            from Uncle Sam to the new owner, Alton Wilhelms... learned that his application for
            deferment had been granted. - Perry N. Sapp" (The Polk Progress October 5, 1950, 1:4).
                "Norris Alfred is new Progress Editor; will take over August 1st. The new editor of the
            Polk Progress needs no introduction to this community, Norris is a local boy, being born and
            raised here in Polk. - Altori W. Wilhelms." (The) Progress, July 7, 1955, 1:2).
                "To Our Subscribers and Advertisers. This is the first of your Progress under the new
            editor-Publisher. - Norris W. Alfred. (The Polk Progress. Aug. 4, 1955, 1:3).
                "Polk Sold to Norris Alfred. The Polk Progress was sold July 1 to Norris Alfred. Alton
            Wilhelms, former Progress publisher, has purchased the Stromsburg Headlight and took over
            there August 1." (Nebraska Newspaper, August 1955, 15:1).
                "Starting next week, the Progress will be published by the Osceola Publishing Co., Inc.
            and will be edited by Dick Howe of the Osceola Record, Silver Creek Sand, Clarks News - Norris

                The Polk Progress was purchased by Dick Howe of the Osceola Publishing Company, Inc.
            September 1. (Nebraska Newspaper, Sept. , 1964, 20:3):Howe Now. by Dick Howe. That
            "polking Around" character Norris Alfred, will take over ownership and operation of the
            Polk Progress as of January 1, 1966, the New Year. (The Polk Progress December 23, 1965, 1:1).
                "Alfred Again an Editor. Noris Alfred is again operating a Nebraska newspaper. On
            September 1, 1964 he sold the Polk Progress to Dick Howe who also operates the nearby
            Osceola Record. On January 1, 1966, Howe sold it back to Alfred." (Nebraska Newspaper
            February 1966, 10:1).
                "Polk Progress... Norris (sic) Alfred again was at the head of this weekly as 1966 began.
            Alfred had purchased the paper originally from Alton Wilhelms in 1955. On September 1, 1964
            he sold it to Dick Howe of Osceola and purchased it back from Howe a little over 2 years
            later. Howe is publisher of the Osceola Record. (Nebraska Newspaper January 1967, 20:2).

                "We have been recipient of phone calls and letters since announcing we want to retire

                NOTICE: The last Polk Progress to be published, after 82 years, will be a day late 
            and a dollar short due to the Christmas holiday. (The Polk Progress Dec. 21, 1989, 1:4).

                82 year tradition ends... Polk Progress publishes its last edition today...

                Polk Progress folds... An 82 year-old legend died Thursday morning when Polk Progress
            editor and publisher Norris Alfred turned off his century old Babcock press after its final
