MILLS VALLEY SCHOOL

The first classes were held in Mills Valley in 1887 in one room of Wesley Marrs' sod house with H.M. Pickney as teacher. A frame building was put up in 1892. When a road was made through the Valley in 1911 the school building was moved five miles north west of Arnold , here it stood until 1957 when it was sold and moved into town.
The school was closed intermediately throughout the years and closed for good after the 1952 term. Few records are available.
Mrs J.G. Hammound taught a tern in 1896.
Bessie McGuire taught the following children in 1898-99:
Gertie and Bertha Lathrup, Gertie, Bertha, Elsie and Caddy Maxsom, Ralph, Arthur and Edna Mills, Flora Davis, Harry and Edith Judkins, Guy, Charlie, Clarence and John Mills, Orval and Claude Hutckins, Ben and Bernard Mills, Effie and Howard Shelton, Rdwin Castor, Florence English.
