Abner and Mary Fetterly Munk moved their little family consisting of seven children from Herkimer County, New York to Lancaster County in 1868. Documented land deeds verify this as their date of settlement in the area around Bennett. Mary's parents, Jacob and Margaret Fetterly and two of her brothers, Nicholas and Harvey Fetterly migrated to NE with them. Both the Munk and Fetterly families had been residents of Herkimer County, New York since the early 1700s. This was quite a move for them!

They spent their first winter living in a dug out, struggling to survive the cold and lack of proper nutrition. (read a MOST interesting account of their early years in NE written by their son, Alonzo)

Possessing that hearty pioneer spirit they DID survive and went on to build the above cabin. Slowly they began to farm the land and settle in to their new life and eventually could see their way clear to build a lovely home. They were proud to have a part to play in the settlement of a new land. All of the above mentioned are resting in the Bennett Cemetery except for Alonzo who migrated on to Montana in his adult years.
