Between 1940 and 1945 before my mother, Doris (Sees) Hill, was married, she taught 2 years in the LaVaca (sp?) school in western Cherry county and 3 years in the Eli school (which, being in a little village, had 2 rooms). My mother's mother, Violet (Eaton) Sees, had also taught in the LaVaca school--that would have been in the early 1920's or before. When my mom taught there, people still remembered her mother and talked about what a good teacher she had been.
