LEWIS, STEWART

Looking for information on LEWIS and STEWART ancestors in and around Beatrice, NB post-1880. I believe my great-grandparents James H. Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Stewart Lewis moved there from Piper City, Ford County, Illinois sometime after 1880. (They had moved from Frankfort Hill, Herkimer County, New York to Illinois in the mid-1860s.) I have a letter written by my grandfather, Charles Doyle Roscoe in 1898 from DeWitt, Nebraska to my grandmother, Edna Mae Lewis, in which he mentions missing her while she is in Beatrice and telling her to tell her mother and father such and such. Her mother and father were James and Mary Elizabeth.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who may know this family.

Henry and James worked on the farm of John Sparks who died in the Blizzard of 1888. Martha was supposedly adopted by a judge in Beatrice. She later married a man named J.C. Ritchey. I would be grateful for any confirmation of these "facts" and am especially interested in tracing what happened to Martha. Willing to share what information I have on Keill ancestry. Amanda Forden

Fran Zedney (fleaz64@juno.com)

FORDEN

I am trying to find the location of old scrapbooks of newspaper clippings which Amanda FORDEN had before her death. I met Mrs. Forden in 1985 and she showed me over half a dozen scrapbooks filled with clippings about the German families in the Hanover area. Clippings dated from the turn of the century and included articles from the Ostfriesische Nachrichten as well as Gage County papers. Since she had no children, she told me the scrapbooks would probably go to her nephews (I believe one was John Fossler) but I think they have also passed away. Mrs. Forden and her aunt before her had kept clippings on many of the families in the Hanover area who had emigrated from Ostfriesland. I was related to her through the SCHUSTER line which included ZIMMERMANNS, WEBERS, PARDES, BAUMANNS and others. At the time I saw the scrapbooks I had only a short time to take notes and I didn't have time to look at all of them. They include a treasure of information about the families in the Hanover area and I would very much like to know if they were donated to a library or who currently has them.
