Olsen have received the following letter from their son Alva, which shows that he is in the hospital, suffering from wounds as a soldier. He had recently returned from a special school and wrote to his parents on the eve of the big battle in which he was wounded. I am dictating this letter because my right arm is broken and I can’t use it. I have been here a week and this is the first chance I have had to send a letter. My wound is fairly serious, but I am getting on fine. Haven’t heard from home in a good long time, the mail service is pretty poor. I am feeling pretty good, and am getting the best of care in an American hospital. Don’t change the address when you write – they will forward the mail. Much love from Alva This letter was written on July 29th, and reached here last Sat. Evening. The following letter written in a Red Cross hospital to the parents of Lester Jacobsen In this city is self-explanatory. Strangely enough, these two chums who enlisted at the same time and were with the same company were wounded at the same time in the same place, the right arm, and are now in the same hospital. American Red Cross US Military Hospital, Paris July 19, 1918 Dear Mr. Jacobsen, Your son, Lester, was wounded as you have from the Government on July 19th. It was at 8 in the evening when he was wounded, but not seriously, and is getting on as he says all right, and when he can he will write to you himself. Meanwhile, he says for you not to worry. He is a good patient and really doing well.
