About Rock County Nebraska
Rock County originated in 1888 after separating from Brown County. Bassett became the county seat that same year. The first courthouse, a frame building, was constructed in 1889. It was destroyed in a fire in 1897. A second courthouse served the county until the 1930s. In the fall of 1938 area businessmen appeared before the county board to request a special courthouse bond election. The issue passed and was added to funds provided by the federal Works Projects Administration. Construction began in 1939 and by 1940 the Art Deco-style courthouse was completed. About NEGenWeb Opportunity
The NEGenWeb Project was formed June, 15, 1996, when Dale Schneider created the Nebraska Genealogy Project as a part of the USGenWeb Genealogy Project. At that time, there was very little available on the web for those who were researching genealogy in Nebraska. Over the next year, volunteers were recruited to coordinate the WebPages for each county... (To Learn More...)
