FIRST DAY

   OPENING. -- The twelfth annual session of the North Nebraska Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church convened at Norfolk, Nebraska, Wednesday, September 6th. 1893, at 8:30 o'clock a. m., with Bishop John M. Walden. D. D. LL. D., presiding.

   DEVOTIONAL. -- After a few introductory remarks by the Bishop he read the first chapter of Ephesians, and the 726th hymn was sung. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered by the Bishop, assisted by the Presiding Elders, the Pastor of the Norfolk church and several other Elders. The Bishop offered prayer and the 211th hymn was sung.

   TRANSFER. -- The transfer of Wm. J. Hotherall. a probationer of the first Year. from the Nebraska Conference was announced.

MINUTES OF NORTH NEBRASKA CONFERENCE.

  SECRETARIES. -- On motion of J. B. Maxfield. D. C. Winship was elected secretary by acclamation.
   On Motion of Charles Snavely, F. B. Ham was elected statistical secretary.
   On motion of Dr. Maxfield. H. H. Millard was elected treasurer.
   The Secretary named the following assistants and they were elected: J. W. Jennings, H. A. Barton and C. N. Dawson.
   The statistical Secretary named the following assistants and they were elected: Chas. Snavely. W. H. La Vake and W. H. Linn.
   On nomination of the treasurer, E. E. Hosman was elected assistant treasurer.

   STATISTICAL. -- On motion of T. H. Leedom, a statistical session was ordered for 2 p. m. to-day.

   GOSPEL ALL LANDS -- On motion of J. B. Maxfield. Wm. Esplin was appointed to take subscriptions for Gospel in All Lands.

   METHODIST REVIEW. -- On motion of J. B. Leedom. D. K. Tindall was appointed to take subscriptions for the Methodist Review.

   CONFERENCE BAR..-- ON motion of J. W. Miller the bar of the Conference was fixed at the seventh tier of pews from the chancel.

    ANNUITY FUND. -- On motion of J. W. Shank, the treasurer nominated G. M. Brown as special assistant treasurer to take charge of the annuity fund and he was elected.

   TIME OF SESSIONS. On motion of J. B. Priest, the hour for opening our conference sessions was fixed at 8:30 a. m.. the first half hour to be devoted to devotional services, and the time of adjournment was fixed at 11:30 a. m.

   TRANSFER. -- W. P. Murray. a transfer of last year from the Erie Conference was introduced.

   DR. SPENCER. -- Rev. Dr. W. A. Spencer, corresponding secretary of the church extensions society, was introduced and addressed the conference. He took subscriptions for Christianity in Earnest, and favored us with two of his stirring songs.

   ADDRESS BY BISHOP.- The Bishop gave a very instructive and uplifting address.

   QUESTION 13 was taken up- "Has the character of each preacher been examined?"
   The character of David Marquett, presiding elder, was passed and he reported the Elkhorn Valley District.
    The character of J. E. Moore, presiding elder, was passed and he reported the Grand Island District.

   CLASS FOR ADMISSION. -- The Bishop called the names of the following candidates for admission into full connection: E. E. Hosman, Wm. H. Linn, Frank A. High, R. J. Cocking, Arthur L. Kellogg and E. E. Wilson; and reminded them of the impoprtance of the step about to be taken, and advised them to give especial attention to the questions that would be asked them.
   The Bishop appointed Rev. Dr. J. W. Shank to preside at the statistical session.

   PUBLIC WORSHIP. The presiding elder of Norfolk District and the resident pastor were appointed a committee on public worship.
   E. C. Harper was appointed to conduct the devotional services at the statistical session, and G. H. Main at the Thursday morning session.

   Announcements were made, the Conference Sang one verse of the hymn "My faith looks up to Thee." and adjourned with the benediction by Rev. Dr. W. A. Spencer.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

   Conference met pursuant to adjournment at 2 p. m. with Rev. Dr. J. W. Shank in the chair.

   DEVOTIONAL. -- Services were conducted by E. C. Harper

   REFERRED. -- Papers on Freedman's Aid and Southern Education. De Pauw University, Education, Western Methodist Book Concern. Boston School of Theology. Tracts and Sunday School Union were referred to appropriate committees.

   CURRENT EXPENSES. On motion of D. C. Winship it was ordered that monies paid by the several charges for services of evangelists be reported as current.

   ROLL CALL. -- On motion of Wm. Esplin, the roll of charges was called for statistics and benevolent collections.

   CONFERENCE COMMITTEES. -- The list of conference committees was called, announcements made, and the conference closed with the benediction by D. C. Worts.



Second Day.

FRIDAY.

   Conference opened promptly at 8:30 a. m., with the Bishop in the chair.

   DEVOTIONAL. -- Services were conducted by G. H. Main.

   MINUTES -- of yesterday's session were read and approved.

   STATISTICS.- The statistical secretary and the treasurer called the roll of delinquent charges.

   REPORTER. -- On nomination of D. C. Winship, R. J. Cocking was elected reporter for the press.

   ROLL. -- The secretary called the roll of members absent at first roll call, and the following responded: W. K. Beans, John Crews, A. Hodgetts, J. W. Robinson, E. R. Adriance and J. M. Bothwell.

   VISITORS. -- Rev. Geo. E. Shear, of the upper Iowa Conference. and Rev. F. E. Hudson, pastor of the Baptist church of Norfolk, were introduced.

   ADDRESS. -- The Bishop addressed the conference emphasizing the importance of observing the disciplinary order of church service.

   EXCUSED. -- On motion the following were excused from further attendance at this session of the conference: G. W. Norris, E. C. Harper and Wm. Stanner.

   QUESTION 13 was resumed, and the character of J. B. Maxfield, presiding elder, was passed and he reported Norfolk District.

   PRESENT. -- On behalf of Norfolk District, J. H. Brooks in a well chosen address, presented Dr. Maxfield with a testimonial of appreciation of his labors as presiding elder. To this the Doctor responded in his own inimitable manner, after which all joined in singing

"Blessed be the Tie that Binds
Our Hearts in Christian Love."

And the brethren of the conference came forward and gave him a royal hand shaking.
   The character of T. C. Clendening presiding elder was passed, and he reported the Omaha District.

   INVITATION. -- J. W. Bovee announced an invitation to visit the State Insane Asylum and the Beet Sugar Factory located near this city, and on his motion it was decided to visit the factory this afternoon at 3 o'clock and the asylum later.

   REFERRED. -- On motion of D. C. Winship, a communication from Josiah Strong, secretary of the

Evangelical Alliance, was referred to the committee on state of the church.

   QUESTION 13 was resumed, and the character of the following effective elders were passed, and they reported their collections, the number of probationers received, and the general spiritual condition of their charges, J. H. Frazer, W. A. Wilson, Wm. Gorst, John Crews, Bartly Blain, Wm. Stanner, Wm. M. Worley, M. Griffith, J. W. Robinson, J. B. Leedom, R. C. McReynolds, W. H. H. Pillsbury, H. A. Barton, G. H. McAdam, Wm. Esplin, G. M. Main, Jabez Charles, H. C. Myers, G. W. Norris, J. B. Priest, J. H. Brooks and J. W. Jennings.
   The characters of Peter De Clark and G. W. Martin were passed.
   The Bishop answered several questions of law concerning church membership and certificates of transfer.
   The conference directed the supernumeraries and superannates to report to the committee on conference relations.
   On motion of C. N. Dawson Conference adjourned announcements were made, a verse of "Blessed Assurance Jesus is Mine" was sung, and the Bishop offered prayer and pronounced the benediction.



Third Day.

FRIDAY.

   Conference opened at 8:30 a. m. with the Bishop in the chair. Devotional services were conducted by H. D. Brown.
   The minutes of yesterday's sessions were read and approved.
   On motion of F. B. Ham, the presiding elders were

constituted a committee to apportion the benevolent collections.
   The Bishop announced the receipt of draft on the chartered fund for twenty-five dollars and a dividend from Book Concern for $767. and drafts were ordered.

   QUESTION 13 was resumed, and the characters of the following effective elders were passed. and they reported the work on their charges: J. W. Miller, D. W. McGregor, J. R. Gearhart, D. C. Winship, G. A. Luce, J. L. St. Clair, H. H. Millard, F. B. Ham, G. M. Brown, Oscar Eggleston, H. D. Brown. Frank Crane, W. P. Murray, D. K. Tindall, Alfred Hodgetts, J. Q. A. Fleharty, W. K. Beans, T. C. Webster, Chas. Snavely, Henry Trezona, T. W. Mathews, J. T. Knuckey, C. N. Dawson and E. C. Harper.
   The characters of C. D. Day, E. A. Whitwam, J. J. Banbury and J. W. Shank were passed.

   DIED. -- It was announced that N. L. Guthrie had died during the year.

   VISITORS -- The following visitors were introduced: Chancellor Isaac Crook and Prof. C. M. Ellenwood, of Nebraska Wesleyan University; Rev. J. J. Parker, pastor of the Congregational church of Norfolk; Rev. Dr. W. K. Thomas of the Black Hills Mission, R. C. Colter of the Western Methodist Book Concern; Miss Allie Pfrimmer, Deaconess: Mrs. M. A. Claflin, secretary of the Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Home at Omaha, and Mrs. M. F. Roberts, organizer of the Woman's Home Missionary Society.

   PRESENT. -- On behalf of the Omaha District, W. K. Beans in an eloquent address, presented T. C. Clendenning, retiring presiding elder, with a fine gold watch and chain. Brother Clendenning responded with a few impressive words of appreciation. "Blest be the tie."
