Davidson, December 20, 1920. Frank Adelbert, born February 7, 1923, died September 16, 1925.

He was professor of English at Lombard College and at Washington and Jefferson until he became associated with the University of Nebraska in 1926. He is the author of English Study and English Writing; Sir Walter Scott's Novels on the Stage, besides many magazine articles on the various phases of English. He assisted the blind hymnist, Fanny J. Crosby, in writing her biography. He has edited Stevenson's Master of Ballantrae and the New Century Book of Facts. He has been editor of Gavel, organ of Delta Sigma Rho since 1926.

His religious affiliation is with the Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church of Lincoln. He is a member of the Modern Language Association, Modern Humanities Research Association, Shakespeare Association of America, and the Society of Midland Authors, of which latter he is vice president for Nebraska. He is now serving as president of the Nebraska High School Debate League. He has been active in the Knife & Fork Club of Lincoln during his residence, and is past president of the organization. Herbert Thoma White

Herbert T. White, lawyer, was born at Lockwood, Nebraska, November 21, 1897. He is the son of Elmer Orin and Mary (Thoma) White. Elmer Orin White, who was born at Ann Arbor, Michigan, July 27, 1862, was a farmer and stockfeeder, and served as a director of the school board and as mmeber (sic) of the legislature of 1907. He was a descendant of William White who came to America with his parents on the Mayflower. He died at Cairo, Nebraska, January 2, 1912. Mary Thoma was born in Atchison, Kansas, October 26, 1864. Her father served with the Union forces in the Civil War, sustaining wounds from which he later died. Both he and his wife were natives of Germany.

Herbert T. White was educated first in district school No. 14, Hall County, Nebraska, being graduated at the age of 10 in 1908. He was graduated from Grand Island High School at the age of 14. In 1918 he received his B. L. at the University of Nebraska, which he attended four years. He was vice president of his law class in his junior year and president in his senior year. He was a letterman in football in 1917, and is a member of Phi Delta Phi.

A Republican, he was elected to the Nebraska state legislature in 1927 from the 11th district, and was nominated for re-election both in 1928 and 1930. He was associated in practice with the law office of Mahoney and Kennedy for one year, and since 1919 has been engaged in private practice.

On September 20, 1919, he was married to Mary Frances Stefan, at Omaha. Mrs. White was born at Omaha, July 11, 1897, and died there April 12, 1922. She was of German and Bohemian parentage, her father having been a captain in the Austrian Army.

Mr. White is a Protestant. He is a member of the Nebraskana Society and during the World War was a four-minute speaker. His clubs are the Happy Hollow Country Club, and the Lake Shore Tennis Club. His favorite sports are golf and football. Residence: Omaha.


William Vance White

William Vance White, merchant at Morrill, Nebraska, was born at Burwell, March 1, 1909, son of Elbert Miller and Nina Kate (Young) White.

Elbert Miller White was born at Fairbanks, Iowa, January 4, 1874, and is an attorney and former state representative from the 77th district. His wife, Nina, was born at Stanton, June 28, 1883. She is president of the Burwell Woman's Club, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and past president and member of the P. E. O. Sisterhood. She was educated at Brownell Hall in Omaha. Her ancestry is Scotch. Her father W. W. Young, is a former state senator and a former state president of the Knights of Pythias. He was one of the founders of the North American Life Insurance Company.

Upon his graduation from Burwell High School, Mr. White entered the University of Nebraska, where he was a student 1926-27. He earned two letters each in football and basketball in high school, and at the university was a member of Sigma Chi.

Four years, Mr. White was employed in Walkers Pharmacy at Burwell. At the president time, he is owner and manager of Whites store at Morrill. He is a Republican.

On January 13, 1929, he was married to LaVerne Opal Fitton at Brewster. She was born at Grafton, April 21, 1908, and was supervisor of music in public schools at Burwell. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Fitton. She was a student at Doane College and is a member of the Woman's Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her ancestry is English, three ancestors having fought in Revolutionary War. They have one daughter, Jane Harriet, born February 9, 1932.

Mr. White is a member of the Congregational Church, a member of the Commercial Club, the Masons, and the Nebraskana Society. His favorite sport is golf, while his hobby is reading. Residence: Morrill.


Edwin Newton Whitescarver

Edwin Newton Whitescarver, merchant, was born at Central City, Nebraska, March 21, 1898, son of Edwin Newton and Mattie Elsie (Weger) Whitescarver. The father, born at Stansbury, Missouri, April 5, 1862, is an advertising and circulation manager. The mother was born in Illinois, February 13, 1867.

Mr. Whitescarver was graduated from Central City High School in May, 1917, where he earned letters in football, basketball and baseball. From 1920-24 he was a traveling salesman for Grainger Brothers Company of Lincoln, and since the last mentioned date has been the owner of a general mercantile business at Dunning.

A Republican, Mr. Whitesearver is local secretary of the Republican national committee. He has been secretary of the Blaine County Fair Association since 1925, and was a member of the town board 1929-30. From 1925-30 he served as chairman of the local school board.

On May 31, 1923, he was married to Lucy Belle Chrisman at Lincoln. Mrs. Whitescarver was born at Broken Bow, Nebraska, September 11, 1897 and is a graduate of Broken Bow High School. She is the daughter of Abe R. and Emma (Tooley) Chrisman. They are pioneer settlers of Custer County. Her father is a descendant of Abraham Lincoln and her mother is a sister of the late senator C. S. Tooley. Mrs. Whitesearver is a member of the Eastern Star. To them were born two children, Charles Edwin, on January 16, 1925; and Leola Dean, born July 19, 1927. Residence: Dunning.


Elizabeth Edna Whitfield

Elizabeth E. Whitfield, vice president of the Nebraska Federation of Woman's Clubs, has been prominent in the social and civic life of the state since 1912. She was born at Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, February 25, 1874, the daughter of Daniel Charles and Mary Catherine (Walsh) Barnard. Her father, who was born at Philadelphia, in 1819, and died at Beaver Falls, September 6, 1885, was the operator of stone quarries and coal mines. Her mother, who was a descendant of Andrew and Nathaniel Patterson, soldiers in the Revolution, was born at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, June 19, 1828, and died at Beaver Falls, August 9, 1918.

Mrs. Whitfield attended grade school at Beaver Falls, and in 1891 was graduated from high school. Later she stldied (sic) music at Beaver College for one year. In addition

to her Woman's Club activities she is a member of the Young Women's Christian Association, the American Red Cross, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of the Eastern Star at Lincoln. From 1922 to 1924 she was president of the Lincoln Woman's Club. Her religious affiliation is with the First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln. She is a Democrat.

Her marriage to William Wilson Whitfield was solemnized at Beaver Falls, December 27, 1892. Mr. Whitfield, who is a traveling salesman, was born at Dublin, Ireland, May 19, 1868. Their children are: Marion, born October 29, 1893, who married Guy E. Mickle; and Harold, born April 16, 1895, who married Edith Jump, and who is patent attorney for the Teletype Corporation. Residence: Lincoln.


J. W. Whitham

In 1849, J. W. Whitharn was born in Broome County, Kentucky, the son of John Whitharn and Caroline (Rowe) Whitham. His father, who was a farmer, was born in England, in March, 1812.

Mr. Whitham, a resident of Nebraska for 58 years, was county commissioner of Johnson County for several years. From 1904 to 1907, he served as representative in the Nebraska legislature, elected on the Republican ticket.

He was married at Cook, Nebraska, to Zereda Mavity. Mrs. Whitham's ancestry is Irish and English.

The family is affiliated with the Mount Hope Methodist Episcopal Church. Residence: Cook.


Roy Herbert Whitham

Roy H. Whitham was born at Raymond, Nebraska, July 14, 1899, and has lived in this state all his life. His father, George P. Whitham, a railroad agent, merchant, and farmer, was born at Aledo, Illinois, October 30, 1860. His ancestors settled in Pennsylvania about 1760. His mother, Rosa Belle (Stirk) Whitham, was born at Seneca, Kansas, December 27, 1865; her ancestors had lived in Pennsylvania for more than two generations.

Dr. Whitham was graduated from the high school at Fairfield, Nebraska, 1916; received his A. B. degree at the University of Nebraska, in 1920; and was awarded the M. D. degree at Harvard University, 1924. He was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa; Sigma XI; the Innocents Society; and Beta Theta P1, and was admitted to the practice of medicine at Lincoln, on November 16, 1926. He served his interneship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, 1924-26; practiced at North Haven, Maine, during the summer of 1926, and since then has been a surgeon at Lincoln.

He is the author of a few scientific articles published in medical journals, is a member of the American Medical Association; secretary of the Lancaster Medical Society; and is junior candidate for membership in the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraskana Society. He was a member of the Student Army Training Corps at the University of Nebraska, 1918. He is a Republican.

On July 23, 1924, be was married to Eleanore Virginia Fogg at Lincoln. Mrs. Whitham, who is a teacher and director of dramatics, was born at Providence, Rhode Island, May 30, 1898; her direct ancestors came to America and settled in New Jersey before the Revolution. They have a daughter, Anne Elizabeth, born September 11, 1927. Residence: Lincoln.


Edward Thomas Whiting

Edward Thomas Whiting, school administrator, was born at Juniata, Nebraska, February 21, 1901, son of George Noel and Maude May (Lanphere) Whiting.

The father, a farmer of English parentage, was born in Madison, Wisconsin, March 16, 1873. His wife, Maude, was born in Centerville, Iowa, December 22, 1880.

Mr. Whiting attended public school at Giltner and Juniata, and was graduated from Juniata High School in 1919. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska in 1927; and his Master of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska in 1931. He attended Hastings College 1922-23. He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, and was valedictorian of his high school class.

For the period of one year, Mr. Whiting was a high school teacher, and following that was principal of the Cowles High School. For eight years, he was superintendent of schools at Upland and Doniphan, and at the present, he is superintendent of city schools at Gordon. He is the author of Codification of Controversial Items of School Expenditure (1931) in addition to miscellaneous articles.

His marriage to Ethel Lucille Wailer was solemnized at Superior, December 25, 1922. Mrs. Whiting was born at Cowles, June 27, 1901, of English descent. She is the daughter of Harry M. and Ola (Bailey) Wailer. She graduated from Cowles High School and attended the Peru State Normal. She is a secretary of the Federated Woman's Club. They have two children, Donald, born September 6, 1923; and Marilyn, born March 18, 1928.

Among Mr. Whiting's professional organizations are, the National Educational Association (life member), Nebraska State Teachers Association (life member, secretary 6th district). He is secretary at the present time of the Kiwanis Club, and served as vice-president in 1930. He is a member of the Methodist Church, the Red Cross, and the Odd Fellows. His hobby is reading.

Mr. Whiting is second lieutenant in the 866th Field Artillery Reserve. He served as county chairman of the Citizens Military Training Camp for a period of three years,. Residence: Gordon. (Photograph on Page 1277).


Fredrick Harvey Whitmore

Born at Valley, Nebraska, November 21, 1887, Fredrick Harvey Whitmore is the son of Frank and Mary (Gardiner) Whitmore, pioneer Nebraskans. Frank Whitmore was born at Sunderland, Massachusetts, October 14, 1853. In 1878 he came to Valley with his brother, William G. Whitmore, where he engaged in farming and stockraising. He was one of the organizers and for many years vice president of the Valley State Bank, and in 1901, with his brother, W. G. Whitmore, established the Valley Stock Yards and Grain Company.

Mary Gardiner was a native of Kilwiming, Scotland. Barn May 26, 1849, she came with her family to America at the age of four, residing for some time in New York State. Later she removed to Holyoke, Massachusetts, remaining there until her marriage to Frank Whitmore in 1879. She is a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a charter member of the Valley Presbyterian Church.

Fredriek H. Whitmore attended public and high school at Valley, and in 1906 was married to Lurah Harrier at Des Moines, Iowa. She was born at Valley, September 4, 1887, and is assistant editor of her husband's newspaper. There are three children, Helen, born November 16, 1907; Mary, born February 1, 1911, who married Walter Allen; and Florence, born August 29, 1917.

At the present time the editor and publisher of the Valley Enterprise, the oldest legal weekly in Douglas County, Mr. Whitmore has always been active in public affairs. From 1912 to 1916 he served as postmaster, for six years he has been secretary of the commercial club, and has held the office of mayor of Valley. At the present time he is a member of the town board.

During the World War Mr. Whitmore assisted with the draft and participated in other civilian work. His religious affiliation is with the Valley Presbyterian Church. He is a member of Ak-Sar-Ben, a Scottish Rite

Howard James Whitmore

Howard James Whitmore, son of Joseph Knisely and Elizabeth Catherine (Gilbert) Whitmore, was born at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, March 4, 1857. His father, Joseph Knisely Whitniore, was born near Carlisle, Pennsylvania, October 2, 1826 and died at Lincoln, April 6, 1914, at the age of eighty-seven years and six months. He was a teacher, merchant and farmer, whose father was born in Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Gilbert was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, September 14, 1831, and died at Lincoln December 11, 1925, at the age of 94. Her father and grandfather were born in Pennsylvania; and her mother in Wales.

Mr. Whitmore was educated, in public and private schools in Ohio, and received his law degree from the State University of Iowa. Always affiliated with the Democratic party, he was appointed police magistrate of Lincoln in 1887; elected police magistrate in Lincoln 1916 for the terms 1917-20; re-elected twice on the straight Democratic ticket he served six years in all. Appointed United States commissioner in 1913 he has been re-oppointed (sic) several times and, is still holding that office. In 1894 he was appointed national bank examiner, resigning in February, 1899. He has worked as an expert accountant at various times, but has mainly engaged in the practice of law.

On January 24, 1894, he was united in marriage to Myrta M. Osborn at Lincoln. She was born in Allegheny County, New York, January 28, 1862, and died at Lincoln, December 5, 1911. She was of early stock from Vermont and New York.

Brought up in the English Lutheran religion, Mr. Whitmore, is now a member of First Plymouth Congregational Church. He is past master of Lincoln Lodge No. 19, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Scottish Rite, Shrine and Odd Fellows. He belongs to the state and county bar associations, the Chamber of Commerce and the Open Forum. In the past he was fond of hunting, and now enjoys fishing once in a while. Residence: Lincoln.


Mark Evans Whitnah

Mark Evans Whitnah, son of Charles and Mary Evalyn (Richmand) Whitnah, was born in Seward County, Nebraska, January 4, 1894. His father, born at Spring Valley, Green County, Ohio, July 7, 1862, died at Rochester, Minnesota, March 11, 1929. His ancestors came to this country from Holland about 1663.

His mother was born at Guilford, Windham County, Vermont, April 9, 1863, of English parentage. She is living and taught school before her marriage.

Mark Whitnah attended the Beaver Crossing elementary school, and from 1907-11 he was a student of the Grand Island Academy, from which he received the degree of Bachelor of Agricultural Science, in 1915. Later he attended the Grand Island College one year. On June 3, 1916, he was united in marriage to Evalana Melba Adams, at Grand Island. Mrs. Whitnah was born at Grand Island, November 22, 1895, of English parentage. Their daughters: Maydene, born September 17, 1918, and Eloise, born March 21, 1924, attende (sic) the Beaver Crossing school.

Mr. Whitnah has specialized in farming, in which he has been very successful. He is affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church and holds membership in the Community Club at Beaver Crossing, as well as the Nebraskana Society. His hobby is music. Residence: Beaver Crossing.


David Day Whitney

On August 6, 1878, David Day Whitney was born at Brookfield, Vermont. His father, Cyrus Hall Whitney, was a native of Brookfield, having been born there August 12, 1852. He was active in the business affairs of the community and was of English, Scotch and Welsh ancestry. His death occurred at Brookfield, March 23, 1908. The mother of David Whitney was Luthera Samantha Sprague, who spent her lifetime in Brookfield, where she was born February 23, 1850, and died April 5, 1926. She was descended from English, French, Irish and Dutch pioneers.

After completing the courses offered by the Brookfield public schools in 1895, David D. Whitney entered Montpelier Seminary, from which he was graduated in 1900. Wesleyan University awarded him the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1904. He received the degree of Master of Arts in 1906, and Doctor of Philosophy at Columbia University in 1909. Dr. Whitney is a member of Delta Tan Delta, and of Sigma Xi fraternity and is a starred member of American Men of Science.

His marriage to Kathryn Stillman Bunce occurred at New Brittain, Connecticut, on June 17, 1914. Mrs. Whitney was born at Grant, Plymouth County, Iowa, December 10, 1877. Her ancestry is English. They have one daughter Elizabeth, who was born March 25, 1915.

At the present time Dr. Whitney is professor of Zoology at the University of Nebraska. From 1908 to 1916 he was an instructor and associate professor at Wesleyan University. In 1916 he moved to this state and became connected with the University of Nebraska.

During his career Dr. Whitney has written more than 30 articles for scientific journals concerning heredity and sex in rotifers. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a member of St. Paul Methodist Episcopal Church, the American Association of University Professors, the American Society of Naturalists, the Nebraska Academy of Sciences, and the American Society of Zoologists. Residence: Lincoln.


George Quinton Whitney

One of the leading business men at Ainsworth, Nebraska, is George Quinton Whitney who has lived in this state all his life. He was born at Tilden, Nebraska, July 12, 1879, and for the past 13 years has been a retail druggist at Ainsworth. Prior thereto he was in business at Beatrice five years, Norfolk a year and a half and Neleigh, three years. His father, Daniel Wing Whitney, who was one of the first railroad engineers for the Union Pacific Company west of Omaha, was born at Avon, New York, April 25, 1834, and died at Tilden, October 26, 1900; his parents settled in New York, later moved to Burr Oak, Michigan, and were pioneers in Nebraska.

His mother, Mary Anne (Quinton) Whitney, was born at Buffalo, New York, November 1, 1840, and died at Tilden, October 17, 1919. Her father, George Quinton, was of Scotch descent, and her mother, Bridget O'Callahan, was Irish.

Mr. Whitney was graduated from the Tilden High School in 1895 and in 1904 was a student at the Omaha College of Pharmacy. He is a member of the Ainsworth Commercial Club, was formerly a member of the local school board, and is affiliated with the Ainsworth Congregational Church. He is a Mason, is a member of the Nebraskana Society, and holds membership in the Ainsworth Country Club. Mr. Whitney's favorite sport is golfing.

On January 19, 1905, he was married to Susan Maria Gillespie at O'Neill, Nebraska. Mrs. Whitney, who is the daughter of Bennet Scott and Eleanor A. (Vail Fleet) Gillespie, was born at O'Neill, January 29, 1885, To them were born: Donald G., July 11, 1906, who is an engineer with the American Telephone & Telegraph

Helen Whitney

Helen Whitney, who is clerk of the district court in Furnas County, Nebraska, is a lifelong resident of this state. She was born at Beaver City, Nebraska, March 20, 1891, the daughter of William Butler and Isabel (Prime) Whitney. Her father, who was a lawyer and bonded abstracter, was born at Calais, Maine, May 2, 1857, of English ancestry, and died at Beaver City, July 5, 1930.

Her mother, the daughter of George and Ann Eliza Anderson Prime and the granddaughter of Robert Anderson, was born at Storey City, Iowa, September 5, 1859. She was of English and Scotch extraction.

Miss Whitney was graduated from the Beaver City High School in 1909, and in 1913 received the A. B. degree at Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, where she was a member of the college orchestra and Pi Beta Phi. She served as secretary of the senior class at Simpson College in 1913, and was a member of the cabinet of the Young Women's Christian Association.

She served as mathematics instructor from 1913 to 1917, was government clerk in the code section of the Military Intelligence Bureau, 1918-19 in Washington, D. C., and again taught high school mathematics during 1919-20. Since 1921 she has served as clerk of the district court of Furnas County and since 1927 has been a bonded abstracter at Beaver City.

Miss Whitney is chairman of the Furnas County Volunteer Service department of the Red Cross, is affiliated with the Methodist Church, and holds membership in the P. E. O. She is a Republican. Residence: Beaver City.


William Ira Whitney

William Ira Whitney was born at Folsomedale, New York, September 22, 1871, son of Alva Rice and Angeline (Thomas) Whitney.

Alva Rice Whitney was born at Folsomedale, February 17, 1841, and was a farmer, coming to Nebraska in February, 1884. He died at Craig, Nebraska, February 17, 1890. His wife, Angeline, was born at Varysburg, New York, March 26, 1833, and died at Bayard, Nebraska, November 17, 1920.

On December 22, 1897, Mr. Whitney was married to Minnie Maud Plummer at Craig. She was born at Marshalitown, Iowa, September 9, 1877. Mrs. Whitney was the daughter of Anthony A. and Ellen Ora Plummer. Mr. Plummer was born at Dixon, Illinois, March 25, 1849, and now lives at Bayard, Nebraska. Mrs. Plummer was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, August 28, 1854 and died at Randolph, Nebraska, December 18, 1909.

They have three children, Claude J., born October 10, 1900; James A., born May 24, 1908; and Ellen Ora, born August 27, 1912. Claude and James are farmers; James attended the state university the year of 1925-26.

Mr. Whitney is a farmer at Bayard, Nebraska. He has resided in Nebraska for the past 48 years, and has been prominent in agricultural projects. At the present time, he is serving as president of the Chimney Rock Irrigation District. He is a member of the Federated Church of Bayard, the Masons, the Eastern Star, and the Morril County Farm Bureau. His hobby is reading. He is a Democrat. Residence: Bayard.


Bernard Whitwer

Bernard Whitwer, who was a resident of Nebraska for 62 years, was born at Bern, Switzerland, December 20, 1845. He received his education in the public schools of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where be attended night school. Upon his arrival in this country he settled at Pittsburgh where he remained until 1869 when he homesteaded in Antelope County, Nebraska.

Mr. Whitwer was the first blacksmith in Antelope County where he served as a member of the county board for a number of years and was a civic-minded and progressive leader in his community all his life. He was affiliated with the Friedens Evangelical Church, held membership in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and just prior to his death, on December 12, 1931, was elected to membership in The Nebraskana Society.

On February 16, 1872, he was united in marriage with Wilbelmine Caroline Draube in Stanton County, Nebraska. Mrs. Whitwer, whose parents were pioneers in Nebraska, was born at Stateen, Germany, October 10, 1852.

The following children were born to this marriage; Alfred A., born March 14, 1875, who married Mary Yenglin; Laura Anna, born October 17, 1876, who married John Fankhauser; Amel Herman, October 12, 1878, who married Maude Pierce; Will, September 29, 1880, who married Beulah Pierce; Minnie Flora, September 14, 1884, who married John Lamly, Sr.; and Clara Bertha, July 6, 1886, who married Charles F. Herbert L. Wichman

Herbert L. Wichman was born at Pierce, Nebraska, September 6, 1889, the son of William and Bertha (Pasewalk) Wichman. His father, who was a blacksmith and wagon maker, was born in Wisconsin, September 21, 1857, and died at Pierce, January 9, 1891. His mother was born in Wisconsin, July 18, 1861, and died at Norfolk, Nebraska, October 28, 1919; her ancestry was German.

Mr. Wichman was appointed postoffice clerk in 1910 at Norfolk, was made assistant postmaster in 1920, and since 1924 has been postmaster. He is a Republican. He holds membership in the Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce, the Nebraskana Society, and the Young Men's Christian Association. He is affiliated with Mount Olive English. Lutheran Church and is a member of the Meridian Heights Golf Club. His favorite sport is golfing and his hobby is mechanics.

His marriage to Irene Philena Stoltenberg occurred at Norfolk, Nebraska, September 27, 1910, the daughter of Peter and Philena (Newal) Stoltenberg. Mrs. Wichman, whose ancestry is German and French, was born at Ewing, Nebraska, August 4, 1890. They have one son, James H., born September 5, 1927. Residence: Norfolk.


Wilbur Atley Wickersham

Wilbur Atley Wickersham, farmer, was born at Marietta, Iowa, June 6, 1878, son of Tryon and Elizabeth (Groner) Wickersham. The father was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, August 11, 1828, and enlisted in Company K, 32nd Iowa Infantry August 22, 1862. He was discharged August 24, 1865. He later came to Iowa and died at Marshalltown, December 23, 1903. His wife, Elizabeth, was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, in 1835, and died at Albion, Iowa, November 22, 1889. Her ancestors are Pennsylvania Dutch.

Mr. Wickersham graduated from public school in 1896 and has since engaged in farming. At the present time he is president of the Farmers Co-operative Elevator Company of Filley. He is a Democrat.

On May 28, 1903, he was married to Katheryn S. Bremer at Dresden, Kansas. Mrs. Wickersham was born at York, Nebraska, July 13, 1883, of German-Scotch ancestry. They have four children, Wilbur, born May 22, 1904; Maurine, born March 17, 1910; Earl, born February 24, 1914; and Fred, born December 10, 1918.
