First Day, Wednesday--Morning Session

Lincoln, Nebraska, September 17, 1913

   The first session of the Nebraska Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church met in Grace Church, Lincoln, Nebraska, Wednesday, September 17, 1913, with Bishop Frank M. Bristol, D. D., LL. D., presiding.

   Opening.--At 9 o'clock a. m. R. N. Orrill announced hymn No. 461 of the Hymnal, beginning, "How Firm a Foundation," and the Bishop assisted by the District Superintendents, administered the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. B. F. Gaither announced hymn No. 560, beginning "And Are We Yet Alive;" E. T. George read the 84th Psalm, and N. A. Martin led in prayer. Hymn No. 144, "Never Farther From Thy Cross," was announced by J. W. Embree.

   The Bishop stated that under the Enabling Act passed by the last General Conference, the Nebraska Annual Conference, formed by the union of the Nebraska, North Nebraska and West Nebraska Conferences, was now complete.

   Roll Call.--O. T. Moore, W. A. Rominger and H. S. French, Secretaries of the Nebraska, North Nebraska and West Nebraska Conferences, called the rolls of their respective Conferences and two hundred ninety-four full members and twenty probationers responded. (See Roll.) The secretaries announced that the new conference has an aggregate of four hundred seventy-six members and probationers.

   The conference stood while the secretaries called the names of the following brethren who have. died during the year: Jeptha Marsh, D. C. Brannon, J. H. Beery, C. A. Mastin, J. H. Thomas, R. L. Robinson, Morris Bamford, D. F. Rodabaugh, and W. C. Swartz. The Bishop led in the singing of the second verse of hymn No. 556, "When We Asunder Part."'

   Gavel.--O. T. Moore delivered to the Bishop a gavel, made of olive wood taken from the Mount of Olives at Jerusalem, and presented in 1909 to the old Nebraska Conference by Ralph Koch of the United States navy.

   Organization.--A. A. Randall and E. M. Furman were nominated for Secretary. On motion of M. E. Gilbert the conference balloted on these names. The Bishop appointed as tellers M. E. Gilbert, T. H. Worley, W. B. Alexander and G. 1. Wright. The ballot resulted in the election of E. M. Furman.

ference was fixed to include the main floor of the auditorium of the church.

   Introduction and Address.--Geo. P. Mains, Publishing Agent of the New York branch of the Methodist Book Concern, was introduced and adressed (sic) the Conference in the interest of the Book Concern and the Episcopal Fund.

   Officers.--On nomination of the District Superintendents H. G. Langley was elected Treasurer and named his assistants, as follows: H. C. Seidel, J. P. Yost, H. F. Huntington, H. W. Cope, O. G. H. Miles, R. N. Throckmorton, Henry Martens, J. W. Crist, E. L. Baker, B. A. Cram, A. E. Murlless, C. M. McCorkle.

   E. M. Furman nominated for assistant secretaries A. A. Randall, W. S. Porter, G. B. Warren and E. B. Maxey.

   Committees.--E. E. Hosman, secretary of the District Superintendents, read the changes in the list of committees and these changes were ordered made. (See Standing Committees.)

   Time of Sessions.--On motion of N. A. Martin the time of opening the conference was fixed at 8:30 a. m., and the closing at 12 o'clock, the first thirty minutes to be given to devotional services.

   Reporter.--On motion of E. E. Hosman, J. F. Poucher was appointed reporter for the Central Christian Advocate.

   Statistical Session.--On motion of N. A. Martin it was ordered that when we adjourn we adjourn (sic) to meet at 2 o'clock p. m., for the statistical session.

   Question 14.--Question Fourteen of the General Minutes, "Was the character of each preacher examined?" was taken up. The character of Superintendent N. A. Martin of the Central District, J. W. Embree of the East District, and R. N. Orrill of the South District was passed and they read their reports. (See Superintendents' Reports.)

   Publishing Commission.--On motion of E. E. Hosman the name of E. M. Furman was added to the Commisison (sic) on Publishing the Minutes.

   Postmaster.--On motion of B. W. Marsh, A. E. Chadwick was elected Conference Postmaster.

   Appointment.--The Bishop appointed F. M. Sisson to preside at the statistical session.

   Drafts.--The Bishop announced drafts from the Book Concern and Chartered Fund as follows: To Nebraska Conference from the Chartered Fund, $30; from the Book Concern to Nebraska Conference, $2,621; to the North Nebraska Conference $1,779; to the West Nebraska Conference $1,467. On motion of J. B. Priest they were received with thanks and ordered paid to the Treasurer of the Conference Board of Stewards.

   Closing.--Announcements were made, and on motion of E. B. Maxey the conference adjourned, T. H. Worley pronouncing the Benediction.

  

 AFTERNOON SESSION

   At 2 p. m. the statistical session was called to order with F. M. Sisson in the chair. After singing hymn No. 91, beginning, "Guide, me, O thou great Jehovah," M. E. Gilbert led in prayer.

   Samuel H. Kirkbride, Secretary of the American Bible Society was introduced and addressed the Conference in the interests of that society.

   On motion of the conference treasurer, the statistics were handed in according to arranged plan. Charles Strader, chairman of the entertainment committee addressed the conference and made announcement of privileges to be extended to the conference.

   Announcements were made and on motion of T. H. Worley the conference adjourned with the benediction by James Leonard.



SECOND DAY
   Thursday, September 18, 1913


   The conference met at 8:30 o'clock. The first half hour was spent in devotional services, Dr. H. F. Rall of the Iliff School of Theology in charge. He used as the basis of his address Paul's letter to Philemon.

   Opening.--At 9:00 o'clock Bishop Bristol took the chair and the secretary read the Journal of yesterday's sessions which was corrected and approved.

   Delinquents.--The Statistical Secretary called the roll of charges delinquent in their statistics. On motion of T. H. Worley the Statistical Secretaries were authorized to insert last year's figures on membership and church property for such charges as do not make report.

land, E. T. George of the Neligh, E. E. Hosman of the Norfolk, Edward Hislop of the Omaha, J. W. Morris of the Holdrege, R. P. Hamons of the Kearney and B. F. Gaither of the North Platte were passed and they read their reports. (See Superintendents' Reports.)

   The characters of all the effective elders of the conference were passed except those of W. J. Miller and J. W. Seabrook.

   Form of Reports.--At the request of the Bishop it was ordered that in addition to the usual disciplinary reports, the pastors state the number of accessions to the church and the increase in subscriptions to the Central Christian Advocate.

   Introductions and Addresses.--Claudius B. Spencer, Editor Central Christian Advocate; Alpha G. Kynett, Recording Secretary of the Board of Home Missions and Church Extension; James T. Docking; President of Rush University, representing the Freedman's Aid Society; Matthew J. Trenery, Superintendent of Methodist Sunday Schools in Wisconsin; J. R. Woodcock, President of Iowa Training School and Bidwell Deaconess Home; Clyde C. Cissell of the Manhatten District of the Kansas Conference, and W. J. Davidson, Professor in Garrett Biblical Institute, were introduced.

   Claudius B. Spencer, Alpha G. Kynett, James T. Docking and W. J. Davidson addressed the conference.

   Time Extended.--On motion of E. M. Furman the time was extended.

   Excused.--On motion of J. M. Bothwell, J. F. Webster was excused from further attendance at the conference.

   Closing.--On Motion of W. S. Porter it was ordered that when we adjourn we adjourn to meet at 1:30 p. m. The announcements were made and on motion of J. C. Street the conference adjourned with the benediction by C. B. Spencer.

  

 AFTERNOON SESSION

   The Bishop called the conference to order at 1:30 and led in singing hymn 291, beginning "There is a fountain." W. B. Alexander led in prayer.

   Reports.--On motion of Edward Hislop the effective elders among the statisticians and treasurers were called in, made their reports, and were excused.

   Prorating.--On motion of F. C. McVay the report of the Conference Commissioners, on prorating traveling expenses was adopted, the supernumerary and retired preachers being excepted from its conditions.

   Order of Day.--On motion of G. W. Isham the report of the commission on publication of the minutes was made the order of the day immediately after the reading of the minutes tomorrow morning.

   Committee.--On motion of H. H. Millard the following committee, consisting of one from each of the districts with M. E. Gilbert as chairman, was appointed for prorating of expenses and securing signatures to expense blanks: South district, F. O. Winslow; Central, Harry Royse; West, J. D. M. Buckner; East, A. E. Chadwick; Omaha, C. N. Dawson; Neligh, V. R. Beebe; Grand Island, C. W. Ray; Holdrege, H. M. Pinckney; North Platte, R. M. Rush; Norfolk, H. H. Millard; Kearney, C. C. Wilson.

   Excused.--On motion of R. N. Orrill, J. M. Darby was excused from further attendance.

   Substitute.--On motion of E. E. Hosman, the name of A. S. Buell was substituted on the committee on prorating for that of H. H. Millard.

   Insurance.--On motion of O. T. Moore the following committee was appointed on Insurance: T. H. Worley, L. R. DeWolf, E. J. T. Connely, O. W. Rummell, M. B. Carman.

   Adjourned.--Announcements were made and on motion of J. M. Bothwell the conference adjourned, C. M. Shepherd announcing the Benediction.



THIRD DAY
Friday, September 19, 1913

   Conference met at 8:30 a. in. with devotional services conducted by Dr. H. F. Rall of Iliff School of Theology, who commented on the Book of First Thessalonians.

   At 9:00 o'clock the Bishop took the chair and lead in singing of the hymn beginning "He Leadeth Me."

   Journal.--The secretary read the journal of yesterday's sessions and it was corrected and approved.

   Question 1.--Question one, "Is this Annual Conference incorporated according to the requirements of the discipline?" was called. It is not.

   Order of Day.--The order of the day, the report of the commissioners on Publication of the Minutes, was taken up and G. W. Isham presented the report. On his motion the report was adopted. The superintendents: were asked to appoint a committee of one from each

district to distribute envelopes and collect the funds. They appointed the following: West Distrct (sic), B. F. Hutchins; South, G. R. Newkirk; Central, J. D. Hollister; East, W. P. Slocum; Neligh, E. E. Bowen; Norfolk, J. B. Roe; North Platte, Alfred Chamberlain; Omaha, T. C. Webster; Holdrege, R. N. Throckmorton; Kearney, D. A. Leeper; Grand Island, G. M. Bing.

   Wesley Chapel.--B. W. Marsh offered a resolution authorizing the removal of Wesley Chapel on the Phillips charge to Murphy, or the sale of same. It was so ordered. (See resolution.)

   Introductions and Address.--J. R. Woodcock and Thomas Nicholson, Secretary of the Board of Education, were introduced and J. R. Woodcock addressed the conference.

   Non-Connectional Causes.--On motion of E. E. Hosman a committee of one from each district was appointed to consider such non-connectional causes as may desire to appeal to the churches of this conference. The following were appointed: E. J. T. Connely, A. J. Clifton, V. C. Wright, C. O. Trump, Wm. VanBuren, J. P. Yost, G. F. Francombe, Wm. Boyers, J. A. Rousey, M. B. Carman, D. A. Leeper.

   Free Minutes.--On motion of C. L. Myers the secretary was ordered to send a copy of the minutes to each of the conference claimants.

   Question 11.--Question eleven,. "What members have completed the conference course of study?" was taken up.

   The character of each of the following was passed, they made their reports, the registrars announced their grades, they were represented by their superintendent, and on their motion graduated from the course of study and elected to Elder's orders: Thomas C. Priestly, Henry W. Wagner, Earl E. Bowen, Vincent R. Beebe, J. Joel Burke, Charles F. Innis, Grover C. Albin, Ralph M. Fagan, Charles F. Luscher.

   Edgar V. Price, Arthur A. King, Kingston P. Kilbourn, Frederick E. Kirby, and Oren F. Cheseboro were continued in studies of the fourth year.

   Question 10.--Question ten, "What members are in the studies of the fourth year?" was called. The character of the following was passed, they gave their reports, the registrar announced their grades, they were represented by their superintendents, and on their motion advanced to the studies of the fourth year: John W. Davis, John W. Bair, John A. Murray, Emmet C. Mitchell, Harvey C. Barrett, James R. Smith, Kent H. Clifton, Joseph J. Christner.

   John D. Hollister, George E. McClure and Edgar G. Hibbens were advanced to the studies of the fourth year subject to the requirements of the examining board, with instructions to make up their studies during the year.

Koontz, Robert J. Callow, Clarence V. Powell, and Alfred Chamberlain, were continued in the studies of the third year and instructed to complete their work during the year.

   William F. Harper, Max A. Jeffords, George H. Wise, and Paul B. Wright were continued in studies of the third year and referred to the committee on conference relations.

   Referred.--Joseph H. Smith's case was referred to the committee on conference relations without any action.

   Delinquents.--On motion of J. D. M. Buckner, substituted for one by T. H. Worley, it was ordered that hereafter when under-graduates fail to make up their work their cases be referred to the district superintendents, with instructions to report on the first day of the conference session.

   Introductions and Addresses.--Thomas Nicholson, and Vice-Chancellor I. B. Schreckengast and Chancellor C. A. Fulmer of the Nebraska Wesleyan University addressed the conference in the interest of the university.

   K. A. Stromberg, Superintendent of Eastern District of the West Swedish Conference, was introduced and addressed the conference regarding the adjustment of Swedish and English work within the bounds of the conference.

   O. J. Nave addressed the conference and presented a resolution concerning the army and navy.

   Joseph B. Hingeley, corresponding secretary of the board of conference claimants, was introduced and addressed the conference, presenting a draft of $450 from that board for the retired preachers of the conference.

   Mrs. Bishop Bristol and Miss Ella Watson were introduced and Miss Watson addressed the conference in the interests of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society.

   Time Extended.--On motion of E. M. Furman the time was extended.

   Adjustment of Work.--At the request of K. A. Stromberg the following were appointed as a commission from this conference to act with a similar commission from the Swedish church in the adjustment of the English and Swedish work: J. R. Gettys, L. Morrison, C. L. Anderson, A. L. Umpleby, J. M. Wingett, J. A. Martin, Henry Zinnecker, W. N. Wallis, E. B.. Maxey, C. E. Ruch and A. O. Hinson.

   Army and Navy.--On motion of O. J. Nave his resolution concerning the needs of the army and navy was referred to a committee composed of J. R. Gettys, G. W. Isham, O. T. Moore, F. M. Sisson and M. B. Carman.

   Draft.--On motion of A. A. Randall the draft of $450 presented by Dr. J. B. Hingeley was accepted with thanks and ordered paid to the treasurer of the conference board of Stewards.

MINUTES, 1913 Session

   Nebraska Wesleyan University.--I. B. Schreckengast presented a resolution in the interest of increased endowment for the Nebraska Wesleyan University and on his motion it was adopted.

   Bohemian Work.--On motion of R. N. Orrill, G. W. Isham, Karl J. Sladek, J. R. Gettys, G. M. Bing, and R. F. Farley were constituted a committee on Bohemian work.

   Change.--On motion of E. E. Hosman the name of Nathan English was substituted for that of C. C. Wilson on the committee for prorating expenses.

   Closing.--Announcements were made and the conference adjourned on motion of E. B. Maxey, Titus Lowe of the Upper Iowa Conference pronouncing the benediction.



FOURTH DAY
Saturday, September 20, 1913

   Conference met at 8:30, Dr. Rall in charge of devotional services speaking on the Thirteenth Chapter of First Corinthians. At 9:00 o'clock the Bishop took the chair and led in the singing of the hymn beginning "Come Thou Fount of every Blessing."

   Journal.--The Journal of yesterday's session was read and approved.

   Reconsideration.--On motion of E. T. George the resolution passed yesterday authorizing the removal or sale of Wesley Chapel on the Phillips charge was reconsidered, and amended on motion of G. I. Wright. (See resolutions.)

   Question 12.--Question twelve, "What others have been elected and ordained deacons?" was called. There are none.

   Question 13.--Question thirteen, "What others have been elected and ordained elders?" was taken up. There are none.

   Question 9.--Question nine, "What members are in studies of the third year?" was asked. The Bishop called the following brethren forward and asked the usual disciplinary questions of those who are admitted into full membership: Wm. O. Harrell, Wm. Kilburn, M. Allen Keith, Pearl D. Cox, Albert J. Kellow, George H. Phillips, Wm. O. Romick, Andrew F. Niemann, Samuel E. Taft, John W. Crist, Lemuel R. Hansberry, John W. Paxton, Harry C. Burrows, Richard Gibbs, George W. Hylton, Harvey Anderson, Edward L. Baker and Harry G. Parker.

   Question 8.--Question eight, "Who have been admitted into full membership?" was taken up.

sentation by and on motion of their respective superintendents they were admitted into full membership, elected to deacon's orders and advanced to the studies of the third year: Wm. O. Harrell, Wm. Kilburn, M. Allen Keith, Pearl D. Cox, Albert J. Kellow, George H. Phillips, Wm. O. Romick, John W. Crist, Lemuel R. Hansberry, John W. Paxton, Harry C. Burrows, and Richard Gibbs.

   George W. Hylton and Harvey Anderson were admitted into full membership and advanced to the studies of the third year, having previously been ordained deacons.

   Charles C. Gorst, Charles G. Cole, Bradford T. Fisk, Benj A. Alexander, and Willie S. Sanders were continued on trial and advanced to the studies of the third year.

   Oscar W. Reynolds was continued on trial and advanced to the studies of the third year subject to the requirements of the examining board.

   Charles S. McClure was continued on trial in studies of the third year.

   Andrew F. Niemann was admitted into full membership, elected to deacon's orders and advanced to the studies of the fourth year.

   Edward L. Baker was admitted into full membership and advanced to the studies of the fourth year having been previously ordained deacon.

   Harry G. Parker, Samuel E. Taft, and Wilfrid N. Wallis were admitted into full membership, graduated from the course of study, and elected to elder's orders.

   John H. Craven was discontinued.

   Question 4.--Question four, "Who have been received on credentials and from what churches?" was taken up. Robert C. Daugherty was received on credentials from the Missionary Baptist church and placed in the studies of the third year, his orders being reorganized as deacon's orders.

   Excused.--On motion of B. W. Marsh, J. W. Davis was excused from further attendance.

   Minutes.--On motion of E. M. Furman the secretaries were authorized to edit the material for minutes.

   Question 6.--Question six, "Who have been continued on trial?" was taken up. The character of each of the following was passed, they gave their reports, the registrars announced their grades, and on motion of their respective superintendents they were continued on trial and advanced to the studies of the second year: Edward F. Clower, Henry F. Martens, Charles E. Catlett, Albert H. Eggleston, George A. Bolas, Merle C. Smith, Wm. H. Guest.

   Greetings.--On motion of H. C. Seidel the secretary wag instructed to send the greetings of the conference to the Nebraska Synod of the Lutheran church now in session in this city.

   Question 5.--Question five, "Who have been received on trial?" was called. The following were properly recommended by various district and quarterly conferences, the registrars reported their grades, they were recommended by the committee on conference relations, and on motion of their respective superintndents (sic) were admitted on trial and passed to the studies of the first year: Harold J. Armitage, John W. Williams, Wm. H. Gardner, M. Wayne Pickerel, Frank E. Sala, Clyde E. Green, Roland E. Martin, Lawrence R. McGaughey, John D. Walker, Rex O. Smith, and George A. Morey.

   Question 32.--Question thirty-two, "Where shall the next conference be held?" was taken up. F. M. Sisson presented an invitation from the church at Fremont, and on motion of C. E. Ruch it was accepted.

   Question 23.--Question twenty-three, "Who are the supernumerary preachers?" was called. The character of each of the following was passed, they were duly represented and continued in the supernumerary relation: G. W. Ayers, D. W. Wilt, T. A. Hull, P. H. Smith, E. F. Gates, G. A. Luce, N. M. Sommerville, T. M. Ransom, A. G. McVay, D. W. Crane, F. L. Schank, E. E. Crippen, and John Madley.

   F. C. McVay, E. L. Wolff, Elmer Wilton, C. E. Campbell, G. L. Goodell, and M. S. Foutch were made effective.

   E. D. Gideon, A. B. Shepard, H. B. Seymour, A. B. Whitmer, J. P. Varner, M. A. Wimberley, and E. H. Kiefer were referred to committee on conference relations.

   G. W. Hawley was permitted to withdraw from the ministry and membership of the church and at his request his credentials were ordered endorsed and returned.

   L. W. Horton, R. J. Callow, S. J. Medlin, F. A. C. Crown, W. G. Fowler, and J. S. Davis were granted a location at their own request.

   Select Number.--On motion of M. E. Gilbert the following persons were appointed a select number to try the cases of all supernumeraries who were asked to locate last year and failed to do so: W. L. Austin, C. M. McCorkle, G. H. Main, J. B. Priest, C. W. McCaskill, C. E. Ruch, A. D. Burress, U. G. Brown, and R. J. McKenzie. The Bishop appointed E. J. T. Connely chairman of the select number and W. S. Porter, secretary. O. T. Moore was appointed attorney for the conference and C. N. Dawson, attorney for the defense.

   The case of Oren F. Chesboro was referred to this select number on motion of B. F. Gaither.

   Registered Communication.--On motion of R. F. Shacklock the conference secretary was instructed to inform the brethren who have been requested to locate during the year by registered mail.

   Excused.--At their own request J. D. M. Buckner and John Crews were excused.

   Afternoon Session.--On motion of H. H. Millard it was ordered that when we adjourn we adjourn (sic) to meet at 2 o'clock P.M.

   Changes.--The name of W. H. Shoaf was substituted for that of M. E. Gilbert, and the name of C. E. Connell for that of A. S. Buell on the committee on prorating.

   Reconsideration.--On motion of J. G. Shick the action of the conference in the case of Harold Armitage was reconsidered. He was placed in the studies of the second year.

   Excused.--On motion of Wm. Esplin the conference Stewards were excused from attendance at the afternoon session.

   Adjourned.--The announcements were made and the conference adjourned with the benediction by O. T. Moore.

   Question 19.--Question nineteen, "Who have withdrawn?" was called. J. W. Farr withdrew and surrendered his credentials. W. H. Prescott withdrew and at his request the secretary was instructed to endorse and return his credentials.

   Rules of Order.--On motion of K. W. G. Hiller a permanent committee on "Rules of Order" was appointed, consisting of one member from each district to report on the first day of next session: W. W. Hull, E. J. T. Connely, A. E. Chadwick, J. G. Shick, W. H. Mills, O. W. Rummell, W. C. Wasser, J. F. Haas, T. W. Jeffrey, C. M. McCorkle, Nathan English.

   Epworth League.--The amended constitution of the Nebraska Conference Epworth League was presented and on motion of W. B. Alexander it was ordered referred to the committee on Epworth League.

   Introductions and Addresses.--L. O. Jones, President of the Nebraska Conference Epworth League, and Mrs. John Calvert were introduced and addressed the conference.

   Question 2.--Question two, "Who have been received by transfer and from what conference?" was called, and the Bishop announced the transfers of the following men into the conference: Harry E. Hess:, a deacon in the studies of the fourth year, from the Indiana Conference; Guy W. McCreery, an Elder from the Colorado; F. E. Pfoutz, an Elder, from the Iowa; and S. B. Williams, a Deacon in the studies of the third year, from the Arkansas.

   Question 15.--Question fifteen, "Who have been transferred and to what Conference?" was taken up. The Bishop announced the transfer of Merle C. Smith to the Northwest Nebraska Conference, C. E. Carroll to the Colorado, and John Spyker to the Iowa.

   Transfers.--On motion of O. T. Moore it was ordered that the minutes of the last session of the Nebraska, North Nebraska, and West Nebraska Conferences, be printed in the minutes of this Conference, and that the Secretary be instructed to record the names of

men transferred to those conferences during the last year in the list of disciplinary questions of this conference.

   Student Pastor.--S. D. Bartle reported for the committee on University pastor and on his motion the report was adopted. (See reports.)

   Sales, Loans and Gifts.--R. P. Hammons presented to the Conference $166, proceeds from the sale of an abandoned church at Ringold, which was ordered paid to the Conference Treasurer. On his motion a loan of $166 was made to the church at Burwin for five years without interest.

   J. M. Bothwell presented $318.76, received from the sale of an abandoned church at Mead, which was received and ordered paid to the Conference Treasurer.

   On motion it was ordered that $318.76 be loaned to the trustees of the church at Lashara for five years without interest.

   On motion of J. W. Embree it was ordered that $534, principal and accrued interest from the sale of Maple Grove Church, now in the hands of the Conference Treasurer, be granted to the trustees of the Rulo church to be used in the purchase of a new parsonage.

   Question 12.--Question twelve, "What others have been elected and ordained deacons?" was taken up. The secretary read the name of Frank Williams, a local preacher, recommended by the Neligh District Conference, the registrar reported his grades, and on motion of his district superintendent he was electd (sic) to deacon's orders.

   No one was recommended for ordination under the missionary rule.

   Under the Seminary rule the names of Alfred V. Hunter, Charles G. Cole, and Benjamin A. Alexander were recommended by their superintendents and on their motion elected to deacon's orders.

   Question 13.--Question thirteen, "What others have been elected and ordained elders?" was called. There were none as local deacons and none under the missionary rule

   The registrar announced the grades of George W. Hylton, and after proper representation he was on motion of J. W. Embree advanced to the studies of the fourth year, graduated from the course of study, and elected to Elder's orders, under the Seminary rule.

   Harvey Anderson and Samuel E. Taft were graduated and elected to Elder's orders under Seminary rule.

   Question 11.--Question eleven was resumed. Charles F. Innis was passed in character, the registrar reported his grades, and on motion of his superintendent he was elected to Elder's orders and graduated from the course of study.

   Harry E. Hess was graduated from the course of study and elected to Elder's orders.

   Question 10.--Question ten was resumed. The character of Stephen B. Williams was passed, the registrar reported his grades and

on motion of his district superintendent he was advanced to the studies of the fourth year.

   Gift.--The secretary announced a gift of $15.18 from the Neligh District Evangelistic Fund to the Nebraska Wesleyan Endowment "Fund.

   Trustees Committee.--On motion of E. T. George, G. W. Isham, C. M. Shepherd, H. H. Millard, Thomas Bithell, E. L. Lewis were appointed a committee to arrange for a Conference Board of Trustees pending the adoption of Articles of Incorporation for the conference.

   Question 21.--Question *twenty-one, "Who have been expelled?" was called. There were none.

   Question 20.--Question twenty, "Who have been permitted to withdraw under charges or complaints?" was called. There were none.

   Question 18.--Question eighteen, "Who have been located?" was called. There were none.

   Question 17.--Question seventeen, "Who have been located at their own request?" was asked. Paul B. Wright, K. P. Kilbourn, J. G. Jeffers, Jesse E. Griffith, J. M. Wilson, S. J. Medlin, L. W.    Change.--On motion of O. T. Moore, G. I. Wright was substituted for G. W. Isham on committee on prorating.

   Question 3.--Question three, "Who have been readmitted?" was asked. There were none.

   Question 28.--Question twenty-eight, "What is the Statistical report?" was asked. The Statistical Secretaries made their report which on motion of E. M. Furman was adopted. (See Report.)

   Notations.--On motion of B. F. Gaither it was ordered that a foot note be entered after the report of the North Platte District indicating that much of that territory was set off from this conference into the Northwest Nebraska by provision of the Enabling Act.

   Question 23.--Question twenty-three was resumed. On motion of the Committee on Conference Relations G. P. Trites, W. C. Braymen, T. A. Bagshaw, C. E. Woodson, L. L. Hanthorne, E. V. Price, Max A. Jeffords, E. E. Tannehill, A. B. Shepard were discharged from the effective to the supernumerary relation.

   W. J. Miller was granted the Supernumerary relation and requested to locate.

   Institute.--On motion of P. C. Johnson, Dr. H. F. Rall was invited to hold a ministerial institute within the bounds of the conference during the coming year.

   Introductions and Addresses.--W. B. Hollingshead, Apportionment Secretary for the General Conference Commission on Finance, and D. D. Forsyth, Superintendent of Denver District, Colorado Conference, were introduced and addressed the Conference in behalf of the General Conference Commission on Finance.

   Financial Plan.--On motion of Allen Chamberlain it was ordered that the Conference adopt the plan of Finance outlined by the General Conference Commission on Finance. (See Resolution.)

   Minute Funds.--On motion of H. F. Huntington funds carried over from the publication of minutes of the Nebraska, North Nebraska and West Nebraska Conferences were placed in the minute fund.

   Adjournment.--Announcements were made, and the conference adjourned with the Benediction by G. I. Wright.

Sunday, September 21, 1913

   Memorial Service.--In the Memorial Service, beginning at 2:30, G. I. Wright presided. After singing the hymn, "Abide with Me," D. .K. Tindall led in prayer.

   Memoirs or addresses were presented as follows: for D. A. Rodabaugh, M. J. Bamford, W. C. Swartz, and Mrs. M. B. Carman, by A. J. Clifton; for Jeptha Marsh, by W. W. Hull; for R. L. Robinson, by T. C. Webster; for D. C. Brannon, by T. H. Worley; for J. H. Beery and Mrs. J. H. Beery, by C. M. Shepherd; for C. A. Mastin, by G. W. Isham; for J. H. Thomas, by L. Morrison; for Mrs. D. C. Worts, by D. K. Tindall. Evangelist F. W. Rollins sang a beautiful hymn, "God Shall Wipe Away All Tears." An excellent memorial sermon was preached by William Esplin, who used for his text, Rev. 21:4, and G. I. Wright pronounced the benediction.

   Ordination Services.--At 3:30 o'clock the Bishop, assisted in the service by the Superintendents, ordained as deacons, Harry C. Burrows, Pearl D. Cox, John W. Crist, Richard Gibbs, William O. Harrell, Lemuel R. Hansberry, Menzo Allen Keith, Albert J. Kellow, William Kilburn, Andrew F. Niemann, George H. Phillips, John W. Paxton, William O. Romick and Frank Williams.

   The Conference met at 8:30 o'clock, T. C. Webster leading the devotional services.

   At 9 o'clock Bishop Bristol took the chair and offered prayer. The Secretary read the minutes of the sessions of Saturday and Sunday and they were corrected and approved.

   Sympathy.--On motion of R. N. Orrill the secretary was instructed to send a message of sympathy to W. L. Hadsell, whose mother has died since the conference convened.

   Question 29.--Question twenty-nine, "What is the Conference Treasurer's Report?" was taken up. The treasurer made his report, showing the disciplinary benevolences to aggregate $88,917. (See Treasurer's Report.)

   Appreciation.--On motion of G. I. Wright, substituted for one by E. M. Furman, the services performed by A. A. Randall in preparation of the materials for the conference minutes, was accepted by the conference with sincere thanks.

   Select Number.--E. J. T. Connely, chairman of the Select Number presented the report of that body.

   Appeal.--C. N. Dawson, counsel for the defense in the case of G. H. Wise, gave notice of an appeal from the findings of the Select Number.

   Presentation.--Under a question of special privilege, G. W. Snyder, in behalf of the members of Neligh District, presented E. T. George, the retiring Superintendent, with a beautiful Bible and a book mark in the form of a check of generous size.

   Conference Stewards. The Board of Conference Stewards was nominated, and on motion of J. M. Bothwell the nomination was approved. (See Conference Stewards.)

   Board of Examiners.--The Bishop appointed the Board of Examiners for the conference. (See Examining Board.)

   Referred.--The case of E. H. Kiefer, on motion of G. I. Wright, substituted for one by E. J. T. Connely, was referred to the committee on conference relations.
