Olean Times Herald, Monday, November 21, 1938:

August Gustafson died suddenly at his home in Gleason Hollow [Portville, Cattaraugus County, New York] on Saturday evening.  He was born October 8, 1872 in Sweden.  He was a resident of Portville for thirteen years, coming here from Clarksville.  Besides his wife, Anna Tors Gustafson, he is survived by two sons, Irwin at home and Edward of Duke Center, Pa, three daughters, Mrs. Lamur [Lemur] Ferrington of Obi, Mrs. Howard Brooks of Portville and Mrs. Howard DeGroff of Portville, and five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Marie Iswason [Isaacson] of Jamestown, N.Y., Mrs. Anna Shablon [Shablom] of Wellsboro, Pa.  The funeral services will be held at the home on Wednesday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock.  The Rev Homer C. Evans of the Methodist Episcopal Church will officiate and the interment will be in West Clarksville Cemetery.
