AND MRS. JOHN HOCHSTEIN HONORED ON GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MAY 28 Wynot - Mr. and Mrs. John Hochstein celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Monday May 28th. The day started with a high mass at Sacred Heart church with Rev. Vaclav Kovar officiating. Attending Mr. and Mrs. Hochstein were Mrs. Hochstein's sister, Mrs. Mary Schulte Hochstein who was bridesmaid at the wedding 50 years ago, and Mr. Hochstein's nephew, Will Hochstein of Nazareth, Texas, the best man at the wedding 50 years ago. was Mr. Hochstein's brother, August Hochstein who has since died. Mrs. Hochstein wore a navy blue dress and hat and wore a corsage of yellow roses. Mrs. Mary Hochstein wore a blue gray-suit and hat and also wore yellow roses. The men wore yellow mum buttonnieres. Following the church service the guests went to the Hochstein home where at noon a three course dinner was served to 125 guests. The tables were decorated with white bells tied with gold ribbon and with gold and white candles. The gold and white motif was carried out and garden flowers also decorated the tables and rooms. Mrs. Alphonse Schulte of Fordcye and Mrs. Elmor Tobin on Sioux City had charge of the brides table and Mrs. Paul Borst of Randolph was waitress of that table. They were also in charge of the guest book and gifts. Open house was held in the afternoon from 2 - 4 o'clock. Many friends and relatives called to offer congratulations and best wishes to the honored couple. They also received a host of cards and letters of congratulations and phone calls from as far away as Canada, and they received many beautiful gifts. Visitng and cards were enjoyed and a cafeteria supper was served to 175 guests. The days observance ended with a dance at Homewood Park. Mr. and Mrs. Hochstein are both lifelong residents of Cedar County and of this vicinity. Both were born near Bow Valley. Before her marriage, Mrs. Hochstein was Rose Schulte daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schulte. They were married May 28, 1901 by Rev. Birnbach. After their marriage they started housekeeping on the farm about two miles northwest of Wynot where they have since resided. They have 12 children and 37 grandchildren all of whome were present for the aniversary except one daughter, Sister Rose Jean of Buechel, Ky, who was unable to be present but who is coming this weekend for a weeks visit and one great grandchild, five day old Mary Ellen Hoss of LeMars. Their children are Lawrence of Randolph, Gilbert of Coleridge, Fritz of Wynot, John, Jr. of Laurel, Don at home, Mrs. Ray (Viola) Lammers, Fordyce Sister Rose Jean (Valeria) of Buechel, Ky., Mrs. B.J. (Delores) Abbot of Hartington, Mrs. Roman (Rosein) Pinkelman, Wynot, Mrs. Irvin (Ruth) Huennekens, Wynot, Mrs. Don (Frieda) Hoss of LeMars, and Mrs. Ralph (Mary Louise) Wieseler, Wynot. One son, Reinhold, passed away in 1928. Guests from a distance included Mrs. Mary Hochstein, Alberta Canada., Mrs. Will Hoeschen, Newburg, Ore., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker, Spencer, SD., Mrs. Lizzie Kunkel, Alexandria, SD., Mr. and Mrs. John E. Becker, LeMars, Ia., Mrs. Jennie Greer and Mrs. Rose Greer, Burke, SD., Mr. and Mrs. Will Hochstein, Nazerath, Texas., Mr. and Mrs. Emeroy Bonertz, Alberta, Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Hoss, LeMars, Ia., Mrs. Elizabeth Schroder, Yankton, Mrs. Elinor Tobin, Sioux City.
