Grant County was created by the Nebraska Legislature on March 31, 1887 and was named for Ulysses S. Grant. It's county seat is Hyannis. The population of Grant County makes it the 9th least populous county in the United States. Unincorporated communites in Grant County include Ashby and Whitman. Duluth was a one time a town in Grant County, but it's now used as a railroad marker. The Grant County Museum opened in 1958 is located on the top floor of the courthouse.
