THE NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE LIBRARY
Houses approximately 2400 titles of published family histories for New Hampshire and New England. This collection is enhanced by the unique name index to early town records on microfilm (sometimes referred to as the "Sargent" Name Index). The town records, ranging in years for each town but falling roughly between the years 1640 to 1830/40, can provide birth, death, and marriage dates, as well as listings of such items as tax inventories. Dover Public Library - Historical Room

The Library's local history and genealogy collection is located on our top floor. The Historical Room houses over 6000 books, pamphlets, maps, and photographs covering not only Dover, but also the entire state of New Hampshire, southern Maine, and northern Massachusetts. These items provide a wealth of information about old Dover history and regional families beginning in 1623. Dover newspapers as far back as 1823 are available on microfilm. This collection is ranked as one of the top four historical inventories in New Hampshire.

Exeter's Special Collections Room has a vast amount of information for the Genealogist & History Buff. Although it does not have an online catalog to reference yet it is a collection that cannot be missed. Included in their collection is the Provincial Papers, NE Historical & Genealogical Volumes and significant family histories that cover the state. Around the corner from the Library is the Exeter Historical Society and is open on Saturdays after the Library closes.
