I would appreciate help on the James MCALLISTER, Warren CALKINS, and the ERNST families of Holt Co, Ne. Thank You.. Rose Harnden roseh@coinet.com
My great grandmother and her first husband lived in or near O'Neill, Holt Co., NE from about 1880 to 1889. We know of three children she gave birth to while in Nebraska. One died in 1886 and is probably buried in the vicinity and could possibly have been mentioned locally in an obituary. I would like to find any mention of this family in any public records, school records, newspapers, church/cemetery records, land records and maybe even birth and death records.
Here are the particulars:
Head: Alexander M. Criswell b: Feb 29, 1848 in Indiana
Wife: Mary Matilda AKA Mattie COX Criswell b: May 14, 1854 in St. Joseph, MO.
Children who were probably enrolled in school:
Edwin Calvin Criswell, b: Feb 25, 1875 in KS (age about five to about 14 while living in Holt County)
James Harrison AKA Harry Criswell, b: July 26, 1879 in KS (age about one to about 10 in Holt County) Thomas Walter Criswell, b: Mar 27, 1881 "in Nebraska" possibly O'Neill. (lived in Holt Co. until about age nine)
Myrtle Virginia Criswell, b: Nov 7, 1882 in O'Neill, Holt Co., NE (lived in Holt Co., until about age eight)
Child that died:
Lulu/Lula Eva Criswell, b: Dec 5, 1884 (in O'Neill, Holt Co., NE?) d: Sept 22, 1886 (in O'Neill, Holt Co., NE?)
Thank you so much!

I am seeking information on Joel JONES, b. 10 Nov 1828, son of Jeremiah JONES and Sally WARRENNER. Joel married Mary Etta MOORE, b. 1835, daughter of William MOORE and Marsha STANTON. Their fourth child, my g-grandmother, was born in O'Neal, Holt County, on 21 May 1857. Her name was Sylvia Elizabeth JONES. Sylvia married Lafayette CURRENT, b. 22 Jul 1852, Niagara Falls, Welland Co., Ontario, Canada. There were three children born to Joel and Mary Etta, prior to Sylvia; but, I am not sure of the location. Could have been in O'Neal as well. They did relocate to Burgess, Clinton Co., IA, by 1 June 1864. I would appreciate hearing from any one that may have some information on any of these families mentioned. Thanks for taking the time to read this query. Ken Titt, Victoria, TX. my email address: KWT1149@VIPTX.NET
I need an obit for Lizzie McKim who died in Holt County March 10, 1952. Please contact Arlis Anderson-Renfro
Jeremiah Pool, my gggrandfather, was said to have been born in
Virginia. My first link to him is his marriage to Elmira Hilderbrand in White
County, Indiana in 1850. Although the family moved to Iowa around 1865 he is
known to have died in Ewing, NE in 1875. It isn't known how he came to be in
Nebraska nor are there any details about the cause of death. I don't believe his
body was returned to Iowa for burial, so he is probably buried in the Ewing area. Can anyone help shed some light on this mystery?
Thanks...

I am looking for any information on William Frederick ROMM. He is supposedly
buried in the Clarks Cemetery in Merrick County. He had two, possibly three wives:
Lousie STRIECH, Alvina MYHOFFER, and Gertie TREWEILER. He lived in HOLT County during
the 1900 census. Alvina or Gertie was born in PIERCE County. He was born in October
of 1853 and died in either 1924 or 1927. His last name was changed when he came to
America from Germany. I am specifically looking for his parent's names or the name
change information.
Thank you,
Wendy Hickman hickman@unix.asb.com
My maternal grandparents, Orville White and Edith Stahly, were
supposedly married in a "Methodist Church near Atkinson", according to
my mother. Does anyone know if this church still exists, and whether or
not marriage records were kept there, ca. 1920-1925?
I have already written to Holt Co. and Nebraska State VA offices for the
marriage record, but neither could locate one for this couple.
Any help you could offer will be greatly appreciated.
