OBITUARY  - Submitted by Frank Devlin - Hatboro, PA

Catherine Burke

Died Sunday Jan. 11, Catherine Burke, wife of Michael Burke,  at her home in Belfast after an illness of nine weeks, during which she became greatly weakened.

Mrs. Burke was born in the village of Belfast February 11, 1850, the daughter of Marcus and Mary Costello. She was united in marriage to Michael Burke September 14, 1870 at the catholic church in Belmont, Father Liddy officiating.

To this union were born seven sons and two daughters, all of whom survive but Marcus and Willia, who died in early infancy. The five sons, Charles, George, Alfred, Harry and Leo and both daughters, Jane and Nora, were at their mother's bedside with their father when the end came.

The funeral and burial services were conducted by Rev. B. A. Crane at St. Patrick's church, Belfast, Wednesday Jan. 14th, and the large attendance of friends, neighbors and relatives clearly showed the great esteem and affection with which she was regarded by everyone who knew her. Aunt Kate, by her great kindness and friendly intrest (sic) in everyone, made herself a very wide circle of friends, by all of whom she will be missed.

The funeral was attended by all local relatives and from out of town by: Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Burke and Mr. and Mrs. D. P. McGill, Buffalo, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wylie and daughter Winifred , Port Allegany, Pa., Mrs. Cecil Little, East Aurora, Mrs. Bert Sprague and Mrs. Margaret Burke, Olean, Mr. and Mrs. John Crowley, James O'Brien, and Mrs. Thomas Quinn, Elicottville, Drs. Thomas and John and Miss Pauline Burke of Elmira, Dr. Alfred Coughlin, Athens, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Costello, Mr. and Mrs. William Costello, and Mrs. Walter Deery, Wellsville, Mrs. James Rafter and James Kane, Belmont, Mr. and Mrs Fred Little and son Andrew and daughter, Mrs. Erwin Davis, Cuba.

                                    Card of Thanks
