FIRST DAY.

Lincoln, Nebraska. Wednesday, September 16, 1903.   

   OPENING. -- The Forty-third Session of the Nebraska Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church was held in St. Paul Church, Lincoln, Nebraska, beginning at 9 a. m., Wednesday, September 16th, 1903, Bishop Edward G. Andrews, D. D., LL. D., presiding.
   The Bishop read the 53rd. chapter of Isaiah, and a portion of the 10th chapter of Hebrews. The 211th hymn beginning,

"When I survey the wondrous cross"

was sung. after which the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered, the Bishop being assisted by the presiding elders and the pastor of St. Paul Church.

   ROLL CALL. -- The secretary of the last conference, Orien W. Fifer, called the roll and 131 members and probationers answered to their names as follows: (See names marked present on roll).

   TRANSFERS. -- The following transfers into the conference were announced: Rufus R. Fletcher, an elder from the Oklahoma conference; Karl W. G. Hiller, a probationer in studies of the second year from the West Nebraska conference; William L. Summers, a probationer in studies of the second year from the Oklahoma conference; and Ulysses S. G. Carroll, an elder from the West Virginia conference.

   SECERETARY. -- On motion of I. S. W. Dean, Orien W. Fifer was elected secretary by standing vote of the conference and authorized to name his assistants. He named J. W. Scott, 0. T. Moore and G. A. Hobson and they were confirmed.

   STATISTICAL SECRETARY. -- On motion of A. 0. Crosthwaite, E. D. Gideon was elected statistical secretary by acclamation and authorized to name his assistants. He named A. M. Perry, C. E. Giwits, H. G. Wilcox, E. L. Barch, D. W. Wilt, I. C. Lemon, H. P. Young, C. E. Ruch, 0. L. Myers, K. W. G. Hiller, and they were approved.

   TREASURER. -- On motion of Richard Pearson, A. C. Crosthwaite was elected treasurer by acclamation and authorized to name his assistants. He named G. M. Jones, L. F. Smith, J. W. Embree and W. B. Alexander, and they were confirmed.

   BAR OF THE CONFERENCE. -- On motion of J. W. Royse the bar of the conference was fixed within the first eight rows of seats from the altar.

   RAILROAD SECRETARY. -- On motion of 0. W. Fifer, D. B. was elected railroad secretary by acclamation.

   POSTMASTER. -- On motion of J. S. W. Dean, A. E. Chadwick was elected postmaster by acclamation.

   STANDING COMMITTEES -- J. R. Gettys for the presiding elders read the following list of standing committees and they were approved: (See Standing Committees.)

   H. T. DAVIS. -- J. F. Kemper read a letter from Henry T. Davis. The conference joined in singing,

"I will sing you a song of that beautiful land,"

   The Bishop and the secretary made reports of their visits to this honored servant of the church. On motion of C. M. Shepherd J. F. Kemper was requested to bear a message of sympathy from the conference to Dr. Davis.

   BIBLE CAUSE. -- On motion of W. B. Alexander a committee was appointed on Bible Cause, the following being nominated by the presiding elders and confirmed. (See Standing Committees.)

   ADDRESSES AND INTRODUCTIONS -- W. E. Grose D. D., of the Book Concern; Claudius B. Spencer D. D., editor of the Central Christian Advocate; and A. P. George of the South West Kansas Conference representing the Sunday School Union and Tract Societies, were introduced and addressed the conference.

   HOURS OF SESSIONS. -- On motion of J. S. W. Dean the hours of the conference sessions were fixed from 8.30 a. m., to 12 m., the first half hour to be spent in devotional exercises.

   DIVIDENDS. -- The Bishop announced dividends to the conference of $758 from the Book Concern and $22 from the Chartered Fund. On motion of T. H. Worley the drafts were ordered.

   COMMUNICATIONS. -- The Bishop presented a number of official communications and they were referred to the proper committees. The report of the book committee was read by the secretary.

   METHODIST REVIEW. -- On motion of J. S. W. Dean, John Calvert was appointed to solicit subscriptions for the Methodist Review.

   SPECIAL COMMITTEE. -- On motion of W. B. Alexander a communication from the trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church was referred to a special committee of three to be appointed by the chair.

   EPISCOPAL FUND. -- The secretary read a communication concerning the Episcopal Fund. The amount apportioned to this conference for the ensuing year was $1,454.

   STATISTICAL SESSION. -- On motion of A. C. Crosthwaite the conference agreed to meet at 2 p. m. for statistical session and to secure subscriptions for publishing the conference minutes, The bishop appointed W. B. Alexander to preside.

hour for the election of delegates to the General Conference was fixed at 11 a. in. Thursday.

   XIII QUESTION. -- The Thirteenth question of the General Minutes was taken up: "Was the character of each preacher examined?"
   The character passed of J. R. Gettys, presiding elder of the Beatrice district and he read his report. The character passed of the following effective elders on the Beatrice district, those present and in charge reporting: D. L. Thomas, E. L. Barch, I. W. Kenagy, Frank Mills, W. H. Mills, W. M. Balch, C. M. Shepherd, P. C. Johnson, Charles Burns, J. W. Lewis, F. IV. Bean, J. W. Stewart, T. D. Hammel, F. M. Esterbrook, G. M. Morey, L. G. Parker, I. L. Lowe.
   The character passed of Richard Pearson, presiding elder of the Hastings district and he read his report. The character passed of the following effective elders on the Hastings district, those present and in charge reporting: L. F. Harmon, E. L. Wolff, E. D. Gideon, C. E. Rowe, J. E. Rippetoe, R. R.    ADDRESS. -- Samuel H. Pye, publishing agent, was introduced and addressed the conference.

   ADJOURNMENT. -- The announcements were made, the doxology was song, and the Bishop pronounced the benediction.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

   OPENING. -- The Conference met at 2 p. m. W. B. Alexander presiding. G. A. Hobson led in prayer. The secretary presented the matter of publishing the conference minutes and called the roll for cash subscriptions.

   STATISTICAL CALL .-- The statistical secretary called the roll and received the statistical reports.

   The benediction was pronounced by W. B. Alexander.



SECOND DAY.

Thursday, September 17th, 1903.

   OPENING. -- The Conference met at 8:30 a. m. J. S. W. Dean conducted the devotional exercises. The secretary called the roll of absentees and the following responded: (See names marked on Conference Roll).

   JOURNAL. -- The Journal of the sessions on Wednesday was read, corrected, and approved.

   STATISTICAL REPORTS. -- The statistical secretary called the roll of charges delinquent in statistical reports.

   SPECIAL COMMITTEE. -- The Bishop appointed J. W. Stewart, John Gallagher, W. M. Worley as the committee on the communication from the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

   RESOLUTION. -- On motion of G. W. Isham the following motion on entertainment of the Annual Conference was adopted (See Resolutions) and referred to a committee consisting of W. M. Balch, U. G. Brown, L. C. Lemon, W. B. Alexander, and G. C. Cobb.

   VII QUESTION. -- The Seventh question of the General Minutes was taken up:

   "Who have been admitted into full membership?

   Irvin C. Lemon, Wm. T. Taylor, Edward M. Furman, Lawrence Yost, Eugene Maxey, Howard P. Young, Karl W. G. Hiller, Ferdinand M. Faith, and William L. Summers were called forward and those present were addressed by the Bishop. They answered the disciplinary questions. The character passed of Irvin C. Lemon, Lawrence Yost, Eugene Maxey. Howard P. Young, Wm. T. Taylor, Karl W. G. Hiller and Ferdinand M. Faith. They were represented by their presiding elders and the board of examiners, admitted into full membership, elected to deacon's orders and advanced to the studies of the third year. The character of Edward M Furman passed and he reported, He was represented by the presiding elder, the board of examiners, admitted into full membership, and advanced to the. studies of the third year. The character passed of William L. Summers and he reported. He was represented by his presiding elder, the board of examiners, continued on trial in the studies of the second year with credit given for all studies completed and with permission to appear for examination in studies of the third year. The character passed of Albert S. Bull. He was represented by J. F. Kemper, and the board of examiners, and satisfactory grades in studies and the proper recommendation having been received from the Kalispel Mission Conference he was admitted into full membership. The character passed of Herbert E. Covell. He was represented by his presiding elder, continued on trial in the studies of the second year, and on motion of J. R. Gettys the Bishop was requested to leave him without appointment to attend some one of our schools. The character passed of William H. Shoaf, and he reported. He was represented by his presiding elder, and continued in the studies of the second Year.

   RESOLUTION. -- On motion of F. D. Gideon the following resolution regarding paragraph 248 of the Discipline was adopted. (See Resolutions.)

   ADDRESS. -- The Rev. W. I. Haven, D. D. corresponding secretary of the American Bible Society was introduced and addressed the conference.

   SPECIAL ORDER. -- The special order of the day was taken up. On motion of T. H. Worley all ballots were ordered counted received on first ballot which contained four or less names.

   GENERAL CONFERENCE DELEGATES. -- The Bishop announced that the conference was entitled to four delegates to the General Conference. The following were appointed tellers: I. W. Kenagy, R. N. Orrill, H. G. Wilcox, J. E. Houlgate, J. T. Roberts J. W. Embree and I. C. Lemon. The vote was taken and the tellers, with J. W. Scott and O. T. Moore, assistant secretaries, retired to count the ballots.

   INTRODUCTION AND ADDRESS. - -The Rev. David Marquette of the North Nebraska Conference was introduced arid addressed the conference concerning the Semi-centennial of Nebraska Methodism. He presented the following resolution as the joint action of the Nebraska Conferences and it was adopted. (See Resolutions).

   INTRODUCTION. -- The Rev. J. W. Robinson of Lucknow, India was introduced to the conference.

   XIII QUESTION. -- The Thirteenth question was resumed. The character passed of J. S. W. Dean, presiding elder of the Nebraska City district and be read his report.

   TIME EXTENDED. -- On motion of A. C. Crosthwaite the time was extended.

   RESULT OF BALLOT. -- The tellers reported and the Bishop announced the result of the first ballot. Whole number of votes cast 137. Necessary to a choice 69. D. W. C. Huntington received 102, John Gallagher 78, Geo. I. Wright 77 and they were declared elected. The second ballot was taken and the tellers with J. W. Scott and O. T. Moore, assistant secretaries, retired to count the vote.

   The Thirteenth question was resumed. The character passed of the following effective elders on the Nebraska City district, those present and in charge reporting: Duke Slavens, B. W. Marsh, D. B. Lake, John Calvert, M. S. Foutch, J. E. Houlgate, P. H. Smith, A. V. Wilson, W. B. Alexander, J. H. N. Cobb, C. L. Myers, J. W. Scott, Wm. Van Buren, Asa Sleeth, G. M. Jones, W. M. Morrow, A. W. Shamel, A. E. Chadwick, F. P. Blakemore, H. W. Cope, T. H. Worley.

   INTRODUCTION. -- The Rev. J. B. Trimble, Field Secretary of the Missionary Society and the Rev. G. A. Maston of the Lincoln Conference were introduced.

   The announcements were made and the committees were called. The Conference joined in singing "Am I a soldier of the cross."

   On motion of A. C. Crosthwaite the apportionment of the Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society was referred to the presiding elders for distribution.

   RESULT OF BALLOT. -- The tellers reported the result of the second ballot. Whole number of ballots cast 131. Necessary to a choice 66 and there was no election.

   On motion of J. H. Presson the further balloting was ordered renewed at 10 a. in. Friday.

   ADJOURNMENT. -- On motion of W. B. Alexander the Conference adjourned, the Bishop pronouncing the benediction.



THIRD DAY.

Friday, September 18th, 1903.   

   OPENING. -- The Conference met at 8:30 a. in The devotional exercises were conducted by W. H. Prescott. The Journal of the session on Thursday was read, corrected, and approved.

   HENRY T. DAVIS. -- The secretary announced the death of Henry T. Davis which occurred at 3:30 a. in. that morning. The conference joined in singing the hymns beginning, "Blest Be the Tie that Binds," and "There Is a Land of Pure Delight." The Bishop led in prayer. F. L. Wharton briefly addressed the Conference concerning his last visit to Dr. Davis. On motion of W. B. Alexander the secretary was requested to convey to Mrs. Davis the sympathy of the conference.

   STEWARD'S REPORT. -- P. C. Johnson read the preliminary report of the Board of Stewards.

   RAILROAD SECRETARY. -- On motion of O. W. Fifer, J. W. Royse was appointed railroad secretary in place of D. B. Lake who was called home.

   SUPERANNUATES FUND. -- On motion of J. R. Gettys the plan for a Superannuates Fund adopted in 1902 was referred to the following committee with instuctions (sic) to report at this conference: P. C. Johnson, U. G. Brown, L. C. Lemon, John Calvert, O. W. Fifer.

   SEMI-CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE. -- The following committee on the semi-centennial of Nebraska Methodism was announced: Wm. Worley, W. B. Alexander, John Gallagher, D. L. Thomas, A. C. Crosthwaite.

   CHANGE IN COMMITTEE. -- On motion of J. S. W. Dean, B. W. Marsh was placed on the Temperance Committee in place of J. W. Scott, assistant secretary.

   RESOLUTION. on motion of W. M. Balch the following resolution was unanimously adopted recommending A. E. Chadwick as postmaster of the next General Conference. (See Resolutions.)

   ADDRESS. -- The Rev. W. E. Grose D. D. of the Book Concern and the Rev. J. B. Trimble, field secretary of the Missionary Society addressed the conference.

   THIRD BALLOT. -- The tellers reported and the result of the third ballot was announced. Total number of votes cast 124, necessary to a choice, 63. There was no election. The fourth ballot was taken and the tellers retired with J. W. Scott to count the vote.

   SPECIAL SUBSCRIPTION. -- On motion of J. F. Kemper, Geo. C. Cobb was appointed to canvass for subscriptions for the support of a missionary in the Philippine Islands.

   XIII QUESTION. -- The XIII question was resumed. The character passed of Geo. I. Wright, presiding elder of the York District, and he read his report.

   FOURTH BALLOT. -- The tellers reported and the result of the fourth ballot was announced. Total number of votes cast 120. Necessary to a choice 61. There was no election. The fifth ballot was taken and the tellers retired with J. W. Scott to count the vote.

   The character passed of the following effective elders on the York district, those present and in charge reporting: E. S. Burr, J. R. Woodcock, C. B. Lenfest, F. N. Colony, M. A. Wimberley, M. R.    RESOLUTION AND SPECIAL ORDER. -- J. R. Woodcock offered a resolution concerning consolidation of benevolences and unification of publishing houses. On motion of W. B. Alexander it was made the special order for 10 a. in. Saturday.

   V. QUESTION. -- The Fifth question of the General Minutes was taken up.

   "Who have been continued on trial?"

   The character passed of Ernest A. Totten and Bernard N. Kunkel and they reported. They were represented by their presiding elders and the board of examiners, continued on trial and advanced to the studies of the second year. The character passed of Fulton Q. McVay and John R. Martin and they reported. They were represented by their presiding elders and the board of Examiners, continued on trial in the studies of the first year with credit for the studies completed.

   IX QUESTION. -- The Ninth question of the General Minutes was taken up:

   "What members are in the studies of the fourth year?"

   The character passed of Dorah W. Wilt, Oscar L. Burres. J. A. Branson, Eugene F. Gates and those present reported. They were represented by their presiding elders, and the board of examiners, and advanced to the studies of the fourth year.

   The character passed of Charles D. Metcalf and he reported. He was represented by his presiding elder, the board of examiners, and advanced to the studies of the fourth year subject to the requirements of the board of examiners. The character passed of William W. Hull and Merrill C. Brooks and they reported. They were represented by their presiding elders and the board of examiners and continued in the studies of the third year with credit for studies completed.

   RESULT OF BALLOT. -- The tellers reported and the result of the sixth ballot was announced. Total number of votes cast 128. Nessessary to a choice 65. There was no election. The seventh ballot was taken and the tellers retired with J. W. Scott to count the vote.

   X QUESTION. -- The Tenth question of the General Minutes was taken up:

   "What members have completed the conference course of study?"

   The character passed of Charles E. Ruch, Marvin E. Gilbert, Geo. Wash, Geo. W. Ayers, Henry Zinnecker, Herbert V. Price, Ward L. Austin and they reported. They were represented by their presiding elders and the board of examiners, passed in the conference course of study and elected to elder's orders. The character passed of James A. Rousey and he reported. He was represented by his presiding elder and

the board of examiners and continued in the studies of the fourth year with credit for the studies completed.

   On motion of G. I. Wright the Bishop was requested to leave Charles E. Ruch without appointment to attend some one of our schools. The character passed of Henry F. Smith. On motion of J. S. W. Dean be was granted a certificate of location at his own request.

   RESULT OF BALLOT. -- The tellers reported and the result of the seventh ballot was announced. Total number of votes cast 119. Necessary to a choice 60. George W. Isham received 61 and was declared elected.

   BALLOT FOR RESERVES. -- On motion of G. W. Abbott the Conference agreed that the two persons receiving the highest number of votes for reserves on the next ballot should be declared elected reserve delegates. The ballot was taken and the tellers with J. W. Scutt retired to count the vote.

   INTRODUCTION AND ADDRESS. -- Mrs. Allie P. McLaughlin of the Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Home was introduced and addressed the conference.

   TIME EXTENDED. -- On motion of G. I. Wright time was extended.

   CONFERENCE RELATIONS. -- On motion of G. I Wright the case of Moses Anderson was referred to the committee on conference relations.

   RESOLUTION. -- On motion of G. M. Gates the following report concerning the Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Home was adopted. (See Report of Commitees (sic).)

   RESULT OF BALLOT. -- The tellers reported and the result of the ballot for reserve delegates was announced. W. M. Balch received 52 and J. S. W. Dean received 28. They were declared elected.

   ADJOURNMENT. -- On motion of A. C. Crosthwaite the Conference adjourned.

   The committees were called, the announcements were made, the doxology was sung and Bishop Andrews pronounced the benediction.


FOURTH DAY.

Saturday September 19, 1903.   

   OPENING. -- The Conference met at 8:30 a. m. F. M. Esterbrook conducted the devotional services. The Journal of the session on Friday was read, corrected and approved.

   BOARD OF EXAMINERS. -- The Bishop announced the appointment of the following as members of the Conference Board of Exam-

   XXII QUESTION. -- The Twenty-second question of the General Minutes was taken up:

   "Who are the supernumerary preachers?"

   The character passed of N. J. Chrysler, George Shuman, A. P. Bull, Francis Deal, R. A. Barnes, J. G. Day and they were continued in the supernumerary relation. The character passed of A. W. Coffman, H. B. Seymour, J. G. Walker. H. G. Claycomb and W. W. McGwire. They were made effective on motion of their respective presiding elders. The character passed of C. W. Wells and on motion of Richard Pearson he was granted the superanuate relation. On motion of J. R. Gettys, I. W. Kenagy, was granted the supernumerary relation.

   IV QUESTION.--The Fourth question of the General Minutes was taken up.

   "Who have been received on trial?"

   Recommendations were read as follows: Edgar J. Warren front the Centenary quarterly conference, Beatrice district; Otis Hinson from the Daykin quarterly conference. Beatrice district; Earle N. Tompkins from the Prosser quarterly conference, Hastings district; Royal D. Waterman from the York district conference. They were introduced to the conference, represented by their presiding elders, the board of examiners and admitted on trial.

   III QUESTION. -- The Third question of the General Minutes was taken up.

   "Who have been received on credentials and from what churches?

   J. F. Kemper presented the papers of Charles E. Austin a probationer in studies of first year and local deacon from the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He was introduced to the conference and on motion of J. F. Kemper he was received on trial and placed in the studies of the first year.

   XXIII QUESTION. -- The Twenty-third question Of the General Minutes was taken up.

   "Who are the superannuated preachers?"

   The character passed of the following preachers and they were continued in the superannuated relation. Those present and so desiring, addressed the conference: A. L. Folden, G. W. Selby, Wm. Adams expressing sympathy over the death of his wife. The report of the committee on conference relations in the case of Moses Anderson was read and adopted. (See Reports of Committees.)

   FUNERAL OF H. T. DAVIS. -- On motion of A. C. Crosthwaite the conference agreed upon the hour of 10 a. m. Monday as the time for the funeral services of H. T. Davis. The committee on memoirs was requested to prepare suitable memoir for reading Sunday afternoon and for publication in the Minutes this year.

   INTRODUCTION AND ADDRESS. -- Burwell Spurlock, Superintendent of the Mother's Jewels' Home at York, was introduced and addressed the conference. On motion of J. F. Kemper the following resolution as amended on motion of J. S. W. Dean was adopted concerning the Mother's Jewels' Home and its superintendents. (See Resolutions.)

   MEMOIRS. -- On motion of J. H. Presson, P. P. Carroll was added to the committee on memoirs.

   SPECIAL ORDER. -- On motion of J. M. Darby the special order was taken up. The resolution concerning consolidation of benevolences and unification of publishing houses was read again by the secretary. After extended discussion, On motion of F. P.    ''Where shall the next Conference be held?"

   D. L. Thomas presented an invitation from Centenary Church, Beatrice, and on motion of F. L. Wharton it was accepted unanimously.

   OFFICIAL RECORDS. -- On motion of O. W. Fifer the printed copies of the Minutes during the quadrennium ending with this year, were made the official records of the conference.

   MINISTERS VETERAN ASSOCIATION. -- On motion of G. I. Wright, the secretary was instructed to print in the Minutes the proceedings of the Ministers Veteran Association.

   On motion of A. C. Crosthwaite the secretary was authorized to edit all reports for publication in the Minutes.

   CONFERENCE EVANGELIST. -- On motion of J. F. Kemper the Conference requested the Bishop to appoint four conference evangelists.

   EXCUSED. -- J. G. Stanard and Duke Slavens were excused from further attendance upon the conference sessions.

   REPORT OF COMMITTEES. -- The reports of the following committees were read and adopted (See Reports of Committees), Episcopal Fund, Temperance, Special Committee on Board of Trustees.

   ADJOURNMENT.--The committees were called, the announcements were made, and the Bishop pronounced the benediction.

Sunday. September 20, 1903.   

   LOVE FEAST. -- The Conference Love Feast at 9:30 a. m. was led by Jeptha Marsh.

   SERMON. -- At 10:30 a. m. Bishop Andrews preached from Mathew 16th chapter and a portion of the 18th verse "I will build my church."

   ORDINATION SERVICES. -- At 2:30 ordination services were held. The Bishop ordained as deacons, Irvin C. Lemon, Lawrence Yost, Eugene Maxey, Howard P. Young, Karl W. G. Hiller, Ferdinand M. Faith, William T. Taylor and, assisted by the presiding elders the folowing (sic) as elders: Charles E. Ruch, Marvin E. Gilbert, George Wash, George W. Ayers, Henry Zinnecker, Herbert V. Price, Ward L. Austin.

   MEMORIAL SERVICES. -- Memorial services were held at 3:30 p. m.

   Memoirs of Mrs. R. G. Adams, Mrs. Mary G. Stewart, Elias J. Randall and Henry T. Davis were read by J. H. Presson. G. M. Jones and A. M. Perry made addresses upon E. J. Randall. D. L. Thomas and O. W. Fifer spoke words of appreciation of Mrs. Stewart. N. A. Martin and Hiram Burch gave tributes to H. T. Davis.



SIXTH DAY.

Monday, September 21, 1903.   

   OPENING. -- The Conference met at 8:30 a. m. J. W. Stewart led the devotional services. The Journal of Saturday was read, corrected, and approved.

   MEMOIRS. -- On motion of O. W. Fifer the memoirs read on Sunday were adopted.

   COMMITTEE REPORTS. -- The reports of the following committees were read and adopted: Periodicals, Sunday Schools, Tracts, Education, Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society, Deaconess Board, District Conference Records, Church Extension, Auditing, Woman's Home Missionary Society, Woman's Foreign Missionary Society.    INTRODUCTON AND ADDRESS. -- The Rev. W. P. Thirkield was introduced and addressed the conference.

   CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE. -- The report of the centennial committee was read and on motion of J. S. W. Dean was deferred until the afternoon session.

   COMMUNICATION FROM THE WEST NEBRASKA CONFERENCE. -- A communication from the West Nebraska Conference was read and the following resolution adopted. (See Resolutions).

   BOARD OF STEWARDS. -- The report of the board of stewards as read by P. C. Johnson was adopted.

   STATISTICAL SECRETARY AND TREASURER. -- The statistical secretary and the treasurer read their reports and they were received by the conference.

   ADJOURNMENT. -- The Conference adjourned until 1 p. m.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

   OPENING.--The Conference met at 1 p. m. L. C. Lemon offered prayer. The Journal of the morning session was read and approved.

   The reports of the following committees were read and adopted:
   Bible Cause, Missions, Conference Entertainment, Church Federation, Resolutions. (See Reports of Committees).

   MEMORIAL. -- On motion of J. H. Presson the following commitee appointed by the Bishop was requested to prepare a suitable memoir of H. T. Davis for publication in the Minutes this year: -- N. A. Martin. Hiram Burch, W. M. Worley.

   TRANSFER -- J. C. Jewell was introduced to the conference and the Bishop announced that he was transferred from the Detroit to this conference.

   SUPERANNUATE CENTENNIAL FUND. -- The report of the committee on the Superannuate Semi-Centennial Fund was taken up. On motion of W. B. Alexander the report was amended and adopted. (See Reports of Committees.) The following persons were appointed trustees in accordance with the recommendations of the report: D. L. Thomas, A. C. Crosthwaite, L. C. Lemon. W. B. Alexander, C. B. Lenfest.

   COLLECTION. -- On motion of John Gallagher a collection which amounted to $22.61 was taken to help defray incidental expenses of David Marquette, secretary of the Semi-Centennial and Superannuate Fund.

   ANTI-SALOON LEAGUE. -- In accordance with the report of the committee on temperance, C. M. Shepherd and B. W. Marsh were appointed delegates to the annual convention of the Anti-Saloon League and W. M. Balch was appointed member of the National Board of Directors.

   CONFERENCE EVANGELISTS. -- On motion of their presiding, elders by unanimous vote of the conference the Bishop was requested to appoint as Conference Evangelists, Lewis F. Smith, William H. Prescott, Walter K. Williams and Francis A. Campbell.

   VOUCHERS. -- On motion of G. I. Wright, the vouchers remaining in the hands (if the treasurer were ordered given to the presiding elders for distribution.

   NOMINATIONS. -- J. R. Gettys for the presiding elders read the following nominations and they were confirmed, (See Conference and Committees.)

   On motion of J. S. W. Dean, after devotional exercises, the reading of the Journal and the announcement of the appointments the Conference agreed to adjourn sine die.

   The Journal was read and approved. Bishop Andrews offered, prayer, briefly addressed the Conference, read the list of appointments. and pronounced the benediction.
