New
London's first Town Library was established in April of 1897 in the Grange Hall,
operating budget of $100.00 a year. Then in 1907 his library moved into
the newly built Colby Hill School on the site of the Town parking lot. |
The Library's current building erected in 1823 was used as the first New London
Hospital and it was converted into a new Town Library opening in 1926. |
The
Tracy Library has been greatly changed. Building additions have been made. Now
the Library has many sections including the New Hampshire room, a very
pleasant place for genealogical research. There you will find the three
volumes on New London History and many volumes and materials on New Hampshire
and Merrimack County.
|
In 1996 the Library became fully automated enabling the staff
to provide more efficient service as well as giving the public increased
access to information. |
Open to all, the "Friends" organization is a non-profit group
dedicating to supporting the Library in many ways. All residents are
eligible to borrow books. Non-residents can borrow from the Library upon paying
an annual fee. |
Use
of the collection within the building is free and accessible to all.
The staff is always happy to help with on-line searching and the use
of the reference collection.
