for a number of years prior to his death, and was of Dutch ancestry. Lucinda Ashby was born at Terre Haute, Indiana, February 12, 1850, and died at Taylor May 12, 1928. She was of Irish and Welsh descent.

Mr. Power attended public school, and on November 25, 1908, was married to Bessie Leola Karr at Grand Island. Mrs. Power was born at Marquette, March 20, 1890 and died there April 21, 1912.

On October 29, 1913, he was married to Alta Irene Fales at Taylor. She was born at Almeria, Nebraska, September 28, 1893. They have seven children, Leola, born March 3, 1915; Marcella, April 11, 1917; Leonard, September 19, 1918; Lester, March 1, 1920; Victor, August 17, 1921; Stanley, April 24, 1923; and Harold, June 25, 1929.

For the past twenty-five years Mr. Power has been a farmer and thresherman, and for eleven years has been engaged also in the insurance business. He is now president and member of the board of directors of the Farmers, Co-operative Oil Company of Sargent, and is an ardent booster for the Farmers Union.

Mr. Power is independent in politics. He is affiliated with the Evangelical Church, is secretary of the local Farmer's Union, is a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, a member of the Nebraskana Society and moderator of his local school board. His hobby is mechanics. Residence: Taylor.


James Frederick Premer

James Frederick Premer, physician and surgeon, was born at Portland, Indiana, March 6, 1881, son of Solomon and Barbara Emeline (Halfhill) Premer. He came to Nebraska in 1886 with his parents settling in Bartley, Nebraska.

His father, a farmer, was born in Indiana, February 20,. 1847, and died at Benkelman, Nebraska, December 28, 1921. His wife, Barbara, was also born in Indiana, on August 6, 1849, and died at Bartley, Nebraska, December 26, 1892.

In 1897 Dr. Premer completed his elementary education in the rural schools of district No. 68 of Red Willow County, Nebraska. He was graduated from the Bartley High School in 1902, and in 1908 received the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Nebraska and served his interneship at the Methodist Hospital at Omaha Nebraska. He located at Haigler, Nebraska, 1909, remaining there until 1919 when he located in Benkelman, Nebraska practicing his profession there continuously. He is a party (sic) owner of the Premer-Ough Drug Company store in Benkelman, Nebraska. During the year 1902-1903 he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, and from 1915 until 1918 attended John Fletcher College, University Park, Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Among his professional organizations are, the Chase, Dundy, Hayes and Hitchcock Counties Medical Society serving as its president 1928-31, the Nebraska State Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He is a member of the Benkelman Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club and the Masons, Justice Lodge No. 180. From 1929 until 1931 he was secretary of the school board. He is a member of the Benkelman Methodist Episcopal Church and a member of the official board as its treasurer. During the late war, he was a medical examiner for the examining board for Dundy County.

On July 21, 1909, Dr. Premer was united in holy matrimony at Bartley, Nebraska to Lelah Fidler, daughter of Resin and Sadie (Phillips) Fidler, who was born November 3, 1884. To this union were born six children, Marlin J., born May 19, 1911; Veta P., born October 31, 1915; Leola R., born July 7, 1917, and died at Oskaloosa, Iowa, May 13, 1918; Eugene P., born June 29, 1920; Stanley D., born April 17, 1922; and Alta A., born September 4, 1924.

Gustave Prestegaard

Gustave Prestegaard was born at Pratt, Steele County, Minnesota, January 12, 1880. His father, Peter Olsen Prestegaard, who was a farmer, was born in Norway, and came to America in 1867. He died at Owatonna, Steele County, Minnesota, October, 1922. His mother, Ingeleiv (Salthun) Prestegaard, was born in Norway.

Mr. Prestegaard was a student in the country district schools of Minnesota, and later attended The South Side High School at Minneapolis. He graduated from The Metropolitan Business College at Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1898. He has lived in Lincoln for the past 22 years and has been engaged in the lumber business there during that time. He is president of the Prestegaard Lumber Company; is vice president of the Northern Machinery & Supply Company at Minneapolis, and was president of the Home Lumber Company at Potter, Nebraska from 1917 to 1929. Also engaged in banking and farming.

On August 22, 1905, he was united in marriage with Carrie Nelsyne Nelson at Slater, Story County, Iowa. Mrs. Prestegaard was born at Slater, June 15, 1875, and is the daughter of Col. Oley Nelson, legislator and former commander Iowa G. A. R. They have four children: Pauline, born August 30, 1906, who was graduated from Midland College and received her A. M. degree at the University of Nebraska, now has charge of the English department of Waldorf College at Forest City, Iowa; Katherine, born November 30, 1907, who is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, and who married Edwin H. McGrew; Gerhard, born April 27, 1911; student University of Nebraska; and Helen, born August 27, 1913, attending Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa.

During the World War Mr. Prestegaard was active in Liberty loan drives. He is a member of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce; Lincoln Automobile Club; director in the Lincoln Rotary Club. He is vice gerent for the Nebraska district for the Concatenated Order of the Hoo Hoo, Lumbermen's Fraternal Order; is a member of the Twin Cities Hoo Hoo Club at Minneapolis. Was Treasurer Lincoln Council of Boy Scouts five years. He is affiliated with the Grace English Lutheran Church at Lincoln, and is a member of the executive committee of the Nebraska Synod of The United Lutheran Church in America. He is a member of the American Scandinavian Foundation, the Nebraska Art Association, and the Nebraskana Society.

He holds membership in the University Club at Lincoln, and the Shrine Country Club. He is a Mason, and Shriner. He is fond of golfing. Politically, Mr. Prestegaard is an independent Republican. Residence: Lincoln. (Photograph on Page 966).


Walter Grey Preston

One of Nebraska's leading insurance men, Walter Grey Preston was born at Omaha, October 10, 1871. His father, William Preston, was born at Worksop, Nottingham, England, November 17, 1838, and came to America in 1853. The remainder of his family remained in England. The tradition of the family relates that William de Preston came from Normandy to England with William the Conqueror in the tenth century. William Preston was a flour and grain dealer in the United States and died at New Orleans, April 26, 1914.

Emilie Victoria (Orchard) Preston, wife of William, was born at Livonia, Indiana, June 16, 1847, and died at Fresno, California, May 20, 1915. Her ancestors settled first in Pennsylvania, thence moving to Virginia, and on to Indiana They were English.

Walter G. Preston was graduated from Omaha High School, and attended Bellevuc College at Bellevue, Nebraska, and Phillips Academy at Andover Massachusetts. He received a Ph. B. from Yale University in 1891 and the same year was given a U. S. military certificate from that university. He was elected to membership in the Berzel-

Entering the grain business with his father in 1891, under the firm name of William Preston and Company, Mr. Preston continued until 1898. From that time until 1903, he was a member of the firm of Preston and Company of Seattle and Dawson, Yukon Territory. Since 1903, he has been associated with the Bankers Reserve Life Insurance Company of Omaha, starting as vice president. He has served as first vice president and treasurer of the organization, and is now its president.

He was married to Myrtie Robison, at Omaha, on July 30, 1901. Mrs. Preston is a native of Tekamah, Nebraska, born December 10, 1875. They have one son, Walter Grey, Jr., born September 22, 1902. He was graduated from Phillips Academy, and from Yale University in 1925. He is assistant to the president of the University of Chicago, and is a licensed aviator.

Mr. Preston is a Republican. He attends the First Presbyterian Church of Omaha, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Nebraska Pioneer Society and The Nebraskana Society. He is fond of golf and motor boating. His clubs include the Omaha Club, the Omaha Country Club, the Omaha Athletic Club, and the West Okoboji Golf and Country Club. Residence: Omaha. Comadore Edward Prevey

Comadore E. Prevey was born at Elroy, Juneau County, Wisconsin, December 30, 1871, the son of Frank and Mary (Bissett) Prevey. His father, a pioneer farmer in Wisconsin, was born at St. Johns, Quebec, Canada, October, 1822, and died at Elroy, May 7, 1903. He settled in Wisconsin in 1854. His mother was born at St. John, settled in Massachusetts, in 1840, and died at Elroy, May 27, 1900.

Mr. Prevey was graduated from the Elroy High School in 1888. He was awarded the B. L. degree at the University of Wisconsin, in 1895; received his A. M. degree at Columbia University in 1899, where he held a fellowship in sociology, 1898-1900; and was a student at the Yale Graduate School, 1897-98.

He served as general secretary of the Associated Charities of Fort Wayne, Indiana, 1895-97; was head lecturer and instructor in sociology at the University of Nebraska, 1900-06; was head resident of the College Settlements, Lincoln, 1902-08; was executive secretary of the Nebraska Children's Code Commission, 1920-21, and from 1900 to 1928 was general secretary of the Social Welfare Society at Lincoln. He is now agent for the Aetna Life Insurance Company, and the Folsom Brothers Company at Lincoln.

He was united in marriage with Medora Alice Whittington, at Lincoln, May 28, 1902. Mrs. Prevey was born at Princeton, Mercer County, Missouri, June 3, 1880. Her parents were West Virginians. Mr. Prevey has always been interested in the social welfare of his community and state and holds membership in the Social Service Club; Nebraska Conference of Social Work; the Open Forum, and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Prevey spends has summer vacations with his family in the mountains of Colorado. He is a member of the Nebraskana Society, and is affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Lincoln. He is a Republican. Residence: Lincoln.


Frederick Homer Price

Frederick Homer Price, an educator and school executive for many years, and at this time an editor and publisher at Newman Grove, Nebraska, has lived in this state for nearly half a century. He was born at Avoca, Iowa, March 13, 1878, the son of Margaret Ann (Amerine) and Fletcher Price. His father, who was a farmer, was born in Franklin County, Indiana, October 27, 1837, and died at York, Nebraska, July 14, 1923. His mother was born at Piqua, Ohio, March 23, 1845, and died at York, September 1, 1921.

Mr. Price received his early education in rural schools, was a student at Nebraska Wesleyan University, the University of Nebraska, and Peru State Teachers College, and in 1908 was graduated from Fremont College, Fremont, Nebraska. He was elected to membership in Phi Delta Kappa and the Schoolmasters Club.

He engaged in public school work for 18 years, and in 1918 resigned the superintendency of the Newman Grove schools to take charge of the Newman Grove Reporter, a weekly newspaper, of which he is editor and publisher. He served as president of the Nebraska State Press Association in 1930, was a member of the executive committee of the Nebraska State Historical Society, 1930, and acted as president of the Northeast Nebraska Teachers Association in 1914.

Mr. Price holds membership in the National Editorial Association, the Nebraskana Society, and the Methodist Episcopal Church of Newman Grove. He is a Mason, and during his years of teaching was active in all state educational societies. A Republican, he served as a member of the Board of Education for two terms and was city clerk of Newman Grove for 10 years.

Of his marriage to Matilda A. Miller, in 1905, the following children were born: Warren Miller, born December 15, 1906, who married Dolene Wills;. Marvin Frederick, born May 26, 1908, who married Amy Louise Martin; Marian, born May 27, 1910; and Frances, born December 19, 1911. Mrs. Price died in 1913.

On August 18, 1915, he married Myrtle Faye Scott, at Pawnee City, Nebraska; she was born at Adrian, Missouri, daughter of Robert and Ida Scott, and was a public school teacher prior to her marriage. Frank C. Prince

Frank C. Prince, superintendent of Bayard City Schools, was born in Valley County, Nebraska, January 11, 1894, son of Joseph and Antonia (Jankovec) Prince.

His father was born in Pacov, Tabor, Bohemia, November 17, 1868, and is a prominent farmer and member of his rural school board. His wife, Antonia, was born at Nova Ves, Pisek, Bohemia, May 11, 1872. She comes from a family of farmers.

Mr. Prince attended rural school in Valley County, until May, 1908, and was graduated from Ord High School, in May, 1912. In 1916, he received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Hastings College, and in 1932, received his M. A. from the University of Nebraska. He was president of his literary society in college, a member of the college student council, and active in athletics. He was a member of the football team four years, all state captain; in basketball four years, a member of the track team two years, and during the World War, was a member of the second all American service football team.

On June 2, 1920, he was married to Fern Lymania Warner at Milford. Mrs. Prince was born at Milford, April 19, 1894, descended from the Warner family of colonial fame. She attended the University of Nebraska Academy, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hastings College in 1917, and took a post graduate course in home economics at the University of Nebraska. She was principal of the Burwell High School prior to her marriage. Mrs. Prince is past president of the Bayard Womans Club, and is an active member of the Eastern Star and the Bayard Federated Churches. They have three children, Doris, born April 9, 1921; Bernice, born January 3, 1923; and Donald, born November 11, 1924.

Active in educational work, Mr. Prince has served as secretary and president of the District Teachers Associations and as a member of the executive committee

of the Nebraska State Teachers Association. He is a member of the National Education Association, the Red Cross, the Lions Club, and was a member of the Alliance Rotary Club. He is a Scottish Rite Mason.

During the World War, Mr. Prince was bayonet officer. He holds the rank of captain in the Infantry Reserve Corps, at the present time, is a member of the Reserve Officers Association, and the American Legion. His religious affiliation is with the Bayard Federated Churches. He is a Presbyterian. At the present time, he is serving as president of the Bayard Country Club. He enjoys all sports, particularly golf, tennis, hunting, fishing, and hiking. His hobby is gardening. Residence: Bayard.


Willard Ansel Prince

Willard Ansel Prince, an outstanding figure in the professional world of Grand Island, Nebraska, has been engaged in the practice of law there since 1888. He was born at Ashtabula, Ohio, September 3, 1864, the son of Ansel Willard and Maria (Aldrich) Prince, the former a farmer who died at Ashtabula, January 6, 1903. His father was of New England birth while his mother was a native of Canada.

Mr. Prince was graduated from Hilisdale College with the Bachelor of Science degree, June 15, 1886, and was a member of Phi Delta Theta there. A Republican, he served as prosecuting attorney for Hall County, city attorney of Grand Island, a member of the Nebraska house of representatives, and state senator. He is a director in the Commercial Bank of Grand Island.

He is a member of the Grand Island Bar Society and the Woodland Country Club. His recreations are fishing and golf. Mr. Prince is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of Grand Island and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society.

His marriage to Carrie Belle Roberts was solemnized at Ulysses, Nebraska, December 26, 1888. Mrs. Prince, whose ancestry is Welsh, was born at Jefferson, Iowa, April 27, 1868. They have four children, Harold Aubrey, born April 6, 1891, who married Mary Carson; Hazel Mary, born June 6, 1895, who married Addison I. Bolton; Catherine Roberta, born February 11, 1901; and Elizabeth, born March 7, 1906. Residence: Grand Island.


Charles August Prinz

Charles A. Prinz was born at Chalco, Nebraska, June 22, 1883, the son of August Fred and Jetta (Stahl) Prinz. His father, who was a farmer, was born in Germany, and died at Millard, February 11, 1928. His mother was born in Germany, and died at Millard, December 31, 1929.

Mr. Prinz attended rural school in Sarpy County, and was a student at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture. He has been a farmer near Chalco for the past 30 years. He is affiliated with St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and is a member of the Democrat party. Mr. Prinz is interested in mechanics. His favorite sport is baseball.

He married Louise C. Glasshoff, at Millard, August 16, 1905. Mrs. Prinz was born at Omaha, Nebraska, April 9, 1885. They have two children: Elmer, born March 16, 1907; and Florence, born April 26, 1908, who married Emory Megel. Residence: Chalco.


Leslie Richard Prior

Leslie Richard Prior, who is prominent in the business activities of Kearney, Nebraska, has resided in this state for the past 31 years. He was born at London, England, March 6, 1891, the son of William and Jennie (Napper) Prior, the former a business executive in London who died there in 1899. His mother was born at Mayfield, England, January 21, 1865, and died there in 1800.

Mr. Prior attended the city schools of Kearney, and has held the following positions in the business world of Nebraska: cashier of the Farmers Bank of Kearney, 1907 to 1918; cashier of the Maxwell State Bank, Maxwell, May 1, 1918 to May 1, 1928; special agent for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company of Milwaukee, at Hastings, Nebraska, 1928-29; and since 1929, secretary-treasurer of the Kearney Savings & Loan Association.

He is secretary of the Kearney Kiwanis Club, serving as editor of the Kearney Kiwanian, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Red Cross, and is a member of the Kearney Country Club. Mr. Prior is a 32nd degree Mason and Shrine member, is affiliated with St. Lukes Protestant Episcopal Church of Kearney, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. During the World War he was active in the promotion of Liberty loan drives and in notarial work in connection with the draft. His political preference is the Republican party.

On June 21, 1916, he was united in marriage with Minnie Buerstetta at Red Cloud, Nebraska. Mrs. Prior, who was a professional reader and dramatist before her marriage, was born of German and Swiss parents at Tecumseh, Nebraska, January 18, 1889. Their two children are: Peggy Jane, born April 24, 1919; and Richard R., born October 3, 1922. Residence: Kearney.


Grace Wood Pritchard

For the past 15 years Grace Wood Pritchard has been prominent in public affairs at York, as a clubwoman and civic leader. She was born at Brownhelm, Ohio, February 29, 1872, the daughter of Edwin Austin Wood and Angeline (Cooley) Wood. Her father, who was born at Buffalo, New York, August 5, 1838, and died at Council Bluffs, Iowa, March 2, 1917, was a dry goods merchant at Brownhelm, for several years, and later was engaged in the dairy business at Avoca, Iowa. He served in the Civil War from 1861, to 1865. His Quaker ancestors came to this country in the Mayflower.

Her mother, who was of Puritan descent, was born at Brownhelm, September 28, 1841, and died at Avoca, July 19, 1911. She was a profound student and reader, and was actively interested in church work. Before her marriage she was a practical nurse.

Mrs. Pritchard received her education at Avoca, and Oakland, Iowa, and for 12 years before her marriage was assistant postmistress. Later she was engaged in the mercantile business for two years. She was married to Charles Daniel Pritchard at Avoea, December 19, 1906. Mr. Pritchard, who is a mechanic, was born at Avoea, August 9, 1875; he is of Welsh descent.

A Republican, she served as first ward committeewoman, and has always promoted civic organizations at York. During the World War she was chairman of various war committees at York, and was awarded a medal in recognition of her efficient efforts. She acted as president of the Women's Committee of the local Young Men's Christian Association for two years, was president of the York Woman's Club for two years, and served as superintendent of the Congregational Sunday School for over 12 years. She is now treasurer of the Order of Eastern Star, is acting committeewoman for the first ward at York, and is treasurer of Job's Daughters. In addition to her social and civic duties, Mrs. Prichard is bookkeeper and assistant in the Pritchard garage. She is affiliated with the Congregational Church and the Nebraskana Society. Residence: York.


Ida Mae Pritchett

Ida Mae Pruitt was born at Bethalto, Illinois, April 30, 1856, and for the past sixty-four years has been a resident of Nebraska. Through both parents she traces her ancestry to pre-Revolutionary settlers in America.

The Preuitt family, whose first member in America was Martin Preuitt, Sr., has been prominent in the history of our country since the 16th century. Martin
