   IT has been a constant source of regret to all who are interested in the welfare and progress of Nebraska University to see so many of her Professors who have attained prominence in their work leave this institution for another where a larger salary is offered. It seems almost a certainty that as soon as a Nebraska man achieves some degree of fame he will be lost to some institution whose donors or whose legislature is more generous. We believe that if Nebraska is to progress, if she is to maintain a high rank among the colleges of the country, she must retain the great Professors that she is instrumental in making, and she can not do this until we have a legislature of sufficient liberality to permit the University to pay these men what they are worth. In the hope that this fact may be forcibly impressed upon some portion of the people of the state, we have prepared the following article, which we now submit for your consideration.
