  Asa Gleason, Jr., and Jared GleasonÝ, with their families also lived in the Town of Lorraine.

  In 1855, Robert Lyon stated that he had lived in the Town of Worth 29 years, which would make his first residence there about 1826. The Town of Worth was at that time a part of the Town of Lorraine, from which it was formed in 1848.

  In the Gazetteer of Jefferson County, page 870, under Town of Worth, is given a list of the inhabitants in 1831, among whom were Henry, Erastus and Richard Lyon. Robert's name does not appear but he was no doubt there. Most of these early settlers came from the Town of Litchfieldý, Herkimer County, New York. Richard Lyon, a brother about 2 years older than Robert says in the census that he was born in Herkimer County. The family lived in the northwestern corner of the township near or in the village of Worthville, formerly called Wilcox's corners.

  Estate of Don C. Holly§, "late of Town of Lyme," only one paper in Surrogate's office; inventory, Jan. 18, 1828; set off for the widow "according to law," 1 cow, 8 sheep, 1 bed and bedding, 6 plates, 1 dinner pot, 1 spider, 1 teakettle, wearing apparel a scanty supply for the widow and her two children, 6 chairs, 1 old Bible and 1 Testament. The total effects not exempted were valued at $112.12 of which $19.36 was cash, the rest mostly cloth, tools, a yoke of oxen, etc. Asa Gleason was administrator.

  Don Carlos Holly of the Town of Ellisburgh bought land in that town in 1807. In 1821 Don Carlos Holly of the Town of Brownville sold land in the same town, in Penet's Square, 160 acres which he bought of Ichabod Tousley and being "the same I now live on." No wife appeared. As Lyme was set off from Brownville later, this may be the man whose inventory is given above.

  In the Giddingsville Cemetery, near Wardell's Settlement, in the Town of Ellisburgh, is this stone; according to copy of record on file;
          "Don G. Holly, d. Aug. 2, 1829, as 41. And wife Sally, d. Jan. 11, 1819, ae 29."
As the cemetery is overgrown with brush, an error in copying may have been made as to the year of his death. In Pierpont Manor Cemetery in the same town is buried, Don A. Holly, 1790-1877. In the Lorraine village cemetery is the grave of Don Carlos Holly, who died Oct. 6, 1849, ae. 19 years, son of Newman H. and Elizabeth Holly.

  Asa Gleason of Adams died May 10, 1842, leaving a will. The only heirs mentioned were the widow, Lucy, and a son, Benjamin F.

  Robert Lyon** & Rocinna his wife of the Town of Worth, Sept. 11, 1856, to Leonard Parker of the same, for $2100.00, land in the Town of Worth, 83 3/4 acres; (Book 128 of Deeds, p. 7.)

  Robert Lyon of the Town of Worth, Sept. 13, 1856, deeds to his sister-in-law, Ruth Lyon, the widow of his brother Henry, for $200.00, his interest in the estate of his brother Henry, who left his property to his

NEBRASKA SCHOOL CENSUS

Abstract by Raymond E. Dale, A.B., Lincoln, Nebraska

It seems desirable to again call attention to the value of the Nebraska School Census* by publishing a portion of the Census taken in April, 1875. Similar records can probably be found in all parts of the country. In this abstract the precinct is used as the unit.
