Gretna, founded in 1886, was named after the town of Gretna Green, in Scotland.
Driving through the city, you can still see the Scottish pride as you pass streets named Aberdeen, Angus and McKenna.
Located on Highway 6 and a few miles off of Interstate 80, Gretna is situated in the midst of some of the state's finest
parks.
Platte River State Park is to the southeast, Schramm Park and the Aksarben Museum to the south, southwest is Mahoney
State Park, home of the new SAC Museum, and northwest is Two Rivers State Recreation Area.
To the east of Gretna is the Chalco Hills Recreation Area, comprised of Wherspahn Lake and the Tiberon golf course.
