Howard
and Flora McKinney. 1946-1949. Howard and
Flora were pastors in Central City at the time that Kenneth
and Mildred Mesner, and Warren and Selma Mesner were
married. When they left Central City Howard went with AFSC
to Gaza Palestine. When he came back, he worked with AFSC
through 1956, from 1954 through 1956 as the Executive in the
Regional Office in Des Moines. Sometime in the late 60's,
Howard and Flora began to be active with Friends World
Committee. They attended four of the Triennial Meetings over
a span of 20 years or more, Sigtuna, Sweden; Ghatt,
Switzerland; Kenya, and Mexico. By the time of the meeting
in Mexico, they were serving as part time staff, which they
did after Howard had retired. Somewhere over the years, he
served as chairman on the FWCC Personnel Committee.
The McKinneys were very much
involved in establishing a Meeting when they lived in
Charleston, West Virginia. And at different times, they each
served a term as Clerk of Lake Erie Yearly Meeting. After
moving to the Chicago area, both Howard and Flora were
active in the Illinois Yearly Meeting. One year Flora gave
the "Plumber Lecture".
After Howard left AFSC at the
end of 1956, the McKinneys weren't where they had much
contact with AFSC until they moved to the Chicago area in
1973. Then they both became quite active in their programs.
Flora was on the Executive committee and eventually became
chairperson for the Region, and was very much in the long
process when the Chicago and Dayton Regions were united. For
one period of six months she was also the acting
Director.
Howard was the on Youth
Committee, the Middle East Committee, Yearly Meeting
Representative to the Corporation and some time on the
Regional Executive Committee.
After they moved to their new
location in New Jersey in 1988, Howard was on the FGC
Central Committee and at one point was on both Finance and
Personnel Committee. For a number of years they visited
Yearly Meetings for either FWCC or FGC.
Currently he is a Yearly
Meeting Representative to AFSC Corporation, serves on the
Committee for Retirement, and both Howard and Flora have
served on the Committee to establish an AFSC project in
their area for Community Peace Training.
Howard is also on the Yearly
Meeting Personnel Committee. He is a member of Pendle Hill
General Board and serves on their Resident Life
Committee.
A year ago he gave up the
position of clerk of Haddonfield Meeting, a position he had
served for five years.
Willis Srack (Interim). 1949-1950.
