MINUTES OF NORTH NEBRASKA CONFERENCE.

   ADDRESS. -- Dr. J. W. Shank addressed the Conference in the interest of the Omaha Christian Advocate.

   CLOSING. -Announcements were made, doxology was sung and Conference adjourned with the benediction by Dr. Maxfield.


FRIDAY MORNING SESSION.

   DEVOTIONAL services were conducted by H. L. Powers.

   BUSINESS. -- The Conference business opened at 9 o'clock with the Bishop presiding.

   THE MINUTES of Thursday's sessions were read and approved.

   ADDRESS. -- On invitation, B. S. Spurlock gave an address in the interest of Mother's Jewels Home.

   TELEGRAM. -- The following response to our telegram of sympathy to Dr. Marquette was read by the Secretary. "Your action expressing sympathy and the prayers of the Conference for my recovery deeply moved me. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for this kindly remembrance. I doubt not my remarkable comfort and rapid recovery is in answer to these prayers."

   ROLL. -- On motion of J. B. Maxfield the roll of absentees was called and the following responded: A. L. Gray, W. P. Murray and W. H. Underwood.

   STATISTICS. -- On motion of J. B. Priest it was ordered that no more statistics be received after the close of this morning's session.

   QUESTION XXX was taken up and Schuyler was selected as the place to hold the next annual session of the Conference.

   QUESTION VII was taken up, "Who have been admitted into full membership?"
   The character of F. H. G. Perry was passed and he was announced transferred to the Missouri Conference.
   The characters of the following were passed, they reported their collections, they were passed in their studies, and admitted into full membership, advanced to the studies of the third year

and elected to Deacon's Orders. Wm. K. Gray, Emerson E. Hum, Wm. A. Rominger and Elmer E. Shafer.
   The character of Cyrus P. Cheeseman, already a Deacon was passed, he reported his collections, lie was passed in his studies, admitted into full connection and advanced to the class of the third year.
   The character of Edwin D. Gideon was passed, he was passed in his studies except Rhetoric and the Syllabi, advanced to the class of the third year, admitted into full connection and elected to Deacon's Orders.
   The character of Wm. D. Stambaugh, a Deacon, was passed, he reported his collections, and he was continued in the class of the second year.
   The character of Allen Bishop was passed, he reported his collections and he was continued in the class of the second year.

   THE TRANSFER of G. M. Cauffer from the Nebraska Conference was announced.

   QUESTION V was taken up, "Who have been continued on trial?"
   The characters of Elmer E. Day, Rob't F. Shacklock, John N. Gortner, Wm. W. Shank and Francis M. Wright were passed, their collections were reported, they were passed in their studies, and advanced to the class of the second year.
   The character of John W. Kern was passed, he reported his collections, he was passed in his studies conditioned on Harmons Introduction and Theory of Preaching and advanced to the class of the second year.
   The character of Elsworth W. Wilcox was passed, he reported his collections, he was passed in his studies conditioned on Theory of Preaching and Fishers History, and advanced to the class of the second year.
   The character of Edward T. Antrim was passed, he reported his collections, was passed in his studies conditioned on Exegesis and Mileys Theology.
   The character of Henry H. Burch was passed, he was passed in his studies conditioned on Exegesis, Mileys Theology and Fishers History, and advanced to the class of the second year.
   The character of John F. Poucher was passed, he reported his collections and he was continued on trial in the first year.

   DISCONTINUED. -- On motion of A. Hodgetts, Joseph C. Ingersoll was discontinued.

   ADDRESS. -- Dr. M. B. C. Mason, one of the Secretaries of the Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society, was introduced and gave an address.

   INTRODUCED. -- John McQuoid was introduced and reported his collections.

   COLLECTIONS. -- F. H. Sanderson reported his collections.
   The collections from Pilger charge were reported by A. Hodgetts.

   CONFERENCE EVANGELISTS. -- The committee on Conference Relations reported in the cases of D. W. McGregor and H. L. Powers recommending that they be appointed Conference Evangelists.

   SUPERNUMERARY. -- Also in the case of R. J. Millard recommending that his relation be changed from Effective to Supernumerary, and that be be requested to locate at the next session of this Conference, and on motion of A. Hodgetts the report was adopted.

   VISITORS. -- The following visitors were introduced: James E. Leonard and A. B. Chapin of the West Nebraska Conference.

   RESOLUTION. -- The following resolution was presented by C. O. Larrison and carried unanimously by a rising vote:

   LECTURE -- .

   Resolved, That this Conference and the citizens of Albion express the fullest thanks and hearty appreciation to Bishop C. C. McCabe for the great privilege of hearing his lecture on "The Bright Side of Life in Libby Prison," and assure him that it would give us great pleasure to hear again the ever new and greatest lecture on the American platform.

   The report on Periodicals was adopted and W. W. Shank gave an address in the interest of the Omaha Christian Advocate (see report).

   REPORT OF SECRETARIES. -- The financial report of the Secretaries was referred to the auditing committee.

   SUBSCRIPTIONS for publishing the Journal was made the order of the day immediately after the opening of the next session.

   QUESTION XV was taken up, "Who have died this year?" And the names of W. H. H. Pillsbury and J. T. Crooks were announced.

   QUESTION III was taken up, "Who have been received on Credentials and from what churches?" There were none.

   APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION. -- On motion of C. F. Heywood all applications for admission on trial were referred to the Committee on Conference Relations.

   ADJOURN. -- On motion of A. L. Mickel it was ordered that when we adjourn, it be to meet at 1:30.
   Announcements were made and Conference adjourned with the benediction by Dr. Mason.


AFTERNOON SESSION.

   DEVOTIONAL. -- The Bishop called the Conference to order at 1:30 and H. A. Barton led in prayer.

   REPORTS. -- John F. Poucher reported his collections.
   The following reports were adopted: Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society, District Conference Records, Mother's Jewels Home, Tracts and Sunday Schools.

   SHARES. -- On motion of J. W. Robinson, the shares of stock in the Omaha Christian Advocate owned by the Conference were ordered returned.

   SUBSCRIPTIONS. -- On motion of C. M. Griffith, subscriptions were taken for publishing the minutes.
   On motion of Dr. Maxfield, Wm. Gorst was appointed to collect unpaid subscriptions for last year's minutes.
   On motion of J. W. Jennings, the Secretaries were instructed not to publish names of Sunday School Superintendents in the minutes.

   QUESTION XI was taken up, "What others have been elected and Ordained Deacons?" The following being duly recommended and passing in their studies were recommended to Deacon's Orders: Edmond R. Leedom, Oscar P. Mueller, John W. Kern and John G. Shick.

   VOTE. -- On call for further vote on the Constitutional Amendments the following vote was polled:

   ELIGIBILITY. -- Ayes, 6; noes, 4; making a total of ayes, 65; noes, 11.

   On the second proposition, ayes, 2; noes, 8; making a total of ayes, 25; noes, 51.

   ADDRESS. -- On invitation, James Leonard gave an address concerning the work in the West Nebraska Conference.

   CLOSING. -- Announcements were made and Conference adjourned with benediction by A. B. Chapin.


SATURDAY MORNING SESSION.

   DEVOTIONAL services were led by J. H. Brooks.

   THE BUSINESS session opened promptly at 9 o'clock with the Bishop presiding.

   THE MINUTES of Friday's sessions were read and approved.

   THE TRANSFER of J. W. Kern was announced to the Northwest Nebraska Conference.

   RELATIONS CHANGED. -- The relation of Bartley Blain was changed from Effective to Supernumerary at his own request.
   The relation of J. E. Moore was changed from Effective to Supernumerary at his own request.

   READMITTED. -- On motion of A. Hodgetts, Peter DeClark was readmitted on his Certificate of Location, and on Dr. Hodgetts' further motion he was granted a Location at his own request.

   PARCHMENTS RESTORED. -- The committee on Conference Relations reported in the case of J. W. Buchholz recommending the restoration of his credentials, and on motion of B. Blain the report was adopted.

   SERMON. -- The Bishop announced the appointment of John McQuoid to preach the missionary sermon at our next Annual Conference.

   QUESTION IV was taken up, "Who have been received on trial?"
   The committee on Conference Relations reported in the cases of the following, recommending that they be admitted on trial: Walter L. Elliott, Roddy D. Snyder, Ronald J. McKenzie. Their standings in examination were reported and they were admitted on trial in the studies of the first year.
   The committee also reported favorably in the case of Edmond R. Leedom, his examinations were reported and he was admitted on trial in the studies of the second year.

   The committee also reported favorably in the cases of John G. Shick and George W. Shick, they were passed in their Studies and were required to be examined in Elementary English branches and in United States History, and they were admitted on trial in the studies of the first year.
   The committee also reported favorably in the case of Harry G. Kemp. He was passed in his studies conditioned on United States History, Life of John Wesley, History of American Methodism and Discipline, and admitted on trial in the studies of the first year.

   ADDRESS. -- The following were called forward and addressed by the Bishop, and responded to the usual Disciplinary questions, and were admitted into full connection: Emerson E. Hunt, Wm. A. Rominger, Elmer E. Shafer, Edwin D. Gideon, Cyrus P. Cheeseman and Wm. K. Gray.

   VISITORS. -- The following visitors were introduced: O. J. Nave, Chaplain in the U. S. Army, Acting Chancellor C. M. Ellenwood, Erastus Smith, of the West Nebraska Conference, and R. W. Wilcox, a transfer from the West Nebraska Conference.

   REPORTS. -- The reports of the following committees were adopted: Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Horne, Episcopal Fund, Conference Stewards and Education.

   ADDRESS. -- Pending the adoption of the report on Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Home, C. N. Dawson gave an address, and pending the adoption of the report on Education, Acting Chancellor C. M. Ellenwood gave an address, in which be announced the gift to Nebraska Wesleyan University, of the manuscript of "The Bible Index"' by Chaplain Nave, and on invitation the Chaplain gave an address concerning this great work.

   LOCATION. -- On motion of A. Hodgetts, W. J. Hatheral was granted a location at his own request.

   TRIERS OF APPEALS. -- The Bishop announced the names of the Triers of Appeals as follows: G. W. Martin, C. F. Heywood, J. Crews, G. A. Luce, J. H. Brooks, H. A. Barton, J. W. Jennings, J. B. Carnes and J. B. Leedom.

   BOARD OF EXAMINERS. -- The Bishop appointed the following Board of Examiners: D. C. Winship, C. O. Larrison, G. A. Luce, W. P. Murray, J. W. Jennings, H. C. Myers, C. N. Dawson, Thomas Bithel, G. H. Main, Wm. Esplin, T. C. Webster, L. K.

   TRANSFER. -- The Bishop announced the transfer of O. J. Nave from the North Ohio Conference.

   MEMORIAL. -- The report on Memoirs was adopted and 3 o'clock this afternoon was fixed as the hour for memorial services.

   CLOSING. -- Announcements were made; on motion of J. B. Priest Conference adjourned to meet at 1:30 P. M., the doxology was sung and the benediction was pronounced by Wm. Gorst.


AFTERNOON SESSION.

   OPENING. -- Conference convened pursuant to adjournment at 1:30, with the Bishop presiding and H. L. Powers led in prayer.

   REPORTS. -- The following reports were adopted: Auditing, Missions, Temperance, Church Extension, Freedman's Aid and Southern Education, State of the Church, Sabbath Observance and Epworth League (see reports).

   BOARD OF CHURCH EXTENSION. -- On motion of J. B. Maxfield, the following were elected as Conference Board of Church Extension: J. B. Maxfield, President; A. Hodgetts, Vice President; J. B. Priest, Secretary; L. H. Harmon, Treasurer; H. A. Barton, C. N. Dawson, David Cole, John Toms: Presiding Elders ex-officio members.

   BOARD OF CHURCH LOCATION. -- The following Boards of Church Location were elected: Omaha District - J. W. Robinson, W. P. Murray, L. H. Rogers, Jacob Fawcett; Norfolk District -- E. L. Fowler, J. R. Gearbart, W. A. Harding, J. A. Ehrhardt; Neligh District -- E. T. George, D. Marquette, W. R. Jackson, A. J. Anderson; Grand Island District -- R. C. McReynolds, J. A. Roades, C. T. Smith, D. T. Olcott.

   MISSIONARY SOCIETY. -- On motion of J. W. Shank, a Conferference (sic) Missionary Society was organized with the following officers: N. A. Martin, President; J. M. Bothwell, Vice President; C. N. of Managers. The following District Secretaries were elected: Omaha District -- John P. Yost; Norfolk District -- W. K. Gray; Grand Island District -- A. L. Mickel; Neligh District -- Jobn Crews.

   Additional subscriptions were taken for Conference minutes.

   EDITOR AND PUBLISHER. -- On motion of C. M. Griffith, D. C. Winship was appointed Editor and C. N. Dawson Publisher of the Minutes, with authority to arrange for publication for next year.

   MEMORIAL SERVICE. -- The hour for Memorial service having arrived, the Bishop called J. B. Maxfield to the chair. T. C. Webster offered prayer. Memoirs were read by Wm. Gorst for Mrs. E. O. Elliott, Mrs. J. W. Robinson, W. H. H. Pillsbury and J. T. Crooks, and addresses were made by D. K. Tindall, T. C.

MONDAY.

   Conference convened pursuant to adjournment at 8 o'clock the Bishop presiding, and A. Hodgetts led in prayer.

   THE MINUTES of Saturday's sessions were read and approved.

   REPORTS. -- The following reports were read and adopted: Statistical, Treasurer, Missionary Appropriations and Resolutions, (see reports and statistics).
   Pending the reading of these reports Dr. Maxfield was called to the chair for a short time.

   TRANSFER. -- The Bishop announced that E. D. Gideon is transferred to the Nebraska Conference and stationed at Brainard.

   COLLECTION -- 0n motion of T. C. Clendening a collection of $8.14 was taken for the janitor.

   ADDRESS. -- Dr. Shank made an address in the interest of the Omaha Christian Advocate.

   On motion of A. Hodgetts it was ordered that after the reading of the minutes and the appointments, the Conference stand adjourned, sine die.

   The minutes were read and approved.

   The Bishop gave a short address. The hymn, "'And let our bodies part," was sung, the Bishop led in prayer and read the appointments, and pronounced the benediction, and the Conference stood adjourned.
