Company I participated in the siege of Port Hudson from May 27-July 9 , with assaults on May 27 and June 14. Records show I on the line thru June -fatigue duty , intrenching  and working under fire , expending  8,560 ball cartridges May 27 - July 8. When Port Hudson surrendered on July 9 , they moved to Concord N.H. July 26-Aug. 8, traveling up the Mississippi on the steamer "City of Madison" , then by train from Chicago to Concord , and were mustered out Aug. 13 , 1863. The 15th lost 27 killed and 134 died from disease. They lost  86 on the return home. (Compiled from Charles McGregor's "History of the Fifteenth Regiment New Hampshire Volunteers 1862-63")
