Hartstick, Mr. & Mrs. Ray - Cuming County Democrat

Fremont Tribune - Wed. 11 Oct 2006, " 50 years ago today"

     Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harstick, publishers of the Cuming County Democrat, have finally realized their dream and completed a new building in which to house the weekly paper. W.H. Harstick, the present owner’s father, published the paper from 1927 until his death in 1939, when the paper passed on to his wife, Mary. She sold to her son and daughter-in-law in 1945. The Cuming County Democrat has gone to press every week for the past 80 years.

NEWLIN, John H. (1853 -  ) 1904 purchased the "Harrison Sun, a weekly paper established May 11, 1900, by Colonel W. H. Ketcham ...in 1905 consolidated that paper with the Harrison Press-Journal, the latter being the oldest paper in Sioux county at that time, established in 1888 by W. E. Patterson. The first name of this paper was the Sioux County Journal. Our subject is now owner of the only paper published in Sioux county, and this publication enjoys a wide circulation in the surrounding country." from Compendium of History Reminiscence & Biography of Western Nebraska, page 419.
