CHARLES HUNTER.

     Charles Hunter, Representative from the Forty-fourth District, composed of Webster county, was born in Ohio, March 12, 1851. When a child his parents removed to Darlington, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood and received his education in the common schools, in June, 1872, he came to Nebraska and took up a homestead in Webster county and farmed until 1883, when he commenced in business at Inavale, Nebraska, as grain dealer and stock-feeder and shipper. This he continues and also conducts a general store in the town. He is extensively engaged in farming and has a thousand acres of land, the greater part of which is well cultivated. He has never before held any office, other than that of supervisor of his own county and precinct and school offices. He is a Republican, and has always taken a lively interest in party affairs. Mr. Hunter was married in 1872 to Josephine I. Smith, and has a family of one son and two daughters.

FRANK JAHNEL.

      Frank Jahnel, Representative from the Eleventh District, Washington county, is a native of Holstein, Germany, where he was born fifty-one years ago, and where he received a liberal education. In 1873 he came to Nebraska, and four years later settled in Washington county, three and one-half miles southeast of Kennard, where he commenced farming, in which vocation he has been highly successful, now being the owner of 680 acres of rich Washington county land, which holdings represent what he has accomplished since coming to America, his capital upon his arrival in Nebraska consisting mainly of good health and a determination to work and succeed. Mr. Jahnel, for three terms, was a member of the Washington County Board, serving in that capacity when the elegant courthouse at Blair was built. Mr. Jahnel has always been active in agricultural matters, and is an extensive feeder and grower of cattle and hogs. For some years he has been the appraiser of the German Mutual Fire Insurance Association of Washington county. He has always been a worker in the Republican ranks. Representative Jahnel was married in 1876 to Bertha Munster, also a native of Germany, and has a family consisting of four sons and four daughters. His post-office address is Blair, Nebraska.

J. S. JOHNSON.

     John S. Johnson, Representative from the Sixty-third District, Phelps county, was born in Smoland, Sweden, September 9, 1855. He received his elementary education in his native country and in Henry county, Illinois, to which place his family emigrated in 1869. In 1887 he came from Illinois to Phelps county and located on the farm which is his present home and where he has continuously lived since settling in the state. Representative Johnson, for three terms, was a county supervisor of Phelps county, and was a member of the 26th Session of the Nebraska Legislature, serving in the lower house. March 9, 1880, he married Miss Alice C. Johnson, of Henry county, Illinois, and has a family consisting of two sons and four girls. In 1902 he was elected to the present Legislature on the Fusion ticket. His post-office address is Funk, Nebraska.
