DEHNING, EDWARD PAUL
Edward (Eddie) Paul
Dehning was born near Wabash, Nebraska June 16, 1896 and departed this
life on Saturday morning July 18, 1942
after a lingering illness of two years. He had reached the age of forty
six years, one month and two days. In 1917, at age 20, he came to
Deuel County where he has since been engaged in farming. On June 18,
1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Alma Kallsen of Big Springs
and to this union seven children were born. He was confirmed by the Rev.
Wm. Brommer, the former pastor of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Besides one brother and
one sister who preceded him in death, he leaves to mourn his departure,
His faithful wife Alma, six sons, Mervin, LaVern,
Delmar, Marion, Orval and Lyal., one daughter, Eileen and his parents
Mr. and Mrs. Dehning of Elmwood, Nebrasla. Five brothers and three
sisters,
beside numerous relatives and friends.
Funeral services were
held in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on the 20th of
July at 3:30 PM. Interment was made in the Big Springs Cemetery.

DEHNING, ALMA
KALLSEN
Alma, A. M. Dehning was
born on October 31, 1895 to Henry and Anna (Roh) Kallsen on her parent's
homestead in Deuel County, Nebraska.
She continued to live in Deuel County until December of 1979 when she
moved to the home of her son and family in Julesburg, Colorado. Due
to failing health she moved into the Julesburg Nursing Home in March of
1983, where she resided until her death this last Sat, September 13,
1986.
Alma was made a child
of God and co-heir of His kingdom by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on
December 27, 1895 at Immanuel German
Lutheran Church north of Big Springs. She became a communicant member of
Immanuel by rite of confirmation on April 17, 1910. Later,
when the Immanuel congregation dissolved, she became a member of Zion
Lutheran Church of Big Springs. At Zion she was a member of the
Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
She attended school at District 18 in Deuel County. On June 18, 1919 she
was united in marriage to Eddie P. Dehning at Chappell, Nebraska.
To this union were born six boys and one girl. After the death of her
husband in 1942, she maintained the family farm with the help of her
children.
She was honored to have five of her six sons serve their country in the
Armed Services.
In 1948 Alma moved to
Big Springs. She cooked for a number of years at the Big Springs High
School, of whose students many will remember
her cinnamon rolls. Several students from rural Big Springs lived with
Alma during their high school days.Alma was a charter member of the
Happy Hour Club, which recently celebrated their 75th Anniversary. In
1959 she was the Deuel County Queen. She was also a dedicated member
of the American Legion Auxiliary and Home Circle Club. She especially
enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends.
Alma was preceded in
death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters. She was
the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her seven children, Mervin of Seward, Nebraska, LaVern
of Julesburg, Colorado, Delmar of Sidney, Nebraska, Marion of Brule,
Nebraska, Orval of Houston, Texas, Lyle of Longmont, Colorado and Eileen
of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were
conducted at Zion Lutheran Church, Big Springs, Nebraska on September
16, 1986 at 10:30 AM by the Rev. Chris Kellog.
Pallbearers were her sons: Mervin Dehning, LaVern Dehning, Delmar
Dehning, Marion Dehning, Orval Dehning, and Lyle Dehning. Interment was
in the Big Springs Cemetery.

Services Held for Lifelong Resident Walter Kallsen, 69. Funeral services
were held Friday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Big Springs
for Walter Kallsen, 69, who died Monday, Nov, 19, at the Ogallala
hospital. He had been ill several months.
The Reverend A.F. Otto was in charge of the services. Members of the
American Legion served as honorary pallbearers. A military service
was held at the Big Springs cemetery with the Austin Funeral Home of
Julesburg in charge of arrangements.
Born Aug. 4, 1893 at Big Springs, he spent his entire life in the
community. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. A
veteran of
World War I, he was a member of the recently organized Lake McConaughy
Barracks 24443 of the World War I Veterans, Inc. On Dec. 18, |
1923, he married Meta Dehning at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They had five
children.
Survivors include his wife Meta; two daughters, Mrs Maxine Mauser of Big
Springs and Gladys Kallsen of Colorado Springs; two sons, Irvin
and Vern, both of Big Springs; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs
Laura Mohr and Mrs Alma Dehning, both of Big Springs; two brothers,
Carl and Herman, both of Big Springs, and several neices and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, William Walter,
a sister Lillie and a daughter, Lorna Mae

Funeral services for Meta Kallsen, 92, of Big Springs were held Friday,
June 5, 1992 at 10:30 AM from the Zion Lutheran Church in Big Springs,
Nebr.
with Pastor Pat Riley officiating. Interment was in the Big Springs
cemetery. Austin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She died on
June 1, 1992.
She was born May 24, 1900 to Henry and Ureika Dehning. She attended
school at Wolbach, Nebr. and moved to Big Springs when she married
Walter Kallsen on December 18, 1923. She was confirmed in the Lutheran
Faith in 1923. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Zion
Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the
Homemakers Club. She was preceeded in death by her husband and a three
year old daughter, Lorna; six brothers and two sisters.

Amy Lucy Lichty was born September 7, 1883, near Orchard, Nebr., to Joseph and Christina Clifton. She died October 30, 1969, at Julesburg.
Mrs. Lichty joined the Methodist Church in her youth and was active in the Woman's Society of Christian Service. She was a member of the
Royal Neighbors 47 years.She married Frank D. Lichty at Orchard in 1902. They had five children. The Lichtys came to Big Springs in 1915.
Mrs. Lichty was a Julesburg resident since 1948. Her husband and one daughter preceded her in death.
Funeral services were November 1 from the Julesburg Methodist Church with Rev. Ole Aarvoid officiating. Music was by Mrs. Harry Tatum,
R. R. Nelson and Mrs. Charles Woodhams. Pallbearers were Vance Dorn, Bruce White, Philip True, Bruce Lichty, Delmont Splitter and Glen Dancer.
Survivors include a son, Darrell, of Big Springs; three daughters, Mrs. H. L. Splitter of Big Springs, Mrs. Marvin Ferrel of Julesburg, and
Mrs. Ralph Johnson of Canton, Missouri; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Aggie Dennis of Randolph, Nebraska.
Interment was in Big Springs Cemetery.
KALLSEN, ANNA ROH
Anna Magdalena Roh,
born January 14, 1859 in Eggeback, Schleswig-Holstein Germany. She
emigrated to the United States in 1886, locating
at davenport, Iowa where she remained 2 1/2 years. She came to Big
Springs, Nebraska in 1888, entering into the holy state of matrimony
with
Mr Henry Kallsen in that year. They made their home on their family farm
9 miles north of Big Springs until 1919 when they moved to Big Springs.
She had been ailing for several years and suffered a paralytic stroke
six days before her death. She leaves in bereavement her husband, 5
children;
Mrs Laura Mohr of Avoca, Iowa; Mr Walter Kallsen, Mrs Alma Dehning, Mr
Carl Kallsen and Mr Herman Kallsen of Big Springs; and twelve
grandchildren. One daughter, age 7 and an infant son preceded her in
death. Two living sisters, one in Germany and one in Brazil, South
America.
Mrs Kallsen had an exceptionally pleasant personality, was greatly loved
by her family and friends. The esteem in which she was held in this
community
was manifested in the number who paid their last respects at her funeral
which was held Friday afternoon at the Lutheran Church, Rev M P Dreyer
officiating. Interment was made in the Big Springs Cemetery.
KALLSEN, HENRY FREDERICK
Henry Frederick Kallsen was born
in Bouhl, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on March 8, 1855, and passed away
January 30, 1933 at the age of
77 years, 10 months, and 22 days. He emigrated to America in the year
1881 settling at Atlantic, Iowa, where he worked for several years. In
1886 he came to Big Springs, and took a homestead nine miles northwest
of town. On December 26, 1888 he was united in marriage to Anna
Magdalena Roh. To this union seven children were born, two having
preceded him in death, a son who died in infancy and a daughter who died
at the age of seven years. They made their home on the farm until the
year 1919 when Mr and Mrs Kallsen moved to their new home in Big Springs
where he lived until the time of his death. His wife preceded him in
death on February 10, 1931. He leaves to mourn his departure five
children,
Mrs Laura Mohr, of Avoca, Iowa; Mrs Alma Dehning, of Big Springs;
Walter, Carl and Herman all of Big Springs; fourteen grandchildren, one
daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, three nephews, Nick and Henry Kallsen
and John Jergensen; one niece Mrs Marie Laabs; two sisters-in-law,
one in Germany and the other in Brazil, South America, and a host of
friends. He was a kind and loving father and husband, a good neighbor,
and
an excellent citizen, of a pleasant and cheerful disposition and counted
his friends by the number of his acquaintances. He was one of the
pioneers
of the community, having come here during the homesteading period and
through it learned the value of real friendship and he never overlooked
an
pportunity of expressing it for the betterment of the community or its
citizens. A quartette composed of Mesdames Fred A Johnson and Henry
Skogland
and Messrs. Glen Tatum and Otto Riss accompanied by Mrs Otto Riss sang,
"Shall We Gather at the River", "The City Four Square", and "We are
Going Down the Valley One by One". The pallbearers were John Morrison,
John Steward, G.C. Mauser, Ferdinand Ostwald, G.W. Zalman and
Tom Borm; honorary pallbearers were Robert McCormick, Frank Dorn, Archie
Condy, George Richardson, Riley Ford and Pete Borm. Burial was
in the Big Springs Cemetery.

Gottlieb Mauser, Big Springs, Dies
Nonagenarian Had Been Resident of Community 75 years
Funeral services for Gottlieb C Mauser, a resident of the Big Springs
Community for 71 years, were held Wednesday morning in the Methodist
church at Big Springs. The Rev. J.B. Roe, pastor, conducted the rites
with interment in the Big Springs cemetery. Mr Mauser, 95, died Sunda
at the Ogallala Rest and Nursing home, death being attributed to
complications attending the infirmities of his years.
He was born Dec 24, 1860 in Germany. Coming to America at 21 years of
age, he first settled in Waco, Nebr., where he plied his trade as a
blacksmith for four years before coming to Big Springs in 1885. Mr
Mauser married Anna Moeller in 1889. He disposed of his blacksmith shop,
which he had operated since coming to Big Springs, in 1892 when they
moved to a farm north of town. They ranched and farmed until 1915,
when they established the present family home in Big Springs. Eleven
children were born of their marriage, four passing away in infancy.
Surviving are his wife, Anna; two sons Otto and Ben Mauser both of Big
Springs, and four daughters, Mrs Emma Everette of Fort Collins, Colo.
and Mrs Howard Rose, Mrs Herman Lehn and Mrs Donald Olson, all of Big
Springs. A son, Charles Mauser, died in 1936.

Services Held for Anna Mauser - Pioneer Resident
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 AM for Mrs G.C. Mauser, 90,
who died Monday morning at the Ogallala Rest Home where she
had been a patient for seven years. Services for Anna Mauser were held
from the Methodist Church with interment at the Big Springs Cemetery.
Mrs Mauser had been a bed patient at the rest home for the past year. Mr
Mauser preceded her in death in 1956. The couple were pioneer
residents of this community and had lived here continuously.
She is survived by two sons, Otto and Ben, both of Big Springs, and four
daughters, Mrs Emma Everette of Fort Collins, Colo., Mrs Tillie Lehn,
Mrs Lillian Rose and Mrs Mabel Olson all of Big Springs.

Funeral services were held Friday April 9, 1993 at 10:30 AM for Ben
Mauser of Big Springs, Nebraska, at the United Methodist Church in
Big Springs. His grandson, the Rev. David W Collins III of Madison,
Nebr. and the Rev. Charles Mitchell of Big Springs officiated the
service.
Interment was in the Big Springs Cemetery with Austin Funeral home in
charge of arrangements. He died April 5, 1993.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Kent Mauser, Mike Mauser, Mark Mauser,
Perry Bieber, Alan Bieber, Bentley Boyer, Mike Polk, Larry
McCroden, Walt Kallsen, Kevin Vaughn, Darrell Zorn and Gene Hensarling.
Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters, Sherry Mauser
Polk, Beth Mauser McCroden, Kay Bieber Kallsen, Mary Mauser Vaughn,
Joanna Mauser Zorn, Melody Boyer Hensarling, Lisa Boyer Collins,
Danielle Mauser, Mary Bieber, Nancy Mauser and Joanne Mauser. Music was
by his nieces Marguerite Guyer and Idell Kjeldgaard.
He was born at Day Town on April 6 1905 to Gottlob and Anna Mauser. He
grew up attending school and the Methodist Church at Day Town
and later in Big Springs. As a young may he worked for the Grace family
and farmed with his brothers Otto and Charles. He was married to
Blanche Pocock on May 1 1926 at Sidney, Nebr. They lived on the Mauser
homestead, farming, until 1952 when they moved into Big Springs.
To this union four children were born. Murl, Mildred, Harold and Carole
Ann.
He was a charter member of the Elks lodge in Ogallala, the Odd Fellows
Lodge and the Rural Fire Department. He served on the school board
of District 27 in Day Town and was president of the Big Springs Rural
High School Board of Education. He maintained at active interest in the
community by supporting various activities and projects, including
athletics, Boy Scouts, introduction of REA and the funding for
installation of
field lights at the ballpark.
He was preceded in death by his father Gottlob, mother Anna, wife
Blanche, brothers Otto and Charles, sisters Tillie and Lillian, and
several
brothers and sisters at birth, also a great-grandaugher Monica.Survivors
include two sons, Murl and Harold, two daughters, Mildred and
Carole Ann, 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters Emma
Everett and Mabel Olson and many nieces and nephews
MAUSER, BLANCHE OPAL POCOCK

Blanche Opal Pocock, daughter of Ada and Glenn Pocock, was born in Nance
County, Nebr., September 7, 1906.When still a young girl
she moved to Big Springs with her parents where she resided until the
time of her death, May 15, 1970, at the age of 63 years, 8 months and
8 days. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Woman's Society
of Christian Service. She was a charter member of the Pione
Rebekah Lodge No. 407. May 1, 1926, she was united in marriage to Ben
Mauser in Sidney. To this union four children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Willie, and two
sisters, Nina Kahl and Abbie Kahl. She is survived by her husband,
Ben, and four children, Murl, Mildred Bieber, and Harold, all of Big
Springs and Carol Boyer of Fort Worth, Tex.; three sisters Ethel Haring,
Madison, Wisc., Lola Chandler, Lakeview, Ore., Lois Rallens, Big
Springs; two brothers, Edgar Pocock, Big Springs and Harley Pocock ,
North Platte; thirteen grandchildren and one great grandson. Funeral
services were May 18 at the Big Springs Methodist Church with Rev.
Willis Harder officiating. Music was by Glen Kepler and Mrs Wayne
Kjeldgaard. Her grandsons were pallbearers. Interment service was at
the Big Springs Cemetery. Austin Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.

Ivan Jay Palser, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the Perkins County
Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2004,
at the Assembly of God Church in Big Springs with the Revs. Edgar Palser
and Chris Wadle officiating. He was born April 22, 1926, on a
farm southwest of Big Springs, the son of William H. and Grace B.
(Taylor) Palser. He spent his early years on the family farm, helping
raise
dairy cows and hogs and grow a variety of crops. He attended Longview
Grade School near the family farm and graduated from Big Springs
High School in 1943.
Mr. Palser was drafted into the Army in
the fall of 1944. He served in Panama as a staff sergeant. After his
discharge, he attended Southwest
Bible College in 1949-50, and in 1950, he married Mary Helen Beal. The
couple made [their] home on the family farm, where he engaged in
farming with his father and brothers, John and Vern. In 1968 they formed
W H Palser Farms, inc., which is now run by John's son, Steven.
Mr. Palser served on the Western
irrigation District board for many years and was also a member of the
Longview School Board. He was a
member of the Big Springs Assembly of God Church, the American Legion,
and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a lifelong member
of the Gideon Association. His favorite hobby was riding his
motorcycle. Mr. Palser and his wife attended the annual motorcycle rally
in Sturgis,
S.D., for nearly 30 years, usually with relatives and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen,
three daughters, Carole (Keith) Chapman, Nita (Mark) McGreer, Marilyn
(Ken) Volkert, three sons,
Greg (Marianne) Palser, Ivan Gene Palser, Will (Terri) Palser, and
fourteen grandchildren, Charles McGreer, Christopher McGreer, Paul
McGreer,
Patrick McGreer, Timothy McGreer, Jennifer McCadams, Ginger Ludlow, Greg
Chapman, Clint Chapman, A. J. Palser, Stephanie Guajaurdo,
Angelyn Turner, Katie Palser and Sarah Palser.
Burial was in the Big Springs Cemetery.

Pioneer Glenn Pocock Dies
Rites Saturday for 99 Year old Big Springs Man
Big Springs - Ninety-nine-year-old Glenn E Pocock, a resident of the Big
Springs area since 1920, died Wednesday at the Ogallala Community
Hospital. He had been hospitalized about one month. Funeral services
will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the Big Springs Methodist Church with
Rev Harvey Porter officiating. Burial will be in the Big Springs
Cemetery with the Austin Funeral Home of Julesburg in charge of
arrangements.
Born Aug 5, 1864 at Rock Bluff, Neb., in Cass County, he would have
celebrated his 100th birthday this year. On Jan 21, 1894, he was married
to Ada Albright in Nance County. They also resided in Greeley County and
Valley County before coming to Big Springs in 1920. A farmer, he lived
his entire life in Nebraska.
The Pococks had 9 children, two of whom, a son and a daughter preceded
him in death. Mrs Pocock died in 1955. Survivors include five daughters,
Mrs Earl Kahl of Brule, Mrs Ben Mauser of Big Springs, Mrs Alion Haring
of Madison, Wis., Mrs Floyd Rallens of North Platte and Mrs Dee Chandler
of Lakeview, Ore.; two sons, Ed of Big Springs and Harley of North
Platte; 27 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 4 great-great
grandchildren and
one sister Mrs Stella Patterson of Oklahoma City, Okla. Two
great-grandchildren also preceded him in death.

Mrs Pocock Dies Suddenly
Rites to be held Tuesday Afternoon at Big Springs
Funeral services for Mrs Ada Albright Pocock of Big Springs will be held
Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the Big Springs Methodist church. Mrs Pocock
died unexpectedly Saturday at Genoa, where she and Mr Pocock were
visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs Jessie Russell. Mrs Pocock has
not
been in the best of health for the last few years, but has been in her
usual health and doing her own housework. On Saturday they went ot Genoa
for the visit and while there she became ill in the afternoon. She was
taken to the hospital but died that evening without regaining
consciousness.
Ada Albright, oldest daughter of Charles and Helen Albright, was born
Oct 21, 1876 at Auburn, Ind. For a time the family lived in Michigan and
moved to Nebraska in 1890.
She was married to Glen E Pocock on Jan. 21, 1894, in Nance county. They
celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last Jan 21 with a quiet
family dinner. Mr and Mrs Pocock came to Deuel county in 1920 and
resided on a farm north of Big Springs until 1946, when they retired and
moved to Big Springs. Nine children were born to them. Two have preceded
her in death, Wellie and Mrs Nina Kahl. Surviving, with her husband,
are five daughters, Mrs Abbie Kahl of Brule, Mrs Ethel Haring of
Franklin, Mrs Blanche Mauser of Big Springs, Mrs Lola Chandler of
Lakeview,
Ore., and her twin sister, Mrs Lois Rallens of Big Springs; two sons,
Harley Pocock of North Platte and Edgar Pocock of Big Springs; two
sisters
Mrs Gean Abel of Julesburg and Mrs May Ives of California, and 27
grandchildren and 36 greatgrandchildren.
The Austin Funeral Home of Julesburg in in charge of arrangements.
Interment will be in the Big Springs cemetery.

Obituary of Margaret Ida Skinner
Relatives and friends were shocked Friday of last week to learn of the very sudden death of the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Skinner
in Kelso, California.Margaret Ida Skinner was born February 7, 1941 at Big Springs and passed away Christmas day at her home in Kelso,
California at the age of 10 months and 18days. On April 6Th she was christened by Rev. B. F. Wallace in the Big Spring Methodist Church.
She leaves beside her mother and father and brother Richard,her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Perrel of Big Springs and her maternal
grandparents, Mrs.and Mrs.John Fox, Caldwell, Idaho and many other relatives. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist
Church with Rev. Wallace officiating. Pallbearers were Eunice Mae Aufrecht, Helen Pierce, Marie Sorenson and Mary Woods. Singers were
Laurel Linch, June Heiser, Jashaun Hester and Marguerite Willard and Miss Frances Dorn was at the piano. Interment was in the Big Spring cemetery
with G. H. Austin of Julesburg in charge.

Had Rites For R. Zimmerman
Big Springs Enterprise, Big Springs, Nebraska, December 1, 1971
Robert Zimmerman of
Loveland, Colo., died Nov. 26 of a heart attack. The son of Andrew and
Mary Zimmerman, he was born at Big Springs on September 23, 1899. He
grew up and attended schools in Big Springs. He also farmed here. He
had been living in Loveland for the past eight years.
He is survived by his widow
Helen, three daughters, Dorothy, Frances and Marjory; two sisters, Mrs.
A. L. Jensen of Ogallala and Mrs. Jack Brown of Big Springs. Graveside
services were at Big Springs Cemetery Tuesday morning with Rev. John
Baker officiating. The Loveland Funeral home was in charge of
arrangements.
