I have quite a bit on the Estes family, although not as much on Elizabeth and Peter Fithian's, children, but I do have a nice family portrait and Elizabeth's background and some of Peter's. Elizabeth's family had 14 children and 11 lived to adutlthood. Her father is buried on the Fithian homestead. Would love any census, or marriage, or b. dates you can give.

The Fithian home burned in 1886. It was the first frame house erected in 1871 or1872, P.M. doning all the carpentry, plaster work and brick work for the fireplace. P.M. and brother William were born in Henderson Co. IN Their father passed away when they were very young and they and their mother moved to MO. (or Ark) Later Teenage boys got employment in a saw mill powered by 12 mules Fithian family , including Grandpa HIiram and Pernina Estes and children emmigrated to Iowa rented land and had one crop. Then in fall of 1863 went on to Nebraska to homestead. Followed the much used Oregon trail fording streams and ending at Silver Creek . Plenty of fine timber where they located 25 miles west of Nebraska City located on Missouri River. William Estes about 19 at the time. and Elijah Estes about 15. Built log cabins and Henry G. and Brother Thomas born in the cabins 1864 and 1867. Hiram's claim was a mile down the creek 1840 Newton Co. census lists a Mason Fithian, 2 males under 5, 1male 20-30,1 male 40-50, 1male 50-60. 1 female 20-30, 1female 50-60. Would seem Peter Mason's father still alive in 1840 census, living with his father? Mason Fithian? From Andreas History of Nebraska P. M. FITHIAN, farmer and stock raiser, Section 15, Helena P. O., Helena, was born in Indiana and reared in Missouri, where he remained in connection with farming till 1862, when he enlisted his services in Company C, First Missouri Volunteer Cavalry, and remained in the service till 1863, when he was honorably discharged. After his war services, he came west and located here, where he has been actively connected with the present industry since. In 1858, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Estes, who was born and reared in Missouri. They have a family of six sons and two daughters--William, Mary J., Thomas, Henry, Rosa, George, Elva and Marion. Mr. Fithian has been an active worker in the development of the social and business life of his locality since coming here. Riley, Thomas and Mary received most of their education there in winter terms of 5 months. In 1872, districts were formed and a frame school built. That fall Henry's first year of school aged 5. He never got much schooling In his old age, was missing one leg. Mentions a brother Eliah having an artificial limb, but unsure who that Bro is?Perhaps, Elvah.
