's father, Alex Schulte, Sr. and were used in his drug store at St. Helena and he got them from H.J. Aberley, who had the very first drug store at St. Helena in the early days. The counter scale has been used almost continously since that time. It is a 9 x 20 inch scale with a marble top and has a capacity of 5 pounds. Mr. Schulte has it inspected once a year and it is in perfect condition. He has not used the prescription scale in late years. These are believed to be the first drug counter scales to be brought into the county and also the oldest. The prescripton scale is about the same as those used to weigh gold dust. The original weights are still used with the scales.
