FIRST SESSION -- THURSDAY, OCT. 4, 1894.

   Opening. -- The thirteenth annual session of the North Nebraska Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church convened at Seward Street Church, Omaha, Nebraska, Thursday, October 4, 1894, at 8:30 A. M., with Bishop .Edward G. Andrews, D. D., LL. D., presiding.

   Devotional. -- The Bishop read the eighth chapter of Romans, and announced the 393d hymn: "Just as I am, without one plea." After the singing, the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered by the Bishop, assisted by the Presiding Elders, the Pastor of the local church, and Dr. W. A. Spencer, the Bishop closing the service with a prayer of remarkable power and unction, which moved the hearts of all present.

   Roll. -- D. C. C. Winship, Secretary of the last conference, called the roll, and 73 members and probationers answered to their names.

   Transfers. -- The secretary. announced the transfer to this conference of Elmer E. E. Rorick from the Northwest Nebraska Conference, Fletcher M. Sisson from the Illinois Conference, and F. H. Sanderson from the Northwest Iowa Conference. It was also announced that Jesse W. Jennings had been transferred to the Northwest Nebraska Conference.

   Secretaries. -- On motion of J. W. Shank, D. C. Winship was re-elected secretary by acclamation; and on his nomination, H. A. Barton, C. N. Dawson, and N. A. Martin were elected assistants.

statistical secretary; and on his nomination, W. H. Linn, J. H. Wilcox, and Chas. Snavely were elected assistants.
   On motion of J. B. Leedom, H. H. Millard was re-elected treasurer; and on his nomination, E. H. Hosman and G. H. McAdam were elected assistants.

   Conference Bar. -- On motion of J. H. Brooks, the bar of the conference was fixed within the transcept.

   Time of Sessions. -- On motion of J. W. Robinson, it was ordered that the conference meet each morning, at 8:30, and adjourn at 12 m., the first half hour to be given to devotional services.

   Standing Committees. -- On behalf of the Presiding Elders, J. E. Moore read the list of standing committees, and they were elected. (See list.)
   Additional standing committees were also ordered and constituted. (See list).

   Dividend. -- The Bishop announced a dividend from the Book Concern of $598, and from the Chartered Fund of $25, and drafts were ordered for the same.

   Gospel All Lands. -- On motion of J. B. Leedom, Wm. Esplin was made solicitor for Gospel in All Lands, and papers were referred to him.

   Papers Referred. -- The secretary read communications from the Book Committee on General Conference expenses and on the Episcopal Fund, and they were referred to the Presiding Elders.
   Communications on Sunday-School Union, Tracts, Education, et cetera, were referred to appropriate committees.

   Visitors. -- Tne following visitors were introduced: Dr. Lewis Curts, of the Methodist Book Concern; Dr. W. A. Spencer, Secretary of the Church Extension Society; Dr. Jesse Bowman Young, Editor of the Central Christian Advocate; Dr. L. F. Britt, of the Nebraska Conference; D. C. Franklin of the Des Moines Conference; and W. E. Wilson; of the Iowa Conference.

   Address. -- On invitation, Dr. Spencer and Dr. Young addressed the conference.

   Statistical Session. -- On motion of J. B. Priest, a statistical session was ordered for the afternoon at 2:30.

   U. S. Army. -- On motion of D. C. Winship, the Presiding Elders were made a standing committee on morals and religion in the United States army, and communications on the same were referred to the committee.

   Constitutional Changes. -- On motion of J. B. Maxfield, communications on constitutional clianges.were referred to a special committee to be appointed by the Bishop.

   Address. -- On invitation, Chancellor Isaac Crook of Nebraska Wesleyan University gave an address, in which he announced that there were 325 students now in attendance.

   Postman. -- On motion of D. K. Tindall, A. V. Wilson was appointed conference postman.

   Question XIII, "Has the character of each preacher been examined?" was taken up. The characters of J. Moore, D. Marquette, Alfred Hodgetts, and J. B. Maxfield, Presiding Elders, were passed, and they reported their Districts.
   On motion of J. W. Robinson, time was extended;

   Sermon. -- On motion of J. H. Brooks, it was ordered that the hour for the conference missionary sermon be fixed at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

   Committee. -- The Bishop announced the following as the committee on constitutional changes: J. B. Maxfield, W. A. Wilson, Wm. Gorst, and J. W. Robinson.

   Preside. -- The Bishop appointed Dr. J. W. Shank to preside at the statistical session. The Bishop appointed D. C. Worts to lead the devotional meeting at the afternoon session, and J. B. Leedom for Friday morning.
   After announcements and the doxology, the Bishop prnounced the benediction.

SECOND SESSION-THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

   The Statistical Session was called to order promptly at 2:30, J. W. Shank presiding.

   Devotional. -- D. C. Worts conducted the devotional services.

   The statistical secretary called the roll, and statistics and monies were handed in. After announcements and doxology, the conference adjourned with benediction by H. A. Barton.

THIRD SESSION-FRIDAY MORNING, OCT. 5.

   Devotional. -- The conference opened at 8:30, Bishop Andrews in the chair. J. B. Leedom led the devotional services.

   Roll. -- The secretary read the list of absentees.

   The Minutes of yesterday's sessions were read and approved.

   Excused -- At his request, Chas. Snavely was excused from serving as assistant statistician, and R. D. Snyder was appointed in his place.

   On motion of J. B. Priest, W. K. Gray was added to list of assistant statisticians.
   The statistical secretary read the list of delinquents for reports.

   Special Committee. -- On motion of D. Marquette, a special committee was appointed to present a statement touching the financial distress in the region of drouth within the bounds of our conference, and the following were appointed: D. Marquette, J. W. Robinson, W. M. Worley, J. B. Leedom, and J. R. Gearhart.

   Nebraska Central College. -- On motion of D. C. Winship, communications concerning Nebraska Central College were referred to the following special committee: W. H. H. Pillsbury, J. B. Leedom, and T. C. Webster.

   Tracts. -- On motion of J. B. Leedom, H. C. Myers and

J. Q. A. Fleharty were added to the committee on Tracts.

   Question XIII was resumed, and the characters of the following effective Elders were passed and they reported their collections: G. W. Norris, J. W. Robinson, W. H. H. Pillsbury, R. C.    The characters of the following Elders without charges were passed: R. A. Whitwam, R. C. Harper, G. M. Brown. The character of Bartley Blain was passed.
   The character of J. J. Banbury, missionary in Central China, was passed. A letter from him was handed to the secretary to be read.

   Question XXII, "Who are the Supernumerary preachers," was taken up.
   The characters of the following were passed and their relation continued: H. L. Powers, J. W. Bovee, N. H. Gale, Samuel Cates, T. W. Owen, and J. P. Roe.
   At his request, the relation of C. H. Savidge was changed from Supernumerary to Superannuated.
   It was announced that John A. Dooley had been transferred to the Illinois Conference.

   Question XXIII, "Who are the Superannuated preachers?" was taken up. The character of Jacob Adriance was passed and his relation continued, and the secretary read

an interesting letter from him to the conference. The characters of D. T. Olcott, D. C. Worts, and Chas. Balson were passed and their relation continued.

   Question V, "Who have been continued on trial?" was taken up. The characters of the following were passed: John P. Yost, Francis M. Clark, Loton R. De Wolf, and Albert L. Gray. The committee reported their examinations, and they were passed to the class of the second year, the latter two to complete their studies in Fisher's history.

   Visitors. -- The following visitors were introduced: H. T. Davis, Dr. D. W. C. Huntington, Dr. C. C. Lasby, A. C. Crosthwaite, and F. M. Esterbrook, of the Nebraska Conference; W. S. Kelley of the California Conference; Dr. A. B. Leonard one of the secretaries of the Missionary society; Dr. G. W. Wainwright of the American Bible Society; James Simms of the West Wisconsin Conference, and F. P. Blakemore of the Oklahoma Conference.

   Question VII was then taken up. "Who are admitted into full membership?"
   The Bishop cautioned the conference to use the utmost care in the matter of admitting candidates into full connection.
   Richard J. Millard, Edward W. Erickson, Emory R. Adriance, Benj. B. Keister, and Arthur L. Kellogg were passed in their studies; E. W. Erickson, conditioned on reading "Episcopacy and the General Conference," and Arthur L. Kellogg on "History of Methodism," they were provisionally admitted and elected to Deacon's orders.
   Henry H. St. Louis, and Richard N. Throckmorton were passed in their studies and provisionally admitted, having been previously ordained.
   Wm. R. Northrop was continued on trial in the class of the second year.
   The case of John A. Roads was referred to the committee on Conference Relations.

   The case of Thos. P. Donnelly was referred to a special committee to be appointed by the Bishop.
   G. W. Martin, W. K. Beans, G. A. Luce, Wm. Gorst, were named as the committee.
   James M. Bothwell was passed to the class of the second year and continued on trial.
   Wm. J. Hatherall was continued on trial in the class of the second year, and conditioned on bringing up Fisher's History.
   Edward T. George was continued on trial in class of the second year, and the Bishop was requested to leave him without appointment to attend some one of our schools.
   The Bishop announced that Darley R. Collings bad been transferred to the Central Illinois conference, Wm. B. Slaughter to the Rock River conference, and Edward E. Wilson to South America.
   At his own request H. H. Millard was excused from committee on conference relations, and on motion of A. Hodgetts Wm. Esplin was appointed in his place.

   Address. -- Dr. Lewis Curts addressed the conference in the interest of the Book Concern.

   Picture. -- Dr. Tindall announced the presence of a photographer who wished to photograph the conference and on his motion the wish was acceded to.

   Nebraska Wesleyan. -- On motion of J. B. Maxfield, 11:15 A. M. tomorrow was fixed as the hour for hearing Dr's Crook and Clendening and Prof. Ellenwood in the interest of Nebraska Wesleyan University.

   Question X was taken up: "What members have completed the conference course of study?" The characters of the following were passed. They were passed in their studies, and they were elected to Elder's orders: Wm. Van Buren, Jehu H. Johnson, Cromer O. Larrison, Frank W. Bross, Lewis Campbell, and Arthur L. Mickel.

   The roll of committees was called and announcements were made.

   The Bishop appointed Frank Crane to lead the devotional services tomorrow morning.

   The doxology was sung and the Bishop pronounced the benediction.

FOURTH SESSION . -- SATURDAY MORNING.

   Conference convened promptly at 8:30 A; M.) Bishop Andrews in the chair.

   Devotional exercises were conducted by Frank Crane.

   The Minutes of yesterday's session were read and approved.

   Question VII was resumed, and the committee on Conference Relations reported in the case of John A. Roads, and on motion of H. D. Brown the report was re-committed.

   The special committee in the case of Thomas P. Donnelly reported, recommending that his character pass, that he be provisionally admitted into full connection and elected to Deacon's orders, and on motion of Charles Snavely the report was adopted.

   On motion of J. E. Moore John H. Vogt was provisionally admitted into full membership.
   Thomas P. Donnelly, Richard J. Millard, Benjamin B. Keister, John H. Vogt, Edward W. Erickson, Emory R. Adriance, Arthur L. Kellogg, Henry H. St. Louis and Richard N. Throckmorton were called forward and addressed by the Bishop on the character and labors of St. Paul, and after giving satisfactory answers to the usual Disciplinary questions they were admitted into full connection, and Thomas P. Donnelly, Richard J. Millard, Benjamin B. Keister, Edward W. Erickson, Emory R. Adriance and Arthur L. Kellogg were elected to Deacon's orders. John H. Vogt, Henry H. St. Louis and Richard N. Throckmorton. having been previously ordained.

   Question IX was taken up. "What members are in

the studies of the Fourth year?" Elmer E. Hosman, Farnam Ellis, William H. Underwood, William H. Linn and Frank A. High were passed to the class of the Fourth year; the latter to bring up Exegesis.
   Robert J. Cocking, John T. Crooks, and Thomas Bithel were continued in the class of the Third year.

   Question XI was taken up. "What others have been elected and ordained Deacons?"
   1st, as local preachers. Roddy D. Snyder, George C. Cobb, James M. Bothwell, and Cyrus P. Cheeseman were passed in their studies, and they were elected to Deacon's orders.
   Howard T. Canady, coming properly recommended from within the Iowa conference, was elected to Deacon's orders.

   Question XII was taken up. "What others have been elected and ordained Elders?" There were none.

   Transfer. -- The transfer of Peter DeClark from, the Des Moines conference was announced by the Bishop.

   Question XXX was taken up. "Where shall the next conference be held?" Grand Island and Fremont were nominated, and Fremont chosen.

   The following resolution presented by J. W. Miller was adopted:
   WHEREAS, We have kindly received and cordially welcomed the brethren who have been transferred to this conference, and
   Whereas, These brethren, however worthy, could not be brought in without displacing a large number of brethern equally worthy. Therefore,
   Resolved; First, That we respectfully request our Presiding Bishop not to transfer any one to our conference, without transferring some one of equal standing and rank out of the conference.
   Resolved; Second, That we respectfully request the Board of Bishops to apply this rule to future administrations in this conference.

   Address. -- Dr. A. B. Leonard addressed the conference in the interest of Missions.

   Postoffices. -- On motion of D. C. Winship, D. W. McGregor was appointed a committee on postoffices.

   The character of W. H. La Vake was passed.

   Address. -- Dr. W. H. H. Rees, one of the secretaries of the Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society, addressed the conference.

   On motion of A. Hodgetts it was ordered that when we adjourn it be to meet at 8:00 o'clock on Monday morning.

   Visitor. -- James Leonard of the West Nebraska Conference was introduced.

   The Order of the Day was taken up, and Chancellor Isaac Crook, Professor C. M. Ellenwood, treasurer of the board of trustees, and T. C. Clendening financial agent of Nebraska Wesleyan University, addressed the conference, and subscriptions to liquidate the debt were taken amounting to $777.00.

   Time. -- On motion of D. Marquette time was extended.

   On motion of Frank Crane conference adjourned. Announcements were made, the doxology was sung, and the Bishop pronounced the benediction.

FIFTH SESSION -- MONDAY MORNING.

   Conference convened pursuant to adjournment at eight o'clock, the Bishop in the chair.

   Devotional. -- W. H. H. Pillsbury conducted the devotional services. The journal of Saturday's session was read and approved.

   Question IV, 'Who have been received on trial?" was taken up, and Allen Bishop, Geo. C. Cobb, Frank H. G. Perry, Emerson R. Hunt, and William A. Rominger recommended by the Neligh District Conference; Elmer R. Shafer, Cyrus P. Cheeseman, and Wm. K. Gray recommended by the Norfolk District Conference, Edwin D. Gid-

ion, Henry T. Dewbree, and Wm. H. Stambaugh of the Omaha District; were passed in their studies and admitted on trial.

   Committee on conference relations reported in the case of John A. Roads. On motion of T. C. Clendening, he was continued on trial, and passed to the studies of the third year.

   The character of A. V. Wilson was passed; and on motion of J. W. Robinson, he was provisionally admitted to conference and elected to Deacon's orders. He then came forward and answered to the usual Disciplinary questions and was ordained by the Bishop, after which he was admitted into full connection.

   On motion of A. Hodgetts, the Bishop was requested to leave Frank A. High, T. P. Donnelly, E. T. George, Thos. Bithel, and J. R. Cocking without appointment to attend some one of our schools.

   On motion of J. B. Maxfield the Bishop was requested to appoint J. W. Shank, Editor of the Omaha Christian Advocate; Geo. M. Brown, Field Agent of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle; and E. A. Whitwam, President of the North Nebraska Normal College.

   Changes in Constitution. -- The Bishop presented the proposed constitutional changes and votes were taken as follows:
   I. On equalizing Ministerial and Lay Representation, -- Ayes, 43; Noes, 19.
   II. On change in Ratio of Ministerial Representation, (a. Gen. Conf. Prop.) Ayes, 7; Noes, 48: (b. South Carolina Prop.) Ayes, 51; Noes, 2.
   III On change in time of the meeting of the General Conference (submitted by the West Wisconsin Conference), -- Ayes, 60; Noes, O.

ference, as to the change of 2nd Restrictive Rule, and that we take a vote on the question at our session of 1895.
   On motion of J. B. Maxfield, Peter DeClark was granted a supernumerary relation at his own request, and, on motion of T. C. Clendening, he was requested to locate at the next session of our conference, and the secretary was requested to notify him of this action.

   Reports. -- The following reports were read and adopted, viz: Statistical, Conference Stewards, Treasurer, Church Extension, Tracts, Education, Periodicals, Missions, Methodist Episcopal Hospital and Deaconess' Home. (See reports.)
   Pending the adoption of the report on Missions, Dr. Leonard gave an address; also pending the adoption of the report on M. R. Hospital and Deaconess' Home Miss Herrick, Deaconess, addressed the conference.
   F. H. Sanderson, transfer to this conference, was introduced.
   On motion of D. C. Winship it was ordered that a separate column be set aside in our statistics for report of collections for the Hospital.
   On motion of A. Hodgetts, the conference asked the committee to give information as to report of the Hospital trustees.
   The reports of the following committees were read, and adopted: Periodicals, Sunday Schools, W. H. and F. M. Society, and Sabbath Observance.

   Relief. -- The special committee appointed to consider cases of necessity in the bounds of our conference made a report. Pending its adoption, Geo. W. Martin, Superintendent of State Relief Association, made a statement as to its work and the present imperative needs. A supplemental report was made, and the report adopted (See reports.)

   Nebraska Central College. -- The special committee on Nebraska Central College made a report, and on motion of T. C. Clendening the following substitute for the
