My ggrandparents Rasmus and Catherine(Rasmussen) Johansen were homesteaders in Holt Co. sometime around 1886. Their land was near Chambers, but I couldn't find them listed on any census for Holt Co. I'm wondering what township that was. Also there was a family story about a relative of Rasmus or Catherine's getting drunk and driving a team off the road and into a creek or river where the man drowned. Any clues? Thanks! C. Prater

I'm attempting to find links to family that moved to Holt Co. in 1890 from Stewart Co., TN. In the book "Memories of Orchard" by Charles Alexander,(he is a half brother of my 1st cousins (Lois West Richards) grandfather, W.R. West) on pg. 8, under Stewart, my GGGrandfather Sylvester Barney Stewart & Sarah M.(Schmacher) Stewart with their 3 sons Walter Scott, Barney (my Grandfather) and Wilson came to Holt Co. NE, in 1890. They took homesteads and tree claims. Barney Stewart homesteaded 2 mi. west of Page. He married Della Sizer Aug.7,1885 on the Whiting bridge that crossed the Niobrara River, etc. Col. Barney was a very successful auctioneer for more than 30yrs. He served the Orchard community all those yrs.
I'm trying to find any info that would help me trace the other 2 boys, Walter Scott and Wilson. There is no other mention of them in this article.
After looking for several yrs, I have found all the family in the Stewart Co. Tn, 1860 census. Barney was 3,Walter 6, and Wilson 4. That would make them about 35 yrs old when they came to Holt Co. So far I haven't found any info except from the above listed book. It states that Barney and Della are both buried in the Page cemetery ?, I don't know if thats true and if my GGGrandparents also are buried there. If anybody there has any suggestions or help it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Doug Stewart, Missoula, Mt.

Allegonda VanDomelen Lappins (or Leppins- spelling variants) settled with husband Henry in Holt County or in the part of Holt that became Boyd. The family was Catholic. It is likely that Allegonda died c 1891. No evidence is found of her in parishes in what is now Boyd. I am seeking the date of death of Allegonda Lappins (Leppins).

My gr.grandfather John O'Connell and wife Catherine settled in Nebraska in 1875. I believe this was before Atkinson was a town. My grandpa Nicholas married Alice Smith, dau. of Patrick and Mary Galligan Smith in 1868. The log house from the O'Connell homesite (which was on the Elkhorn just out of Atkinson 1 mile) is now at the White Horse Museum in Stuart, Ne. My father Miles Moats and I moved it there in 1965. I do need exact dates of marriages and deaths to complete my file. Thank you so much.
