Mr. Nielsen discovered the robbery when he opened this place of business Monday morning. Mr. Nielsen and his wife had been out of town all day Sunday and did not go to the market until Monday morning. The thief or theives gained entrance to the building by prying the lock loose on the basement door. It had been loosely replaced as the culprits left. A bunch of burnt matches at the front door indicates they might have tried to get in that way first. When Mr. Nielsen locked up Saturday evening or early Sunday morning he put the day's proceeds into his own private locker. When it would seem that the money would keep in cold storage, the thief picked out Mr. Nielsen's locker key from among the 302 keys on the board, opened his locker and made off with the money. Sheriff Clements investigated the break in. The opinion is generally held that the theft was made by someone familiar with the plant and Mr. Nielsen's habits. A second attempt was made to enter the building Tuesday evening Sheriff Clements told the News. The robbers were apparently scared away before completing their work. The method of gaining entry attempted Tuesday was different from successful breakin over the weekend.
